Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Found this on Lords of Pain site: Press Release: Details on WWE’s homecoming for Chris Benoit to Edmonton Submitted by Richard Gray on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 11:16 AM EST EDMONTON, AB, April 7 /CNW/ - On Tuesday April 13, World Wrestling Entertainment's Monday Night RAW World Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit, will be returning to his native Edmonton. Benoit earned his title winning the main event Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania® XX on March 14, which was the highest grossing Pay-Per-View event in WWE history and took place in front of a sold out crowd at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City. Chris will be returning to Edmonton on Tuesday April 13 - arriving at the Edmonton International Airport (Arrivals level, South Terminal) at 1:00 pm. We're expecting that many of Chris' fans will turn out to welcome him home! In addition, Chris will be honoured by the Mayor of Edmonton, His Worship Bill Smith when he declares April 18 as "Chris Benoit Day" at Edmonton City Hall on Thursday April 15, 12:00 p.m. We invite all media, proud Edmontonians and WWE fans to participate in this event! Mayor Bill Smith says: "Excitement is building for Chris Benoit Day, as local wrestling fans prepare to welcome their home town hero for Backlash® on April 18. It will be a great time in Edmonton." Chris Benoit will be participating in WWE's Pay-Per-View Event, Backlash, which is taking place at Rexall Place on Sunday, April 18, at 5:45 pm. At Backlash, he will be defending his Championship in a Final Encounter Triple Threat match against former champ Triple H and the indomitable Shawn Michaels. Other key matches include: Mick Foley vs. Randy Orton for the Intercontinental Championship, Chris Jericho vs. Christian, and Edge vs. Kane. Backlash is the first WWE Pay-Per-Event to ever take place in Edmonton. This is the first WWE Pay-Per-View event since last month's exceptionally successful WrestleMania XX and subsequent roster lottery draft. New alliances and rivalries are now being formed, which promises to make Backlash a worthy follow-up the WrestleMania XX! You can catch all the excitement as Benoit defends his title, live at Backlash at Edmonton's Rexall Place, Sunday April 18, beginning at 5:45 pm. Tickets are still available at the Box Office, from www.ticketmaster.ca and area TicketMaster outlets, or Charge By Phone at 780-451-8000. Escape The Rules with Monday Night RAW Live on Monday from Calgary, Alberta, at 9:00 pm on TSN. Tickets for RAW are still available at all TicketMaster outlets and at the Saddledome Box Office. Charge By Phone at 403-777-0000. Order on-line at www.ticketmaster.ca. WP -- Well in spirit every day is Chris Benoit day but nothing like making it official! Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Yes, I just posted that on The Shooters. It's great that Chris Benoit is getting a day dedicated to his hometown return - but could this make it seem just a little as if he is a charity case, being that he has finally gotten what he has deserved for a long time? Anyway, congratulations Chris. And how clever it is for them to shill Backlash in there aswell.

Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Every day is Chris Benoit day on TSM.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 8, 2004 No, they've changed his hometown announcement back to Edmonton, Alberta - which would be corny if the purpose wasn't covered as "the message has been put across." Every day is indeed Chris Benoit day on TSM - a place where he is truly appreciated. And I've been meaning to watch Chris Benoit VS Eddy Guerrero in the finals of the U.S. Championship tourney from Vengeance '03 again, which I'll do very soon. Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 8, 2004 No, they've changed his hometown announcement back to Edmonton, Alberta - which would be corny if the purpose wasn't covered as "the message has been put across." If you saw RAW, Lillian said "Now residing from Atlanta, GA, blah blah blah Chris Benoit!"
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Right now on Fox 8 is that 'Smack Your TV' commercial for SmackDown! where that guys girlfriend has met someone else, and the Big Show appears, for some reason. Nevertheless, ladies and gentleman, back to business... Hey, I was going to go into announcer mode anyway. BBCW, I'll fill in the blanks for you: "weighing in at two hundred and twenty-nine peewnds" Speaking of Lillian Garcia... "You Just Don't Know Me At All"? What's that? That she has a crush on Rob Van Dam, Shawn Michaels and just about every single other over face on the Raw roster? (Including Trish Stratus? ) I don't know... Ignore me. (Just let my guard down)
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Chris Benoit Day? Hmm...good publicity I guess. Let's hope he gets a better reaction than he did on his Raw return in Edmonton. I still for sorry for him after the minimal responce they gave him.

