Michrome 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 He does not have enough money to buy back the braves, something else he wants to do. He is no longer billionaire ted, Time Warner stock was worth crap when he sold it. Wrong. He's still worth well over a billion dollars, he just doesn't have as much as he once did. TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Turner has no national outlet to show the wrestling on. What is he going to do, put the show on his imagionary network. I hope none of you still think he is affiliated with Time Warner, if you do you are truly not smarks. He has no cable channels anymore, he has nothing. Since when has knowing what someone ones make you a smark? There are plenty of smarks who could've missed Turner retiring from TW/AOL. Many of whom probably started watching wrestling AFTER WCW. Anyhow, knowning Turner, if he wants something he'll get it. I'm pretty sure that if he though he needed a network to show it on, he'd either buy it or start a new one. He did start CNN, Headline News, TBS, TCM, and Turner South by himself. EDIT: I forgot Cartoon Network
The Buzz 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 DDP, Sting, Nash, Hall, Hogan, Goldberg, Austin are all big names out there right now. And the only one who can wrestle, Sting, probably won't want to work in a full time enviroment again. This could be cool, but I'd much rather see him invest money in a promotion like TNA. Hektik 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 It all depends on what Turner wants to do. He has enough resources that he could just get it on a network like FX (which is the channel TNA should be trying to get on, not FSN). In the years he owned WCW it was just a side venture. If he gets back in the wrestling buisness it will need his full attention. Meltzer made a good point when he said that most WWE fans are not wrestling fans, they're WWE fans. If a promotion wants to go national then they have to be like WWE. They need the production values and big arena shows. Turner is probably the only person involved in wrestling, with enough money and resources to do it. But he has to go all the way or not at all, because Vince has a real monopoly with the casual wrestling fans.
Guest Daddy X Report post Posted April 22, 2004 Frankly I could care less if the workrate for the promotion is horrible. I see at as big competition for WWE. As cocky as Vince wants to get with the whole "Rise and fall of WCW" story we're treated to, he definatly wouldn't like the idea of Turner getting back into the rasslin' business. Just the fact that Turner is taking a guys like Austin and Goldberg would be enough to get buys for a PPV. I realize that WWE wasn't doing this with these two but the fact that it's a whole new promotion would draw massive amounts of interest. Like I said the quality of matches might not be anything special, but with Turner's money they have the ability to be a threat. WWE would then have to step it up big time and the real winners would be all of the wrestling fans who right now are at the mercy of McMahon, as we have to take whatever he gives us. TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2004 I've read that he would try to get whatever promotion onto TBS. I just question the intelligence behind starting a promotion on a national level. WCW wasn't on a national level when he started putting it on TBS, and he made it one that way. But he had the NWA helping him out. Is it possible for Turner to start one from scratch? The Buzz 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2004 IMO if he can lure guys like DDP, Sting, Austin, and Goldberg into wrestling full time to get it started. Then yes it's more than possible for him to start from scratch. The latter three of that list were some of the top draws from 97-99. I can see Turner luring away a lot of NWA: TNA talent for the mid card. The big downfall in all of this is unless Turner decides to find people who know how to run a wrestling company this time around, he's going to fail in the end...again. Steviekick 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Even though Turner isn't an active member of his old Time Warner stations, I'm sure he sill has many friends that would hear him out.
