Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 3, 2004 If anything...that match would have to be Stampede footage... Didn't Benoit do some WWF work before he even arrived in WCW (i mean for the first trip) as one of the few CW's they used for the short lived Juniorweight title? I'd love to see one of those matches...I doubt they were great but it certaintly has value...considering they put flair and Foley's " first" matches on DVD...i dont see why they couldn't for Benoit. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2004 I just watched the trailer and Oh shit! it looks like they show what happened after WM XX went off the air! *makes a prayer Edit: Ah fuck, Benoit Vs. Lesnar isn't on it! God damn it, I was hoping they could release that match on a DVD, I fucking loved it.

I really wouldn't know about that, but I know for sure that he did some dark matches with the WWE with Ted DiBiase as his manager in the mid 90s. But what you're asking I think is way before that. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 3, 2004 Didn't Benoit do some WWF work before he even arrived in WCW (i mean for the first trip) as one of the few CW's they used for the short lived Juniorweight title? No, Benoit didn't do any WWF work before he arrived in WCW for the first time. I'm pretty sure of that. He did however wrestle 3 matches at television tapings around June of 95 (That's what the internet tells me but I always thought it was earlier than that myself). They were against Bob Holly, Owen Hart and Adam Bomb. He lost in all 3 of his match where I believe he wrestled as both a face and a heel. THe Million Dollar did come out with him at least one time and this even resulted in an article in one of the Aptor magazines talking about how he could replace someone in their stable. Word out on the street was that Benoit was going to originally be the "Ringmaster" but Benoit decided not to go with the WWF becausse it would mean the end of his international travels and he wasn't quite ready to do that. I've heard both Owen Hart and the reffere who reffed the match talk about the Owen vs Benoit match. The reff really praised it and Owen commented that they really wrestled more of a NJPW style match than a WWF one. Considering that they had great chemistry in Japan this would be a match to definitely see.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 3, 2004 One Egg that I would like to see is, if it's been taped, Chris Benoit's FIRST match. I've seen the first televised match of Benoit in late 1985 which is said to be his first match as well. It's a tag match with Rick Patterson/Benoit vs Karl Moffat/Mike Hammer. The match is clipped like so many in Stampede are but it is fun to see Benoit in his first match and afterwards his first angle. But I have heard reports Benoit did a few shows here and there for Stampede before that. I don't know of any dates but I do that the aforementioned tag match is generally thought of as his first bout.

MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2004 I would just like to say as one of the first things I do now that I am back 100%.... Thanks to this thread, which I had just began to read about 5 minutes ago, I am now the owner of this DVD. Thanks, TSM. Dames Dames, it's the least I can do for you for providing awesome EWR commentary. So, thank you instead.

No, Benoit didn't do any WWF work before he arrived in WCW for the first time. I'm pretty sure of that. He did compete for the WWF Junior Heavyweight Title in the very early 1990s. The belt was defended in Japan, Mexico, and the like and had no real association with Vince other than the name.

brokentusk16 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 OK, let's see here: match against Bret Hart, matches against Guerrero, match against Sasuke, match against Angle, and WM threeway.......how can I NOT buy this?!? And by putting the Rumble match and WMXX on the DVD, WWE just saved me the money of buying those two respective DVD's! Who says Vinne Mac is the devil? From what I can tell... The title that Benoit held was the WWF/UWA Light-Heavyweight Championship. I don't think it was ever defended in the United States. Hell, the WWF didn't even care enough to prevent Ultimo Dragon from bringing it on WCW TV with the other title belts he had in the Octuple Crown of titles. Anyway, when WWF decided to have a televised version of the Light-Heavyweight Championship, whoever was champion at the time was stripped of that version of the title, and then came the one where Taka was the first champion. Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 6, 2004 From memory the WWF belt was actually a WWF belt but at that time they had absolutely nothing to do with it or no interest it. These are some of the matches that are important in Benoit's UWA run. Benoit defeated Villano III in a title match on 3/3/91. The match which was 2/3 falls as so many Mexican matches are. It also had an ending that was somewhat controversial. 11/3/91 Benoit loses his mask to Villano III 2/3 falls 1/26/92 Benoit defends title against Villano III 1/26/92 I believe this was Benoit's longest match of his singles career but the version that's floating around doesn't contain the whole match. Still holds a lot though. 3/3/92 Benoit vs Villano IV 9/13/92 Villano III beats Benoit for the tite. I've never seen this. If anybody knows of anybody that has footage of this please tell me. Thank you.
Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Off topic, but do you think we'll get the uncensored version of Bret vs. Benoit (I hear some of the stuff during the comercial adds to the match), or the TV version with the comercial being edited out ala Malenko vs. Rey from Nitro on the Rey DVD? Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Likey just the TV version... They didn't show the unedited version of Flair/Windham

Who knows? It's easily accessable if they want it. And yes it does help the match out some. What I'd also like to see though is the full Benoit vs Austin Smackdown match or the rescent Benoit vs Michaels match. Man, I hate commercial breaks.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Have they ever shown a TV match in full upon re-release? (ignoring commercial breaks)

That would be nice, the only bad thing being they would have to blur the old logo out, and I can't stand that, it bothers me too much and takes away from the match IMO. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2004 Or at least keep the stock music. ( @ the thought of WWE editing over the stock music with the WWE themes)
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 6, 2004 couldn't they just use Bret's WWE Theme and Benoit's current theme instead of the stock? sounds logical.
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 7, 2004 Stock music? Didn't Jimmy Hart do Bret's WCW theme? Also, I'm pretty sure that Benoit came out to the Revolution's theme instead of stock music. I don't think there's any need for WWE to edit the entrance themes for the Benoit vs. Hart match.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I don't think there's any need for WWE to edit the entrance themes for the Benoit vs. Hart match. We say that all the time, but that doesn't stop WWE from doing it on the DVDs. I just said it since WWE didn't keep most of the WCW guys' music when they came over along with WWE also editing over or editing out Booker T, Rey Mysterio, and the nWo's theme on some of the DVDs. Just don't be surprised if some of the matches start from the opening bell.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 7, 2004 I'm still curious why it's called the BENOIT STORY... when it's just a collection of matches...there's not a history piece on him or anything...really strange named dvd. It should just be "The Crippler Chronicles" The Chris Benoit Ultimate Collection
