I was totally expecting Regal to turn face last night and help Eugene get the win. Like Regal has grown to love Eugene like he was his own son or something and becomes his manager to prevent other people from screwing with the retarded kid. I really think that would have worked and I'm disappointed they chose to go the other way and have Regal getting jerked around yet again.

Although I never discussed him on these boards, my home friends can vouch that I definitely saw potential and had high hopes for Eugene. I never found it offensive, just extremely funny and creative, and I love it. It's based on Warren from Something About Mary for the most part, and I love that movie and character. It's not an insult to retarded people in any way.

Regal was never really a heel at all upon his return - he just was sick of Eugene, he didn't exactly use any heel tactics.

 

But yeah, maybe Regal will still end up being pushes as a singles star again - I mean, even though Eugene showing potential in the ring won't mean that he can look after himself, he can't stay with Regal forever.

 

I know! Maybe him (Eugene) and Eric can be a tag team - combining wrestling and martial arts!

I was surprised at how over Eugene was last night. I think the only way he could be more over now is if he came out to the Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get Retarded".

 

As much as I've enjoyed watching the character so far, exceeding my expectations, just like everyone else, as much as I thought about it as he was fighting last night, I don't see him doing much more than he is doing now. He won't be credible and only hurt any title. Even a fluke win for say the US wouldn't seem right. There's a possibility to extend the gimmick that we will see him and Regal win the tag belts. Actually, I say that is more than likely and they will probably beat whatever heel team that beats Benoit/Edge. This situation is really a very delicate one in terms of a future for Dismore.

I honestly beleave that if it wasn't for Regal, the gimick would have been shit canned but I'll admit when I'm wrong. Kudo's for Dinsmore for coming up with the gimmick and kudos to Regal.

I also feel that this thread wasnt necessary because its very redundant. I was readin past threads to see what XX was like before and after and I think the RAW after, the only food on the menu was crow except for a few special orders like Downhome.

I'm not closing this thread because the topic has ended up being somewhat healthy, but in the future, don't start threads to troll other board members in a you're-wrong-admit-it kind of way. It's actually evolved more into a discussion about how many have been surprised at how over Eugene has gotten, which is good. Ha-you-smarks-were-wrong is bad, and that's what I think was the original intent here, because you then get posts like genius moment where he tries (unsuccessfully -- kudos to everyone else for not falling for the bait) to get himself over by flaming everyone.

 

If anyone has any more comments on this not related to the topic of Eugene, please PM me or take it to feedback so we don't veer the topic.

That's being said as if I was one of the most outspoken critics of the gimmick when it was first announced. I didn't like the idea and thought it would bomb, but I don't think I bothered even making more than a post or two concerning it at the time.

If it wasn't for Regal playing Eugene's polar opposite, I don't think I'd be digging the gimmick half as much. I really hope they keep those 2 together for quite a while. Maybe Regal can try to civilize Eugene by getting him to wear suits, comb his hair, ect. It could work.
