Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 As far as theatrical releases go, I've only sat through Passion of the Christ, Dawn of the Dead, and Mean Girls. I've got a lot of catching up to do.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 2004 has been pretty good this year to me. A solid film has been released at least once a month so far, with other "good" films along the way.
Guest Urine Sane Report post Posted May 30, 2004 I don't agree with Hellboy, I thought it was horrible.

LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 I would add EuroTrip to the good list, at least as a noteable. I laughed so hard at that movie.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Unless you saw Confessions and NY Minute to mock them (like I did) what did you expect from those movies? You had to know they were going to be terrible. Confessions... may have been horribly edited, sloppily put together and made little sense but it had more funny lines then NY Minute. NY Minute was an abortion. Except for Bob Saget's cameo and Mary Kate quoting Avril Lavignesteen the movie felt like an eternity. At least I got good material seeing both.

I try and watch any new movie that comes out. Anyways, I thought Andy was hilarious in New York Minute, and yea .. the Bob Saget cameo was funny too. But overall, pretty awful. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Andy Richter was just pathetic. He looked like he did not want to be there at all and his accent was terrible. The movie was also pretty racist for a family flick. The Bob Saget cameo had me and my friend jump up and cheer. The only part of the movie where I didn't make a comment. Seeing as how you saw Godsend and Envy I guess you do see everything that comes out. Remember- there's nothing wrong with skipping a movie. I see your 10...and I don't see Mean Girls. Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 BB, I agree with you on Mean Girls. I finally checked it out a few days ago, mainly because of how much you were praising it, and I ened up just loving it.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 That's awesome DH. I've seen it 4 times now- it's just such a hilarious movie. There are parts that bother me (I think it could've been darker) and there are logic flaws Why was Aaron at the school dance but it's a very smart and very funny movie. Tim Meadows seriously deserves an Oscar nomination for his role as Mr. Duvall.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted May 30, 2004 It is way too early to be compiling a list like this, remember many studios will release their "best stuff" in the last two months, so that it will have a better chance at getting nominated. So the list can't be taken serious until the end of the year, when it can be stacked up against the whole year, not whole half year. But so far, Kill Bill Vol II, has been the best movie I have seen this year, or for that matter, the best I have seen in the last couple of years.
Kardo 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Add "Super Size Me" to worst films of the year. From having kids singing at the start with a quote over a black screen to the American Flag. Smelled like a Michael Moore film the whole way through, with lack of evidence, animation and just general editing to get a certain result.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Top 3 1. Kill Bill Vol. 2 2. Shrek 2 3. Passion of the Christ Bottom 3 1. Van Helsing 2. Van Helsing 3. Van Helsing
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted May 30, 2004 So I take it you liked Van Helsing... should we preorder the DVD for you to avoid the rush? I think that one will be a rental for me, but most movies are like that for me any how.

I didn't say Andy was good or anything, I said he was hilarious. Anyways, Mean Girls in the top 10? No way. I liked it, thought it was good, but not deserving more than an above average 7.5/10. Atleast, from myself.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Damn. I haven't seen any movies this year -- most recent was Return of the King...
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 30, 2004 You own it to yourself to watch Eternal Sunshine. Why did the Studio wait too long/too early for this movie? Carey should get a nomination for this, as should Winslet... But since it was released in March...it'll get forgotten by december when they start nomination season. Unless it's catches fire on the DVD market...They better re-release it over the Holiday season.
Chazz 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I've only seen 3 Movies this Year so far: Paycheck, The Butterfly Effect, and Dawn Of The Dead. I really enjoyed The Butterfly Effect. I felt It didn't deserve half The bad press It got. Good Movie with a Cool Premise. While The other 2 weren't horrible, they weren't that great either. treble 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 The only movie that I've seen this year that was downright horrible was Van Helsing.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted May 31, 2004 The Dawn of the Dead remake, I feel, is one of the top 5 of this year so far. It was much better than I expected it. If all remakes were like Dawn of the Dead, then I wouldn't mind films being remade. However, #1 this year for me is Kill Bill Volume 2.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I've been to the movies a lot this year- but it's because I've seen Mean Girls 4 times. Of movies that came out in 2004 I've seen: Confessions... (hilariously bad), Passion of the Christ (excellent film but very disturbing to watch), Kill Bill Vol. 2 (just amazing) and New York Minute (which was just terrible) In America, Mystic River, Lost in Translation, Fog of War, and Cold Mountain were all films that I've seen in 2004 that came out last year. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I need to see Fog Of War. Anyways, I redid my list to make it neater and readable: http://disrepute.lvjm.com/movies2004.shtml
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Oh- I also saw Along Came Polly on my free PPV where I lived. It had some funny scenes but as a movie it was terrible. It needed tighter editing as there were a lot of pointless scenes that existed just to embarass Ben Stiller. Plus I never got why Reuben and Polly got together anyway. The movie didn't even explain it! Hank Azaria's story of the hippo was hilarious though- I give it *1/2-**. Fog of War was a really good movie. At times it was a bit slow and tedious but once he started talking about Vietnam it was really fascinating. As someone who didn't know anything about Robert MacNamara going in I learned a lot. His stories about World War II were also really interesting to listen to. I wanted to see Spartan after Ebert gave it **** but the arts theatre pulled it before I got a chance to see it.
