my computer doesn't post

Recommended Posts

Ok, I was sitting at my computer typing a paper when the monitor just turned off. I tried turning it back on and it was just going in standby. I tried other monitors, and it still didn't work. One odd thing i noticed is that when i turned off my tower the monitor came on. So I called Gateway and first they told me to take out my modem card (?) and then take out my ram and put it in the other slot. That didnt work, and then they said it was something with my video card, which i didn't know was intergrated with my motherboard until I opened up the case to do the shit they told me. My friend tried putting in a new video card in my AGP slot to see if it would override the default video card. That didn't work and I will have to send it to Gateway which will take about three weeks and I have to pay shipping which I don't want to do. Any ideas ?

Firstly, your monitor would have nothing to do with your computer POST-ing. (Power On Self Test) - and when your friend installed the new video card, did he disable the onboard in the Device Manager or did he just throw it in there. Otherwise, you would have both cards trying to run at the same time, which would create a conflict.

Well, I have no way of disabling with the device manager since I can't get any video on my computer and yes I know its not the monitor that is causing the problem but moreso that my dumbass bought a Gateway that is fucking up after 6 months.
