BEST WORKER EVER~! For those of you spouting "potential". What do you expect Dupree to become in 5 years? The next Benoit? The next Flair? The next HBK? The next Rock? The next Austin? How in gods name do you see him becoming anything better than he already is? Does he show it at all in the ring? Or are you basing this on the "well, the rock wasn't very good before and now he's a mega superstar" which is basically shoving your finger up your ass and taking a stab in the dark cause you got NOTHING. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 heh to make this even more pointless I emailed the WWE with the suggestion to hire Rick Martel as a manager to Rene Dupree
Guest JMA Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Fuck, there are so many whores around here, no standards at all, you'll cheer anyone; they don't even have to deserve it. How exactly are people who like Dupree being "whores"? No one is saying Dupree is a great worker. The guy just entertains SOME people here. And just because some people like him does NOT mean they have low standards. I believe you've said you're a Bradshaw fan. Are you going to say he's a good worker? RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Bradshaw cuts a very good promo and does certain things in the ring that I enjoy - stiffness, for example. There are quality features that I can describe which make bradshaw appealing that are actually based on wrestling. Of course, you won't see me making "bradshaw, where is the love" posts because I certainly know his limitations. Is Bradshaw a good worker? No. Good workers have good matches at regular intervals, Bradshaw doesn't. Much like Albert, who I also like but will admit is not a "good" wrestler, Bradshaw a higher-end bad wrestler. Albert vs. Bradshaw from about a month ago was better than any Rene Dupree match that I've seen.
Guest JMA Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Dupree may be bland to some, but I'd be willing to bet that he has more in-ring psychology than Bradshaw does. Especially with selling. Which, when you think about it, isn't a good reflection on Bradshaw. Bradshaw's character and stiffness are good, but there are plenty of people more deserving of a push than him. Dupree's in-ring abilities, while not great, aren't as bad as you're making them out to be. The office is high on him and wants to push him higher up the card. He's not ready for it yet (not by a long shot) but he's doing his best. Show me one wrestler who would turn down a push like because of a lack of confidence in their OWN abilities. You've basically just stated that you feel it is okay to like a wrestler even if they are not workrate gods inside the ring. Based on that, why would you refer to the people who like Dupree as "whores"? I don't think they like the guy because it's the "in" thing to do. He entertains them. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Dupree hasn't done anything (ANYTHING) to warrant appreciation. Even in the little things. He is the typical OVW wrestler who does the hiptoss, dropkick, bump and that's IT. He has shown nothing distinctive; he can be traded for Jindrak, Cade, Conway and there wouldn't be a difference because they all wrestle the same. Everything about him feels manufactured; from his tan to his hair to his wrestling. Nothing about him is natural; never do I get the feeling that he is a wrestler and that he is out there to win the match. He isn't "bland to some" he is BLAND. There is no reason for me to like him. Where did I talk about deserving of a push? Where did I talk about selling? Where are you getting all this from? I make mention of people being whores because it's true. A year ago when Cena busted out a lot of people were on his jock for no legitimate reason. They just liked the image. This is the same thing, cept Dupree isn't as smart as Cena is in marketing himself. And when you're a "lesser Cena", that's not a good thing. The Dupree love is based on IMAGE; it's nothing of substance, it's not because of what he does in the ring, it's because of substandards and very little appreciation for actual skill. They are whores because they will open their legs to and for anyone.

Clearly that World tag title win back when was definately unwarrented. I remember making the CAWS for SD4 of La Resistance with the TNM for the moveset and there was like 5 moves for both Rene and Syvian...I had to watch Raw just to write down whatever moves they did do... Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 12, 2004 WWE really haven't had a lot of choice lately but to give the La Resistance and Doug and Damaja their respective Tag Team Championship, which really is sad. On the Bashams, they are not ready for WWE, in my opinion. And, finally, I do have faith in Rene Dupree as a Singles star - And you know what? If they ease up on the gimmick, he could be the next John Cena, I kid you not.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Dupree is solid in the ring and should be really good once he gets a few years under his belt. I think it's clear he loves the business and will give it his all. Once he loses the French gimmick, he could be the next "Model." I mark out for the "YES, I AM A MODEL" button. I agree. I can see him putting on a shiny, black leather jacket, slicking his hair back, and going the Rick Martel route. After all, he also does have that cockiness. Dupree did get THE DANCE~! from Rick Martel. And he changed his tights since coming over to Smackdown to pink, Martel-esque ones. Maybe WWE can even get Martel back as a manager... I'm quite fond of this notion.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Sheesh, what's everyone's problem. Dumb gimmick + dumb looking dog + guy who can hardly talk English = one of the more entertaining things on Smackdown. It's light relief. It's not like we're saying we think he's wrestler of the year, or even saying we think his wrestling style isn't bland. It is. But he has a stupid gimmick which people can laugh at...which is a reaction, something which most of the Smackdown shows aren't getting from most smarks now except 'wow, crap show'. No different from laughing at Funaki's skit. We're not laughing at Funaki because he put on solid to great matches in Michinoku Pro a few years ago. We're laughing because it's a stupid gimmick, which isn't supposed to be taken so seriously.

