The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 According to Box Office Mojo, Shrek 2 beat out The Day After Tomorrow by three million dollars this weekend. The really impressive part is that Day After Tomorrow made SEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS. Adding it to Shrek 2's 73.1 million makes this the most successful box office weekend ever (or at least 1982). That's crazy. I didn't even bother seeing either of them.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 who would waste 8 dollars to see bad acting?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I would, because I am... tomorrow. And for the record, that $8 that people "waste" is for special effects.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 31, 2004 put a DVD in the microwave if you special effects then.

Another interesting number is that The Day After Tomorrow set the record for the biggest opening by a movie that didn't open in #1, and basically doubled the previous record in that category. Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I think Day After Tomorrow probably benefitted heavily from people showing up at the theatre only to find that Shrek 2 was sold out.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 31, 2004 Sure Shrek 2 being sold out probably sent alot of people over to The Day After Tomorrow, but it wouldn't amount for that much of the total.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2004 I think Day After Tomorrow probably benefitted heavily from people showing up at the theatre only to find that Shrek 2 was sold out. That doesn't really make sense. Shrek 2 made what, 120 million last weekend? If it was selling out all over the place this week, how would there have been space for almost twice as many viewers last week?

Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I don't think Day After Tomorrow will make that much money $6 million max. Who is in it Jake Galafjfioealgjalhkus and Dennis Quad? Razateca, show yourself... Anyway. Next Week: 1. Harry Potter 3 2. Shrek 2 3. The Day After Tomorrow 4. Troy 5. Raising Helen
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2004 I wonder if next week could be another record breaker. Could top 3 go something like: 1. Harry Potter 3 90 million 2. Shrek 2 45 million 3. Day After Tomorrow 35 million or are those projections too high? That would be 170 million for the top 3 movies alone.
