BTW I agree with Hood. It's about damn time they threw the Southland Conference into the game. It's one of the best conferences in 1-AA and I've always wanted to take Sam Houston State into the big time. Plus the thought of selling kids on coming to SHSU ("Come to Huntsville and see the prison! We even have a mall too!") is funny.

 

I hope they make the recruiting more in depth too. After a couple of seasons that always ends up being my favorite part of the game. But once you hit 6* rating it kinda takes something away when you get a class of 24 kids and 21 of them are rated as 5* (that's happened to me a lot of times on '04) and you end up cutting a lot of them anyway. Make it more like the real thing where you can redshirt almost all of the freshmen and the cutdown to the 55 man roster comes AFTER the redshirting process. Gives a better flow to your system and doesn't render the entire recruiting process mostly meaningless.

 

Why does it have to be a 55 man roster BTW? This isn't the pros they can fudge a bit on the numbers. It sucks only having one backup guard because, since I run the Run-and-Shoot and West Coast offenses, I carry 6 or 7 WRs on the roster and 2 FBs who I hardly ever use. You oughta be able to cut who you want and not worry as much about positional requirements. If I want 2 speed RBs in the backfield who can't block worth a lick but can catch flares passes that should be the head coach's call.

My senior year, we played South Florida, and the coach was legit concerned in the newspaper article.

 

He referred to the SLC as the SEC of I-AA.

 

We lost that game 27-17 though

 

But we blocked the youngest Grammatica like twice in that game. That was cool. Martin and Bill's talent obviously didn't trickle down to the third one. (Santiago?)

 

 

Anyway, yeah SLC needs props in this years edition.

 

Especially since McNeese in Lake Charles, LA is traditionally in the top five anyway (spent most of last season as #1).

 

Most of the stadiums in SLC are pretty nice too. Pretty much most of them have pretty turf stadiums.

 

Sam Houston's stadium is gorgeous. Absolutley gorgeous.

 

 

I did hear a rumor around campus that EA called the coach or someone high in the athletic department about using the likeness and stuff, so I'm sure there's a good fighting chance SLC will be in there.

 

Although Nicholls's new president just removed the Colonel image as the mascot due to pressure from the school's NAACP chapter. That includes the sword through the N symbol, so I dunno if that'll affect anything or not.

Shit, the Home Field advantage mode sound fucking incredible. Though it could hurt me. I always have a dynasty with Ohio State, and I use hot routes and audibles like it's my fucking JOB, so playing up at the Big House could be burdensome to say the least. Either way, I'm still picking it up and will play it non-stop until Madden comes out, then I'll go back-and-forth between the two like I always do.

The Draft tomorrow and talking about this game has got me all hyped up to go back and play NCAA 2004. But I feel like changing everyone's name(i know it's a big job) so does anyone know where I can find a list of all of the College players and there numbers for last season?

While them full motion video movie things are funny sometimes when you first start the games, I wonder how much space they could free up by taking that out and putting something game related.

She was at the Red River Shootout and an EA camera crew made them do the "EA Sports! It's in the game!" thing.

Actually, way back in the day, Madden had this.

 

Back in '92, Madden didn't have the NFL or NFLPA licenses yet, so the league couldn't really say anything about the stuff in the game. Thus, you got awesome things like quarterbacks getting injured, leading to ambulances driving onto the field to get the hurt QBs, running other players over in the process. Also, there was the crowd-storms-the-field bit in the playoffs. In the first round, the home crowd would storm the field after a win. In the second round, they'd storm and shake the goalposts. If you won the championship, the crowd would storm the field, tear down the goalposts, and then fireworks would go off. It was tremendous.

Yeah I remember the ambulance. It was great to see the little players' legs kinda kicking in the air then the ambulance would come out, seemingly run the player over, then pick him up.

 

There's actually a short write up on NCAA in GamePro (just got it today). To wit:

There's also a couple of pictures, mainly a Gatorade bath about to take place and a couple of shots of WRs who can't hear the audibles waving their arms and putting their hands to their helmets. Target release date is July.

I hope there's more College Classics in this game, I really enjoyed that option last year. I'd also like if they had rotating conference schedules, it gets really boring playing the same teams in the conference schedule every year in dynasty mode.

Before now, EA Sports' NCAA series did a good job of representing the passion of college football. In 2005, however, the game is going to take sports- collegiate or pro- somewhere it's never been before. In an ode to the fierce rivalries throughout the land, the crowd can have a direct impact on the players on the field.

Whether it's the difficulty of a QB calling an audible over the deafening crowd noise, or the pressure or executing a winning forth quarter drive in an enemies' stadium, NCAA kick the intensity of football up a notch and many thousands of decibels. Also lists the release date as July 1, which is a Thursday. EA often release games on Thursday rather than the typical Tuesday, so that may be an accurate release date. Of it could get pushed back to the end of the month who knows.

Why do you put Oklahoma on that list Kotz?

I mean I'd think the only thing that'd make it a hard place to win is the team you're facing. We only get like super loud if it's a team that has beaten us the last season. Such as OSU this past season....you could not hear a GOD DAMN THING during that game because it was so fucking loud. I guess that "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!" during kickoffs would be annoying to. Unless of course you know something from seeing it on TV that I don't know. I get a different perception at the games.

 

Oh and.......A&M is one of the hardest places to win at. The fans are rabid and the way they all sway back and forth is disorienting. Plus the place echoes. It fucking echoes. And you can hear the people at the stadium up to 3 miles away supposedly. And the stadium shakes because of how loud it gets.

Yeah they have a fearsome place to play and crazy fans.....but there team sucks.

If you could have the talent that an Oklahoma or USC has and put it at A&M with the fans and stadium then they'd be pretty much unstoppable at home.

But they are shitty. Plus it's easy to take there fans out of the game. OSU went down there and whipped the hell out of them. Hell if OU repeats what they did last season to A&M this season there fans will all leave.

Now now Dam. I remember a few years ago when OU and A&M had a barn burner at Kyle Field. Went down to a goal line stand by OU to win IIRC. I could hear the crowd and I was a good mile away. That's loud.

 

As to recent teams, this past season has been the only really BAD team in a while. Not that it's any real defense, but:

 

A lot of freshman playing serious minutes

+ learning a new offensive scheme

+ switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3

+ playing in the hardest conference in college football

= really bad results

 

I'm willing to give Franchione another year or 2 to recruit his kind of players and run his scheme before I'm going to throw my hands up in the air and run around in circles.

 

As to the stadium, it a two tier stadium that they just recently enclosed (used to be open ended, but they threw in some fan zone and added some more seats) and increased the capacity to almost 83,000. You get most of those fans standing up and hunched over (called "Humping It") doing the cheers in unison, it gets loud. Then during the fight song and some of the cheers everyone puts their arms around each other's shoulders and rocks back and forth. It's enough to give you motion sickness. A 67% winning percentage at home shows that in can get in people's heads occassionally.

If K-State played in a decent stadium, I agree. However, I'm not sure how much noise they can make in a place that seats probably 35,000 tops.

 

Then again, I'm a bit biased here because Death Valley seats about 93,000 and the coliseum-like construction of the stadium helps the acoustics.