But if he's not wreslter of the year, he's not at all entertaining! OMG he must be able to be the bestest wrestler of all, he must be worthless! WORTHLESSSS! Heat doesn't matter! Personality doesn't matter! ARMBARS! PEOPLE DEMAND THEM and you = LOOOOOW standards! LOOOOOOW! Only enjoy Benoit damn you. DAMN YOU! But he has a stupid gimmick which people can laugh at...which is a reaction, something which most of the Smackdown shows aren't getting from most smarks now except 'wow, crap show'. Of course... Dupree is a heat machine. Cheap heat or not, people want to boo him and want to see him get beat up. Which is fine considering that has been whats he's been booked to do for months now. The guy hasn't really been in a big singles match yet in order to tell if he can keep a match going for ten minutes or not. He'll probably flounder at first, but thats to be expected. Now I know some people would rather send people to OVW until they can pump out 5 star matches in their sleep. But I like being able to watch people develop so its fun for me. Of course, OMG LOWSTANDARDS2004.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 It is low standards Goodear. People like him for everything but his wrestling. That's pathetic. *Big Laugh* @ "watch people develop". You don't develop in the WWE, you devolve. And Dupree can't get any lower than he already is. He is a sack of shit wrapped in a robe.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 12, 2004 I've always told you that wresling isn't the only priority that some people have. I submitt this thread as proof. I just find Dupree to have an entertaining gimmick with some nice developing charisma added. Those qualities are seemingly harder to find in today's wrestling climate than good wrestlers (since the indys are fill up with good workers with little personality). Oh and I enjoyed watching Brock, Cena, Shelton, Haas, Conway and Orton get better and smarter with their as time goes by. Compared to how they came in, all of them have improved in what I am looking for with workers which is admittedly not flashy offense.

Compared to how they came in, all of them have improved in what I am looking for with workers which is admittedly not flashy offense. Good point about Cena and Brock. When Brock first came in, he was almost a generic power wrestler. The crowds didn't really react to him. Then he started to get more and more heat after he.......um he did something to do that but I forgot what it was. When Cena first came in, he was bland babyface who yelled a lot in his promos. He slowly evolved into the WordLife guy we have today and now he's over like Rover.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 The only time Cena ever showed real improvement was against Benoit in their #1 contenders match and that was because of his selling. That was the day Cena said to me that he had something of value. See that? He earned it. I didn't just jump up and down because of his promos or his look. I still think he's a pretty poor wrestler, but his performance that night in selling the arm showed me something. Dupree just has the dance. Brock was interesting from day 1 with his amazing strength and Benjamin showed great in-ring athletic ability. Dupree just has the dance. Haas, Conway, and Orton are still incredibly vanilla in the ring, however. The only time Orton showed some exciting ability was against Kidman on an episode of Velocity. Dupree just has the dance. Dupree isn't in the indies, he is in the WWE, where "charisma" isn't exactly a selling point any more since a fair amount of wrestlers have it. Again, he's a "lesser Cena". Like Batista is a "lesser Brock".
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Cena between his first match with Angle and now is like night and day. He's a much better seller, has a much better sense of timing his comebacks, and found a character that gets a great reaction. This is what I'm looking for. Brock came in and didn't know how to put his tools together. It wasn't until the Big Show series (to me) that be started to know when to use that strength in a scary way that helped him get more and more over. His selling and bumping got better and better over the two years he was around. Bejamin and Haas learned how to use their holds more effectively and interestingly after a few months. At first they had the tendancy to sit in holds a bit too much and didn't quite know how to string it all together. They do now and we're going to see if Shelton can transition into a face since so many people can't do both. Improvements... yep.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 It is low standards Goodear. People like him for everything but his wrestling. That's pathetic. That's because a) The WWE isn't, and never has been all about wrestling. When that becomes the case, I'll hate Dupree. But it ain't gonna happen. And b) If we want to watch good wrestling, we have the Benoits and Eddies. Again, until the WWE becomes all about wrestling, it's not really a problem to me. Again, he's a "lesser Cena". Like Batista is a "lesser Brock". You could use that all you want. Some people might say Benoit is a "lesser Dynamite Kid". Or Owen was a "lesser Bret". Christian is a "lesser Edge". People still enjoy/enjoyed watching those three though, so it really isn't a valid arguement. It's like the saying goes... "No matter how good you are, there's always someone better than you." Vyce 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 I have to totally agree with RRR. Dupree's amusing, but I have absolutely NO idea why he's getting the love that he is, and he shouldn't be anywhere near a upper mid-card feud at this point, lack of Smackdown heels or not. JMA - is this another one of those French things? Is that why you're a Dupree mark?
Guest JMA Report post Posted April 12, 2004 JMA - is this another one of those French things? Is that why you're a Dupree mark? No. I just think the guy's entertaining. He reminds me of a young Rick Martel. Dupree's gimmick, while amusing at times, isn't really that good. That's not really the reason I like him. I can't explain it well.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted April 12, 2004 If he's going to stay French, he should have a Napoleon gimmick. Dupree should change his music to the French National Anthem(The best anthem in the world!). He should be an excellent wrestler, and beat everyone. He will then get followers and form a stable. Then he will stage a coup d'etat over the government of Smackdown(Kurt Angle). Now, that will make Rene' an uber Face.
Toxxic 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 On the Bashams, they are not ready for WWE, in my opinion. Maybe not as a tag team. But you check out the Doug Basham vs Paul London match on the last Velocity and tell me he ain't ready to work a singles match. Cos that match was better than anythign Smackdown's had for a while. And I know Paul London was in it. But Basham had some good technical wrestling going on.

They do nothing for me as the not-so-identical twin brothers. Hell, they could've hired the Shane Twins if they wanted that.
