Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 6, 2004 So, over all, how would you grade GM Kurt Angle? I'd say that basically they did one of the only things they could have done with him (The others being manager and announcer) and the character is pretty good as the smilin' evil GM. OldSchoolWrestling 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I might like it if they didn't recycle the evil gm/owner/commisioner/director of authority/board member so damn often. I would prefer him to run a stable of wrestlers instead.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I liked Heyman better. If Kurt couldn't wrestle, I'd rather have him as a manager than a GM.
dubq 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I still would rather have Teddy Long in this position. What's the point of having Long as a manager if they're setting up Heyman to come back as the mega heel stable manager? Ideally, I would've said give Long the GM spot and Kurt an interview segment a la the Highlight Reel. Vice versa could work as well..
haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 He's doing alright as GM. I'd like to see more comedy in that roll.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 They should have put Angle with Haas to recreate the Team Angle vibe, but to give Haas the rub he needs to move up the card. Even if he wound up in GM Kurt's pocket, he'd just look like another "Evil GM Flunky" rather than anything special.

Invictus 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Somewhat off-topic, but is Kurt retiring as a wrestler? No, I think they're just giving him time off for now, and when he does start wrestling again it'll be a more reduced schedule. Like maybe a couple tv matches here and there and PPV matches. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Somewhat off-topic, but is Kurt retiring as a wrestler? I have a feeling they're gonna have him pull a "If you want something done right..." deal and win the belt at SurSer after months of lining up challengers for Eddie. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 At this rate I don't think Smackdown can hold out that long. I'd say Summerslam, but that just might be wishful thinking. I'm DREADING a prolonged Bradshaw/Eddie feud.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I'm so sick and tired of evil GM figures that it's hard for me to even pay attention to them ... I'd have had Angle replace Tazz in the broadcast booth, and then sent Tazz to Raw to replace Lawler. Maybe give Lawler a "King's Court" interview segment on Smackdown, or Heat or one of the other weekend shows that I don't bother to watch. Or just fire him outright. One of the two. Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Bradshaw for April, Big Show for May, Booker for Summerslam (Run a tag match at Vengeance) Haas for No Mercy. What about the Smackdown PPV in June? I still can't believe that WWE is going to book two Smackdown PPV's two weeks from each other.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Bradshaw for April, Big Show for May, Booker for Summerslam (Run a tag match at Vengeance) Haas for No Mercy. While they haven't had the greatest matches in the past, Eddie as the underdog in a Big Show feud (with the blowoff being some type of stipulation match to make up for Show's inabilities) could be shockingly good. Show has come a long way, so I'd be for it. They should run with an angle similar with what I suggested to Haas/Kurt, and once Eddie beats him, THEN Kurt should step back into the ring. I'd also settle for face/face RVD vs. Eddie.

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I'd give him a C/C- probably. He's doing ok but it's overly original or anything. I think William Regal should've been picked as the Smackdown GM. While he might be doing the evil GM deal he at least was different.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I can't get used to Angle as GM. Not least evil GM. I'm not sure why, I just don't like him in the role. Maybe it's not suited to him. His segments don't seem as impassioned as usual, that's for sure. Still, it's only been a couple of weeks, so he'll still need to time settle in fully I guess. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I don't like him in the GM role. The heel GM needs to go, it's a very tired act. And that thing Vince said about GM's favoriing certain talent and whatnot...I was hoping that would happen, but after draft night I guess that was thrown out the window. Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I think he is doing OK. His in ring promos have been a little bland and too straight forward, However his backstage interaction with Booker T has been great IMO.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Smackdown in gerenal is sad to watch. So why make it sadder by finally proving, without a doubt, that Angle has lost his comedic touch?
justcoz 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 He's not good in this role. He's bland and boring. He doesn't seem comfortable. I'm tired of heel GM's as well but at least with Paul Heyman you had someone who could very effectively sell a storyline or match with his mic work. I think Heyman did a lot to get Cena and Eddie over as well. I think the Bischoff/Heyman GM era will go down as my favorite because for a moment you could suspend belief that they were both just paid actors and envision the heads of ECW and WCW going at it with their respective brands. The two of them made that draft lottery episode of RAW. I know Anglesault doesn't want to hear this but Kurt can't be serious in this role because in a non wrestling capacity he needs to be entertaining. It was fine when he was a competitor in the ring and you wanted him to be taken seriously as a main eventer. We need funny Kurt. I'm trying to think back to why in your opinion he was no longer funny after 2001. Could you give me some of the unfunny 2002/2003 moments so I know where you're coming from?
