Pearl Jam Live Bootleg CD

Recommended Posts

I am loving these live bootlegs, and as great as they are, they seem to be a double bladed sword. I only own the Chicago Show on Oct. 9,2000 and also the NY Pack with the July 8th and 9th shows.

Anyway, I loved the first bootlegs so i bought the NY ones. While I like the NY ones almost as much, I dunno whether to be pissed or to derive GREAT pleasure from "Yellow Ledbetter" and the condition Eddie's in. Is he drunk or is he just...."tired"???!?! I mean i honestly tried to listen to part of the lyrics in YL and jeez, he mumbles out of CONTROL on some of them. Although pretty much crazy shit, I really enjoy these bootlegs, and I think they add alot, and are, in a way, just as good, if not better than the studio recordings. I don't know really, but I do enjoy them.

If you own any, what shows do you own, and also what do you think of them?

I own the July 9 New York Show. Eddie's actually mumbled YL...or changed up the lyrics for quite some time- I dunno.....it's pretty bad on that show in paticuliar though- maybe tired....maybe drunk....maybe trying to seem like a drunk (or did he give that up)....maybe he forgot which words to make up.

I also have Show 3 from Mansfield, MA. The first disc is an acoustic set. They bust out "Mankind" later on.

And then a Milan, Italy show from 2000. Lots of Binaural stuff- and they play "Garden"...cool stuff. I love 'em....hope to get more, and wish more bands would do it (and change their setlists like PJ do)

I was at both of those New York shows and own the cds (as well as the DVD, which I would highly reccommend as 7/8/03 is one of their best shows of all time). To comment on your criticism of Yellow Ledbetter, that song has never had any words. Eddie Vedder always changes them every show and usually it is pretty mumbled. I actually think that the version from that particular show is one of the best from the 03 tour.

You are right, though. He was both tired and drunk by that point. He had finished his second bottle of wine during the second encore, and the band all said goodnight after Baba O'Riley was played. Mike McCready, the guitarist, stayed on stage though, not wanting the show to end, and started the opening riff to Ledbetter. The rest of the band came out from the back to join him. All of this is evidenced on the DVD.

Live in Verona 6/20/00

Live in Pittsburgh 9/5/00 ("Wash" gets played)

Live in Philadelphia 9/1/00 ("Breath" for the 1st time in a long time - Eddie forgot a lot of the words)

Live in Philadelphia 9/2/00

Live in Memphis 8/15/00 (cover "Can't Help Falling in Love")

Live in Lubbock 10/18/00 (cover "Everyday" by Buddy Holly)

Live in Las Vegas 10/22/00 ("Crown of Thorns" gets played)

Live in Seattle 11/6/00

Live in Boise 11/3/00

As well as a few "unofficial" ones (most notably their Easter Sunday radio show from 4/3/94).

I mostly shoot for concerts where they do cover songs, or bust out a lot of my personal faves, or get tremendous reviews. If I'm going to pop in a PJ cd, more often than not it'll be live stuff.

I dunno, it depends on what you're looking for. As I said, I usually look for cover songs, as well as setlists w/ my favorite songs.

Check here for setlists & reviews.

I personally like all/most of the ones that I have (there's a couple I thought looked good that didn't live up [Columbus 8/21/00 for one]).

Mansfield (7/11/03) is highly recommended (acoustic set, as well as full concert - they played every song they used on the tour up to that date).

EDIT: actually, it took all 3 Mansfield shows to perform all the songs from the tour, not just the last show.

Actually, I would check out www.fivehorizons.com if you want to pick a bootleg to buy. They have the most in depth concert chronology for Pearl Jam on the net. That is how I chose which bootlegs to buy at first when I was starting out (I now have all of them...I have a problem).

Of the top of my head, I would recommend:

2000 - Katowice 2 (my fav of the tour), Verona, Seattle 2, Chicago, San Diego

2003 - New York (both shows), Boston, State College, and if you can track them down since they are out of print, Vancouver and San Antonio
