I'm not really in this argument, but... is it just me, or did you just COMPLETELY ignore Edwin's argument and restate what you've been saying for about five posts? At least produce some counterpoints. Music is for enjoyment, but in my opinion, film, literature, and art are also for enjoyment, and they all are even more enjoyable to analyze and discuss why they're so enjoyable (as Edwin said.) This doesn't apply, of course, if the music sucks. Â That said, I like the White Stripes and the Strokes (to a certain extent,) and bands like Jet (the "mindless entertainment" ones) are mindlessly entertaining the first two or three times around, but you only truly can identify music that bad or that unoriginal or that bland when you want to stab yourself in the chest repeatedly after you've listened to it enough times. This "mindless" music is only amusing to a certain point -- it's the analyzable, original and inventive music that stands out as true art. For your information, even although it has no relevance, I don't like Keane, don't care one way or another about Jet and I enjoyed The Vines first album, despite feeling indifferent to their second. As you can presumably see, I am not arguing based on personal preferences, contrary to your most recent post. The *entire* point of music is that it is made to be enjoyed. For any of the bands that you, and others, routinely slate, it is fair to say that a reasonable number of people, not necessarily including myself, find enjoyment from listening to it. I am complaining, however, about the little brats like you, who see fit to come onto a message board and moan that "(artist A) should die and never make music ever again because they're poluting my ears". Well, fair enough, you dislike a certain musical artist. Nothing unusual there.
