I was worried when Earl Hebner came out - I mean, Michaels had the Sharpshooter on Benoit in his hometown to some TREMENDOUS heat, and look which referee just happens to arrive on the scene.

 

If Shawn Michaels was legitimately pissed off at the crowd, which I'm guessing that he was, that's understandable, but if he expected any different, he's an idiot.

Great show overall. Foley and Orton went all out, I was cringing at the sight of all the tacks imbedded in Ortons back. The main event was great, and even Coach vs Tajiri was surprisingly solid with the psychology of Coach working Tajiri's leg and all. The rest of the show wasn't terrible by any means, not great either, but entertaining still. Edge is DOA after his comeback in one of the most boring matches I've seen in a long time. Unless Smackdown does something crazy for their uyndercard, there's no way they can top this, especailly with the main event of Eddie vs Bradshaw which is just doing to kill the buyrate.

Ditto. both matches I'd rate around ***1/2 (OMG~! Orton with a good match), but **** is pushing it. The Main Event wasn't as good as WM (of course), and Cactus/Orton was very fun and got me jumping around all match. I NEVER thought Orton, Pussy of the WWE, would take the tumbtacks spot, so I remove the pussy from him.

The Foley/Orton match was in the **** range. ****1/2 seems a little high, but I wouldn't COMPLETELY disagree with it.

 

But ****3/4 for the Triple Threat? No way! It didn't come CLOSE to the match at Mania and didn't seem to click as well at all. It was a suitable Main Event, but won't even be considered in December as a Match-of-the-Year candidate. The Mania match will.....the Foley/Orton match MIGHT....I doubt Benoit/HBK/HHH at Backlash will be thought of much. The ****3/4 rating is crazy.

I'd say ***1/4 for the main event (1/2* better than the WMXX triple threat, which I'd know consider **3/4) and ** or so for Orton/Foley. I didn't really love Orton/Foley because they pretty much just traded weapon shots with no story told, but Orton sold like a fucking champ.

I thought Backlash was decent. By far, it's the best Raw PPV, even if that's not saying much.

I think that a lot of people didn't consider the main event WrestleMania quality was because it was WrestleMania and they went all-out.

 

The heat and the pops were great for Michaels and Benoit, respectively, but it wasn't WrestleMania quality. ****

 

With Jericho/Christian at 'Mania, it was a long feud, so WWE said that "This is personal, and it's going to be long."

 

Trish was used well here as a tool for the match, and the near falls and finisher counters by Jericho were exciting. I don't know if it was better than 'Mania or not. ***1/2

 

I don't think that Edge is going to SmackDown! - he just arrived here. The match was pretty lackluster. **3/4

Very enjoyable show overall. I'm too tired to type out full opinions but I enjoyed the main event, just not as much as WM, the hardcore match was great while Kane/Edge, Vitoria/Lita and HurriRosie/La Resistance were boring spots. So here are my quick ratings...

What's next for Chris Benoit? The main things are pretty much done in showmanship - WrestleMania XX and hometown victories.

 

And yes, just reread your post - I'd love a Jericho/Benoit program. Both of them as faces could work.

 

But they could turn Benoit, because he doesn't need the face pops at the moment, even though I'd like to see him face for a bit.
