The original was closer to the actual story, had a scary opening sequence and had old, grainy footage which added to the intensity.

The remake embellished a lot, but still managed to be scary. A great opening sequence, and a worked shoot in the form of a police walkthrough added also.

Which did you rather as a film?

A pox on anyone that votes for the remake.

The only thing that could have saved that movie would have been an extended "Jessica Biel takes a shower" scene. Maybe in the director's cut.

The Original is only about a zillion times better then the re-make. On a related topic I also liked the re-make alot, but its not even close to even touching the original.

Honestly as a Horror person myself I really did enjoy the remake. But your really retarded if you think I'm not going to go with the original. The original TCM is one of the greatest horror films ever made and is one of the most original and groundbreaking films of all time.

The original was closer to the actual story...

...I stopped reading right there. What actual story? This movie is not based on a true story. That has to be one of my biggest pet peeves. When this turd came out last October and everyone around here was freaking out over how scary it was (which I disagree with, but whatever), I got countless phone calls from terrified teenagers (go alliteration!) asking, with quivering voices, if the movie really happened and where Leatherface was today.

I guess he meant the "original story" about Ed Gein, but TCM's plot and characters bear no resemblence whatsoever to the real life events.

Oh, and the original pisses upon the remake from a great height indeed.

That's why I never got the whole "based on a true story" tagline. The only similarity is the fact that both Leatherface and Gein made a 'dead skin mask' and wore it at one point or another.

It's "inspired by a true story" which means it has a lot less to do than "based on"

Good point. But didn't the original use "based on" instead of "inspired by"?

It is to an extent. "Based on a true story" just means the idea for the story came from an actual event, which it did. Ed Gein is the inspiration for both the Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre series.

The only similarity is the fact that both Leatherface and Gein made a 'dead skin mask' and wore it at one point or another.

Dance with the dead in my dreams...

Listen to their hallowed screams...

The dead have taken my soul...

Temptation has lost all control...

:headbang: - I was hoping someone would get that reference.. :P

There was only one true Leatherface, and that was Gunnar Hansen

End of story

Although the remake does have R. Lee Emrey it doesn't hold even a small candle to the original.

No, they said it was 100% real without qualifications. Smart move.

Anyway, TCM is my favorite movie, so much so that I like everything associated with it, including all three sequels and the remake, but of course the inspiration is greater than the inspired, so this is a no contest.

I honestly didn't like the original at all, I think it's way overhyped and isn't all that great, just weird camera angles and a lot of bad acting.
