Styles 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 I thought of this before and posted it in a thread in HD, and figured I'd give a flyer here. I really don't care either way, I just thought it might be a way standarizing what threads are and aren't classic, beyond a mod's judgement. Basically if "X" number of posters think a thread deserves classic consideration (low number like 5) they can nominate it (say in the OAO Classic Nominations thread here in Site Feedback). Once a thread recieves the decided on number of nominations a mod would post a poll in Site Feedback, asking for users to vote whether a thread is classic or not (with a link to the nominated thread in the post). And voting would be open for a certain amount of time before closed (say a week). If Yes get's a certain percentage (60%? a little more a little less?) it will be locked and put in classics, if it doesn't, it is not a classic thread. Maybe this sounds like too much thinking, and if you guys don't like the idea, then whatever, it's just a thought I had as a solution to the "this thread should be classic" "no it shouldn't" "why is this thread in classics?" arguments that sometimes come up. There's the idea, good one?
Guest Dids Report post Posted April 19, 2004 It's a good thing that somebody proposed a solution to this burning problem that we were all facing. I will now be able sleep tonight.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Then Classics becomes cluttered when a small clique of posters nominates everything they do and nobody cares enough to go and vote 'no'.
ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 Then Classics becomes cluttered when a small clique of posters nominates everything they do and nobody cares enough to go and vote 'no'. This will happen more than people think. The voting system would only work if threads were nominated and then went to vote, AND it took about 80% of votes and a certain minimum amount of votes to let a thread become a classic. For instance, a thread is nominated by the nominating process, and it must get 50 votes for "yes," minimum, while gaining 75-80% of all votes as yes votes. Styles 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2004 ok, as I said, it was just an idea...
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2004 I don't get why people argue about threads being in the classic folder to begin with. Like it's really hindering their posting at this board.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2004 Then Classics becomes cluttered when a small clique of posters nominates everything they do and nobody cares enough to go and vote 'no'. That's not really such a bad thing, except for taking up space, as nobody is looking at the classic threads except those who were responsible for them, and then rarely. Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 20, 2004 I gotta disagree there IDRM, I have people ask me on AIM or PM "What the fuck is up with those weird gnome jokes" and I point them to classics and they read them and start worshiping me and Kinetic...it works for me. As far as a small clique nominating everything, on behalf of the supposed clique...BWAHHAHAHA. If you think we'd want ANY of the wrestling ones, the TSM party thread, or a bunch of others then you're delusional
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 21, 2004 You take far too much credit if you think I specifically meant you for the clique. I meant several small groups of posters who tend to post together on anything.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 21, 2004 I'm a member of several of said cliques according to most PBP's who show up that's all. and I've been apart of most of the classic threads. No egoism, just thought you were taking a shot. sorry.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Nope, no shot taken. Like say group A from the WWE folder basically worship the posts of Poster A. Then Posters B-G go and nominate everything they find funny but others could careless. Then people who specifically go to Music Folder or Videogames Folder don't bother checking in on site feedback because they come strictly to talk about their tastes, no regards to the actual forum. Then Group A gets like 4 threads into Classics before anybody even realises what's happening due to the voting system. However if they go with the idea presented of at least needing 50 yes votes and 80% of the total votes being yes it would be a good idea.
