Details On New WWE Writer

Recommended Posts

Guest BillyTheStud

Dan Madigan has been hired as WWE's new writer. Madigan is in his 30s and has already written an entire movie script on the Kane character that WWE plans to turn into a movie. Some feel that Madigan is more competent then most of WWE's current writers.

Madigan titled the script CITIZEN KANE until he learned that title was taken, the film's current working title is THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.

I'll wait to see what sort of impact this new guy has on the quality of the programming before I start mocking him.

But if he screws up, I will mock him hard.

What do we have to do to get Kreski back?

What's he done since leaving anyways?

When/what was Kreski known for doing during his WWE tenure?

Booking HHH/Rock and telling them to have a good match.

It was a very successful strategy.

Apprently he wrote the Love Triangle and Most of the McMahon Helmsly Regime angle...

Some here didn't like it but it was WWE's highest peak ever...He was writing good enough stuff that casual fans ate it up...then he got tired of the politics and left and Stephanie/Gerwitz took over later that year and it went to hell.

Thanks for the recap on Kreski. I personally didn't like the Love Triangle / McMahone Helmsley Regime stuff, but I do recognize that a lot of people did like it.

exactly...He wasn't doing anything stupid...He took basic principles of storylines and let the wrestlers do the talking and the working...thus is why the first 8 months of 2000 is considered the greatest point in WWE history in all areas (draws, Match Quality etc)...

He didn't do anything boneheaded or offensive like Russo did and didn't go over the top like Stephanie and Gerwitz do...

But he didn't know wrestling which some didn't like...but he knew what worked and didn't work.

He also was one of the last writers that I've heard of (Kreski) that actually plotted out his ideas, and he kept them organized on a blackboard so he knew what to do with each one.

which is why the Love Triangle was so well written...He knew weeks ahead of time that he would have Angle Kiss Stephanie even when he did the skit with Trish with Angles Medals...

Remember that Angle was supposedly a "virgin" at least was implied during the TBS angle and thus never glanced at Trish when she was coming on to him...He had to have planned that Angle would fall in love with Stephanie months later...

I wish he and Cornette worked together.

Also along those lines, that big blackboard of his also kept the characters and each of their feuds straight, meaning that if a guy was specifically against someone, they wouldn't magically start working WITH them without a good explanation. Storylines, for the most part, were very tight under Kreski. What a shame he got fed up to the point where he wanted to leave.

At least the Raw writing crew seems to be back on the right track these days.

Maybe we'll finally get the OFFICIAL Kane story now. You know, one without all the retroactive continuity.

That being said, they've already humanized the character way too much for a horror movie.

Tell that to John Fawcett (Ginger Snaps), Wes Craven (do I need to reference?), George Romero (again, do I need to reference?), Peter Jackson (Dead Alive), Dan O'Bannon (Alien, Return Of The Living Dead)...should I continue?

We will have to see how this new Dan guy plays out...lets remember no one thought Kreski was capable of doing what he did to WWE for the 8 months he was there.....

BTW, I wonder what the WWE would be like today if Kreski did stay with the company and got a chance to work with the WCW angle...???

Kreski's storylines made sense and didn't cross over to the absurd --- and the comedy on the shows was actually funny. Angle, Edge, Christian, Commissioner Foley, and Head Cheese were all done under him and all were quite entertaining.

Let's leave it at this --- he left...right before Survivor Series 2000. I doubt he had Rikishi as the guy who hit Austin.

Can you pinpoint the moment the WWF dropped in quality?

Yeah but I'm sure he means for the most part. There are some legends in the genre no doubt, but most horror movies are really bad.

So does anyone know how much power this guy has? Is he just helping out or taking somebody's else place? Raw, Smackdown or both?

Kreski started with the company in late December/early January, but rumor has it the guy was hired 4 weeks or so after Russo left in October of 1999.

He was remove from the creative director position in September or October...The reason for this...I remember Stephanie mention in an interview once that she got the creative director job around October I think it was on Howard Stern where she mention that anways.....But Kreski finally quit the company around November 2000...

So looking at what Stephanie said and when he left...it looks like the guy was demoted from head writer to just a writer...

It's always going to be Vince and Stephanie's baby. They create the storylines and want the writers to make it happen.

I agree Mike it will always be like that....this has been going on for the last 3 and half years....nothing has changed...and it looks like their isn't going to be one any time soon.....Unless the company ratings plummet to a 1.5 rating, and the revenues start to come in negative..

They'd still blame somebody else.

I hate to be mean, but I don't think anybody has tanked as thoroughly as Steph has as head writer.

She's had YEARS and the writing STILL isn't up to 2000 levels.

I don't think anybody has had so many chances to fail --- and failed so admirably in all of them --- as she has.

Kreski actually used storyboards, paid attention to continuity--like a good TV writer should.

However, ironically WMX-7, possibly the best PPV WWF ever had, didn't come about under Kreski's watch. Although the big angle heading into it (Rock/Austin) was really stupid, and the end of the match and the aftermath sucked as well. In between the opening bell and the Vince run in, it was awesome, though.

Also, if this is him, why doesn't anything WWF appear on it?

No other Chris Kreski's are listed. *shrug* Then again, imdb is known to be missing info or be somewhat inaccurate.

Andrew remember this...Kreski did plan his storylines in advance...I'm sure they had copies of some old scripts and ideas he had planned for the future...but didn't implement them correctly(which i doubt that would use them anyway..but hey its always a possibility)

That being said.....X-7 was a great event but storyline wise or looking long term it didn't really establish anything...and plus WCW was just purchased before the event...so alot of hype surrounding that..

I would be curious to see where he was headed before he left...With Austin coming back and all...Likely he could have REALLY written a good logical storyline for the return and likely the Austin/HHH series would have been 10x as better with him behind it considering how well done the foley/hhh and hhh/rock programs were.

I would have looked forward to it..

Looking back at this...Kreski left around the time they were planning for the Austin return....I wonder if the politics began with the returning Austin ;)
