0:13 doesn't sound remotely legit. You couldn't combo him fast enough to drop him in :03 (since it takes :10 to count him out).

...I did a shade under :30 at my best

It's 0:13 in game time, not real time. The clock doesn't keep counting when Mario is counting. Just watch the movie. He doesn't combo him, he beats him with stars.

Dammit, I d/led a video from that site and it only wants to play the audio (the WMP codec doesn't want to work apparently)

I just d/led and updated the codecs direct from MS, still nothing

It'll open, say "downloading codec... error downloading codec" then plays the audio only

Check out the computer forum, there should be some downloads to some codec in there in the stickied thread. If not, get Zoomplayer. It owns everything else anyway.

I tried it in Real too, just to be sure. No luck there either

Edit: Zoomplayer, huh? Is that what you're using to watch the files?

Edit#2: ZP wouldn't play it either, but Piss suggested DIVX and now it's working fine

Eh, I don't bother to get stars for uppercuts in fights I know I could win blind-folded. Without watching, I'm guessing the person got a quick star for a KO uppercut, or that and Flamenco goes down after alternating rights/lefts and that ends it.

Man, this thread has grown since I visited here last. I think we should pin it. :)

For me, one of the problems I had initiallly with Tyson was that when I'd swing to the left or right I'd press the button too hard/long. If you press it down lighter and quicker you can more easily avoid Tyson's punches. After I did that, I could beat him.

I was just thinking...was this version better than the Super Punch Out on SNES? I'd say yeah, because this one actually had a real challenge to it, and felt more like a boxing game than the 3 minute warning of the SNES one.

Any negatives to dowloading DIVX?

It's better. The second was a pretty good game but the first is an all time classic for the ages. I'm still waiting for a third game.

I doubt it. Unless they can get Mike Tyson back, it won't feel the same. It would be a cool extra feature to allow the "bad guys" to fight each other instead of playing the good guy in a gauntlet.

I'm questioning why people don't have DivX on their computers already. Don't you guys ever watch any movies on your computer?

.....Unless you mean DVD-Rom, I don't bootleg movies via download to watch for free.

Besides, I don't have a DVD-Rom computer (old piece of shit) and just use my regular DVD player.

I thought it'd create ad popups and slow down the computer.

Alright lads, I actually took the time to find a NES emulator and downloaded the ROM of this game.

So far, it's pretty awesome. Does the little dude who you are have any special techniques? I've only played the first pansy boxer guy so far, and he seems to have some sort of (very predictable and easy to dodge) flash punch.

Only the uppercut when you get a star. To get a star, you have to get a timed punch right. In Glass Joes case, just keep punching him until you get one. To perform it, I think you pres start, but since I use my keyboard, I'm not sure what key you use.

Oh yeah. If you get the free version, you have to get GAIN, which is one of the biggest Ad/Spyware companies on the net. After installing DIVX, do a system sweep with your assorted adware scan programs (e.g. Ad-Aware and Spybot) and clean that shit out ASAP

WMP and RealPlayer had always been sufficient up to this point

Well, I've had DivX for a long ass time and I don't have any Spyware or Adware on my computer...or viruses for that matter. In fact, not counting DivX, I have at least twenty other codecs as well. My Zoomplayer should play anything. If it doesn't, it won't play. I watch a lot of movies on my computer. In fact, I just got Troy off of Bit Torrent last night, but I've yet to watch it.

I never really got much farther then like, the Sandman. But question: Wasn't the Mr. Dream version the original?

The Dream version was released in 1990 when the contract with Tyson expired. And since he was no longer champion, they didn't bother to have it resigned, so they just turned him white and called him Mr. Dream.

Actually the original version of Punch-Out (which was in the arcades I believe), when released in Japan didn't feature Dream or Tyson. They added Tyson when the game came to the US, and then changed him to Dream when it was re-released in 1990 and Tyson was either in jail or on his way there.

I could beat anybody with ease, including Super Macho Man, but I never once made it out of the first round against Tyson. I was pummelled for years against him, and still can't do anything to this day.

Tyson went to jail in 1992, two years AFTER the re-release in America, so thats not why he was removed from the game. But as far as the Japanese version goes, I'll have to trust you on that since I'd have no idea.

Yeah, it's usually by catching them off guard. Hit them in the gut when they're trying to punch you, hit them in the head when they're not expecting it, etc.

For all the later guys, I recall it just being lucky (except of course Bald Bull 2). I rarely get a star vs. SMM and occasionally get 1 on Popinski.

I'm pretty sure stars weren't random on Super Macho Man and Sodapop. Can't remember which guy it was but at least one of them was real tough for me to get your big star punch on and just usually led to me getting myself in trouble.

From what I recall, wheneve rI got stars on Popinski, I had to dodge a punch and wait until he was almost back into a regular position to get one. He only allowes 2 Uppercuts the whole fight (unless I give up too easy after 4 missed ones) so it's pointless I think tot ry for them.

SMM I've never gotten a star, and I've fought the guy over 1,000 times probably.
