Press Release: Details on WWE’s homecoming for Chris Benoit to Edmonton

EDMONTON, AB, April 7 /CNW/ - On Tuesday April 13, World Wrestling Entertainment's Monday Night RAW World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit, will be returning to his native Edmonton. Benoit earned his title winning the main event Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania® XX on March 14, which was the highest grossing Pay-Per-View event in WWE history and took place in front of a sold out crowd at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City.

 

Chris will be returning to Edmonton on Tuesday April 13 - arriving at the Edmonton International Airport (Arrivals level, South Terminal) at 1:00 pm. We're expecting that many of Chris' fans will turn out to welcome him home! In addition, Chris will be honoured by the Mayor of Edmonton, His Worship Bill Smith when he declares April 18 as "Chris Benoit Day" at Edmonton City Hall on Thursday April 15, 12:00 p.m. We invite all media, proud Edmontonians and WWE fans to participate in this event! Mayor Bill Smith says: "Excitement is building for Chris Benoit Day, as local wrestling fans prepare to welcome their home town hero for Backlash® on April 18. It will be a great time in Edmonton."

 

Chris Benoit will be participating in WWE's Pay-Per-View Event, Backlash, which is taking place at Rexall Place on Sunday, April 18, at 5:45 pm. At Backlash, he will be defending his Championship in a Final Encounter Triple Threat match against former champ Triple H and the indomitable Shawn Michaels. Other key matches include: Mick Foley vs. Randy Orton for the Intercontinental Championship, Chris Jericho vs. Christian, and Edge vs. Kane.

 

Backlash is the first WWE Pay-Per-Event to ever take place in Edmonton. This is the first WWE Pay-Per-View event since last month's exceptionally successful WrestleMania XX and subsequent roster lottery draft. New alliances and rivalries are now being formed, which promises to make Backlash a worthy follow-up the WrestleMania XX!

Ouch is right but I'm resting easy knowing there's no way Benoit's going to lose unless of course something totally unexpected happens. In some ways it's a nice feeling.

 

But next year schools, stores, banks, the mail and whatever else will have to be all shut down in celebration of Chris Benoit day so you'll get your day off then. We do have to keep the gyms open in honour of Benoit though.

I hear ya but I'm going out on a limb here and saying Benoit's winning. There are just too many common sense factors going into the match. I'm as sure here as I was of Hogan beating Flair back in 94.

 

And it's Benoit Day for crying out loud. We can't start out on what's sure to be the most memorable day of humankind on a sour note. We need a victory to support the morale of all the masses out there. We need a victory so we can tell our grandchildren stories about that magical day when all of humanity lovingly came together on that one special day. Yeah, but right now I'm really, really sure which is much more of a sure bet than just plain old seen it before boring sure. I don't know if I ever got up to sure before this month though. It was always more of a hopeful feel than a sure feel.
