Ruiz-Oquendo fight

Recommended Posts

Just got done reading the recap of the Ruiz-Oquendo title fight on ESPN.com.

Nice to see the MSG crowd give it the reception it deserves. Maybe this will motivate Don King to get off his ass and find some boxers people actually care about because in terms of quality and interest, the heavyweight division of boxing has reached a new low.

I honestly believe that if UFC holds it together and has a watershed-type event, it could overtake the entire sport of boxing as the most mainstream-preferred shootfight sport in the US.

What exactly was the chant in the sixth round?

I'm waiting for the spin from the boxing apologists at ESPN for this one. My bet is on them rightfully calling this a disaster, but comparing it to an MMA/pro-wrestling match.

I said it before, I'll say it again... John Ruiz is a bum.

That was the greatest recap of a boxing fight I have ever read.

As for the fighters, no one wants to see Fres Oquendo or John Ruiz at this point. Chris Byrd has looked bad his last two fights. I honestly don't get why Roy Jones is waiting at light heavyweight. Apart from maybe Vitali Klitschko, there's NO ONE in the heavyweight ranks on his level.

If he was the worst you've ever seen you must not have seen too many. There are guys with shit-tooth records who I bet couldn't outbox a fat girl. C'mon use your head now. But I would like to see this fight to see how bad it was. It sounds more like they were unconidtioned and winded early. Was that truly the case?

"I want to unify the title," Ruiz said. "I will fight anyone."

This is just awful. Awful for him anyway. If he goes into the muck with any real top fighter, he dies. Ruiz is possibly the worst heavyweight I've ever seen.

Jorge-Luiz-Gonzales......nuff said.

I agree with the previous poster. John Ruiz is the absolute worst. At least other bums get knocked flat and disappear. Ruiz has been shoved down our throats for eight years now, with exactly one win (Hasim Rahman) that can be considered praiseable.

John Ruiz is simply 'The Cockroach'. Most people don't like him, but he will not go away easily, he's not the biggest bum ever, because you still have numerous fighters who have held titles and crumbled. Hasim Rahman (who's apparently pregnant), for example.

Golota only got a title shot because he tied himself to Don King. He will get another one because Chris Byrd embassed himself.

and BoxRec rankings are a bit weirder now

Today:

1- Vitali

2- Joe Mesi

3- James Toney

4- Byrd

5- Juan Carlos Gomez

6- John Ruiz

7- Jameel McCline

8- Andrew Golota

9- Corrie Sanders

10- Lance Whitaker

Yesterday:

1- Chris Byrd

2- Vitali

3- Joe Mesi

4- James Toney

5- Juan Carlos Gomez

6- John Ruiz

7- Jameel McCline

8- Corrie Sanders

9- Andrew Golota

10- Lamon Brewster

And the other guy's on today's rankings

Wlad (#12, down from #11)

Nicolay Valuev (#14, up from #27)

Evander (#17, down from #16)

Moorer (#24)

Hasim Rahman (#27, up from #29)

Fres Oquendo (#28, down from #15)

No, no, no. John Ruiz never held a title. He holds a meaningless piece of tin that has no more prestege than the sash that came with my bathrobe.
