Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 I just felt like I needed to write to a bunch of anonymous peers. I'm 25, in Philadelphia, and I've been in a distance relationship with a girl for about a year and a half now. For the same amount of time, I have been working at a $10/hour job with an internationally recognizable company. Now we decided it's time to get in the same place to see where our relationship goes. Philly is out, so that means Brooklyn. So, I've been applying for apartments and jobs, and I put my 2 weeks in with my current job. My thought is that I'll register with temp agencies when I get there. I know I'm being foolish and following my heart, and I'm not even sure what kind of responses I'm looking for. I guess I'm just a little worried about things and this works a little like therapy. Anyone have any similar stories of "taking the chance?" How did it turn out? MrRant 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Umm NY is pretty expensive from what I remember. Hope you have quite a bit of money saved up or find a roommate.
TSA09 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 I agree with Rant. I don't think you're foolish, but it's expensive and you don't wanna end up broke quickly.

I had a buddy living in NYC for a few years and told me about how expensive it is there. I still get the shivers when thinking about it...
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2004 Yeah, I'm definitely going to find a roomie and an affordable apartment. I'm going to do Brooklyn; Manhattan is not even under consideration. I might put 1/3rd of my savings into a 2-year CD so I can't touch it.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted May 13, 2004 From what I know personally from friends and little from my experience the absolute most foolish thing you can do is leave everything behind to go and be with someone you're in a long-distance relationship with. Rarely does this work out, but it has happened before, so who knows? If the relationship doesn't work out, then you're stuck in a new city still trying to adapt and you've left everything behind. Just make sure you keep contacts in Philly and a backup plan in case things don't work out the way you want them to.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted May 14, 2004 I suggest getting a second job just to be able to pay for rent and bills. If it's a good job, maybe you can afford to eat stuff that doesn't have come in a can that has the word "Roni" at the end. NYC like others said is VERY expensive. At least you're not going to Manhatten.
