Nostalgia Trip: Super Star Wars Trilogy on SNES

Recommended Posts

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes

I suck at interoductions for the topics I start, so I'll just skip....or do some super abreviating. Anywho, I was playing some games on my SNES Emulator (damn my crooked ass!) and remembered a few games back in the day I loved. Super Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. But the sad thing was, I never got a chance to play the Original: Super Star Wars: No Sub-Title Needed.

For platformers (with the occasional first person/3D view parts), these games were just great, and had a nice change of difficulty to them, as well as the bosses. Sure, they weren't THAT close to the storylines, but they did their jobs right. Especially Return Of The Jedi, when you got to play as Wicket! Bustin' ass as a 3 foot care bear.

Anyway, this is a kind of vote/discuss thread, and was wondering...

1.) Favorite of the Series (Games, not movies)

2.) Favorite Scenes to play in/as.

3.) Hardest Boss Fight.

For me, I'd have to go with ROTJ. Empire is just WAY too tough sometimes, and the original didn't have a save system, plus the incredible difficulty of some bosses and the final scene. ROTJ has great scenes, backgrounds, and better feel to it. Plus the final part with the escape the core of the death star was great.

The fight in Jabba's Palace was pretty cool, with Bib Fortuna as the Boss, being a total prick of toughness, but I'd go with the Sail Barge (sp?) one which just looks awesome.

Hardest Boss would have to be in Empire Stirkes Back, as Han Solo against that flying ship that has this swinging spikes. took me about 20 tries to beat. I don't even remember the name. I'd also give the nod for Bib Fortuna in ROTJ, and in Star Wars the Storm Trooper ship with firing cannons everywhere. Still gotta beat the end though (Damn TIE Fighters!)

1.) Favorite of the Series (Games, not movies)

Empire Strikes Back - I had the most fun with that game. I have all 3 of these games, too.

2.) Favorite Scenes to play in/as.

Several stand out for me.

- Snowspeeder missions on Hoth in Empire

- Using Wicket in ROTJ

- X-Wing missions in the original

- Millennium Falcon missions in ROTJ

- Final battle against Darth Vader in Empire

- Final battle against the Emperor in ROTJ

- Han Solo's missions on Bespin/Cloud City

- X-Wing mission in Empire

These are all the ones that stand out for me, I'll add more as I can think of them.

3.) Hardest Boss Fight.

Gotta go with the fight with the Emperor in ROTJ. When he starts taking out the floor, it becomes harder to beat him as you have very little space to stand and fight.

Super Return of the Jedi - The most varied gameplay and the most characters. You also get big fights with Jabba, Vader & the Emperor. The most fun to play.

2.) Favorite Scenes to play in/as.

The ESB Vader fight. Although my favourite character to play as is Han Solo.

3.) Hardest Boss Fight.

Vader in ESB.

I didn't think he was too hard, of course, I only play it on Medium Difficult Level (Brave?) so that may be the factor. I don't think I've ever lost to him unless I accidentally leave the game unpaused and leave.

I was a fan of the first game, but they kinda lost me on Empire when they introduced the whole complicated Force system and it got a LOT harder. Never bothered playing ROTJ, since I assumed it would be more of the same.

My favorite moment: in the Death Star hangar in the original game, where charging stormtroopers will often as not run lemming-like over the edge into a pit. Me and my brother dubbed them the "suicide squad".

I found the "Force" system to be quite easy.

Just use the shoulder button(s) pick a force, if you have it, and use it.

Although, there were only two worthy of using, IMO.

Freeze and Heal, as IMO they were the most essential for survival.

If I recall correctly, one of the Game Gear games wasn't too shabby, either.

Was it Star Wars?

I remember that one being actually somewhat decent.

They never made ESB, and ROTJ I don't remember too much about.

It's the only one coming up on GameFAQs, so I believe that was it. No reviews are up for it, though. It was actually bought by my brother-in-law, but I was the one who ending it playing it more than him. While I wasn't as discriminating a gamer back then, I recall it being a blast to play and looking pretty darn good, to boot.

ROTJ

2.) Favorite Scenes to play in/as.

The one part with Luke where you're running through a forest just hacking StormTroopers left and right.

3.) Hardest Boss Fight.

They were too hard. I beat the first but gave up on Empire. Just impossible. Too many 16 bit era games are too hard.

They weren't that hard. They are certainly beatable, even within a rental period at the time. You just had to work at it. ESB is the hardest of the three, but it still isn't too bad. There are much harder games out there.

the only ESB levels that I found hard were when controlling Han Solo. Outside of his thermal detinators, he really had a weak pistol, especially in boss battles.

I'll take Lukes lightsaber and Chewies spinning...thing anyday.
