Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Does anyone know anything about this show? Sometime last week, I downloaded a cruiserweight match (Rey Mysterio Jr vs Dean Malenko) So, after having done that, I would like to know more about this show, if anyone else knows about it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Is that the infamous nWo Monday Nitro episode? Basically, the nWo tore down the Nitro set and replaced it with its own set, then put on probably the worst 90+ minutes of programming they'd ever done up to that point (although not quite as bad as 1999 levels). The idea was to see how well the nWo version of Nitro would do. It was so bad that Raw actually won the second head-to-head hour that night, leading to them changing the booking of Starrcade so that Larry Zbyszko had to go over Eric Bischoff. If that's not the episode in question, my apologies.

Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 I had an idea that it was an international show, as the clip of the Rey/Dean match was in a foreign language I wasn't familiar with. I just had no clue where it took place.

And how many of these "nWo Monday Nitro" episodes did they end up doing?
JST 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Just one, thankfully. I dunno, but 30 minutes of a crew putting up an nWo set while Rick Rude heckles them is NOT my ideal monday night viewing.

Didn't it bomb in the ratings when they did that? The whole nWo Nitro segment I mean.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Yep. I believe that was the deciding factor in Zbyszko going over at Starrcade ... or at least one of the factors.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Didn't Larry (not even gonna try to spell his last name) have a feud with Scott Hall the month after Starrcade? And wasn't that the match where Dusty ran in and joined the nWo by attacking Larry? Also, when did the nWo Wolfpac first form and why? I wasn't watching during this period, so I'm asking a billion and one questions about all of this.

And wasn't that the match where Dusty ran in and joined the nWo by attacking Larry? Zbyszko had been feuding with Hall since the fall. Because he beat Bischoff at Starrcade, he earned the match with Hall at Souled Out. And yes, that was when Dusty turned.

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted May 6, 2004 Also, when did the nWo Wolfpac first form and why? Can someone answer this one for me? If memory serves (and my memory on the arc of the nWo is sketchy), it formed over the split between Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan in 1998. But, lord, it's hard to actually keep track of that storyline. That and the Kane v UT storyline tend to be damned confusing. -=Mike
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2004 The Savage / Hogan rivalry did in part lead to the Wolfpac but Nash's relationship with Hogan I think played the bigger part. There was tension between the two off and on for over a year before Nash interfered in the Sting / Savage match at Spring Stampede, thus putting the belt on Savage and more or less slapping Hogan in the face. This was after Nash & Hogan beat Piper & Giant in a baseball bat match earlier in the night. The bat match and the build up played up the fact that Hogan and Nash couldn't trust one another. Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Some more stuff I've wondered relating to the nWo. How did the nWo get their name on the PPVs in 1998? How did the nWo get Souled Out 97 as their PPV?

Bischoff always planned for the nWo to become a seperate promotion (think of the RAW/SD split in the WWE today). They just couldn't do it and quickly killed it. -=Mike

JasonX 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Some more stuff I've wondered relating to the nWo. How did the nWo get their name on the PPVs in 1998? How did the nWo get Souled Out 97 as their PPV? The 1997 NWO Souled Out PPV was set up under the notion of the NWO having their own renegade PPV as a means to fuck with WCW since at the time the NWO held the bulk of the belts inside WCW.... IIRC the double-billing of the 1998 PPVs started up around the time that Bischoff was stripped storylinewise of the bulk of his power over WCW and JJ Dillon was introduced as the WCW Commissioner. The plot explaination was that Bischoff (who still had financial control over WCW) added the NWO to the PPV billing as a means to spite WCW...