I still for sorry for him after the minimal responce they gave him. It's only a matter of time... ... Before a wholesome, suburban Edmonton family... ... Is living in... ... Benoit Street... Cue the "Da, Da, Daaaaa..." Yeah, anyway, KC, you would be referring the Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship between Rob Van Dam and Eddy Guerrero, building for Judgment Day back in 2002 when a fan ran in and knocked the ladder over while Guerrero was on it? Ah, yes.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 8, 2004 Kobe Bryant married Vanessa Laine on April 18th, and John Farnham married Jillian Billman. Conan O'Brien, Melissa Joan Hart and James Woods were also born on that day. It looks like the party has been crashed.

Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted April 8, 2004 It's good that Benoit is getting this kind of treatment. Although, I left my hometown for like three weeks, and I didn't get any holiday named after me or anythingwhen I returned, but then again, Benoit owns me. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted April 9, 2004 Let's hope he gets a better reaction than he did on his Raw return in Edmonton. I still for sorry for him after the minimal responce they gave him. On my TV, the place exploded when he came out. Maybe your audio wasn't turned up high enough. The pop was surreal and put goosebumps on my arms. I believe King Cucaracha was being sarcatic. Now, how do we celebrate Chris Benoit day? Maybe we can all start off breakfast with a couple of whey protein shakes. Than we work out. Afterwards, we spend the day watching Benoit and Dynamite tapes or we can all go around german suplexing and headbutting each other. Stranger meets another stranger on the street: Stranger A -- "Hey man, Happy Chris Benoit day!" Stranger B -- "Likewise, there's nothing better than Chris Benoit day." Stranger B goes behing stranger A and german suplexes him breaking stranger A's neck on the sidewalk. Stranger A -- "Oh yeah, there truly isn't anything better than Chris Benoit day." Stranger B is a little surprised at the smile coming out from stranger A's mouth but is comforted when A tells him it's the ultimate compliment to have your neck broken since it's the best way possable to emulate everyone's hero. And thus, the first of the many traditions of Chris Benoit day are born.
CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 Damn! It's a Sunday, isn't it? No excuse to take the day off school then... Oh, and wouldn't it just be great if Benoit lost on his day in his hometown? Ouch.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted April 9, 2004 Damn! It's a Sunday, isn't it? No excuse to take the day off school then... Oh, and wouldn't it just be great if Benoit lost on his day in his hometown? Ouch. Ouch is right but I'm resting easy knowing there's no way Benoit's going to lose unless of course something totally unexpected happens. In some ways it's a nice feeling. But next year schools, stores, banks, the mail and whatever else will have to be all shut down in celebration of Chris Benoit day so you'll get your day off then. We do have to keep the gyms open in honour of Benoit though.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 Yeah, cause it's not like on the past 2 occasions that the WWE has ran shows in Edmonton with Benoit on them that they totally screwed him over. ...

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2004 Are we talking about the same company that has changed the Canadians place-of-origin? The company that continues to do the montreal finish? The company that had Jericho and Shawn Michaels talking about Montreal only the have uberface Jericho turn back to a heel? Not saying it's happening, but shit, *shakes 8 ball*, "all signs.." I hear ya but I'm going out on a limb here and saying Benoit's winning. There are just too many common sense factors going into the match. I'm as sure here as I was of Hogan beating Flair back in 94. And it's Benoit Day for crying out loud. We can't start out on what's sure to be the most memorable day of humankind on a sour note. We need a victory to support the morale of all the masses out there. We need a victory so we can tell our grandchildren stories about that magical day when all of humanity lovingly came together on that one special day. We need a victory -- Eh, we just need a victory. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted April 9, 2004 I'm pretty sure I said the same thing about Benoits return back in 02. Yeah, but right now I'm really, really sure which is much more of a sure bet than just plain old seen it before boring sure. I don't know if I ever got up to sure before this month though. It was always more of a hopeful feel than a sure feel.
