Depending on the responses, I may be creating more of these, trying to come up with as original topics as I can on the subject.

 

I'd have to choose Jack's meeting with Kevin Carroll in the limo in season 1. Carroll shows up expecting someone else, who Jack has already killed, and is locked in as Jack does high speed doughnuts in the parking lot and whips him all around inside.

Chase Edmunds in Mexico

Chase is tied up and gets the hell beat out of him in a barn, and is shot through the hand.

 

Alan Miliken dies without his heart pills

Sherry stops Julia from giving him the meds as he has a heart attack and falls out of his wheelchair dieing on the kitchen floor.

 

Marie Warner at the airport

Jack shot her in the arm to save Kate, and wouldn't give her anything for the pain till he got info on the nuke. He even squeezed her arm where the bullet was lodged.

 

Sayed Ali at the mosque

The head terrorist's family is heald hostage at home as the murder of his oldest son is staged on the monitor so he gives up info.

 

Roger Stanton at the OC

Palmer has him shocked with those hospital shock paddles by a CIA expert.

 

Kate Warner's encounter with an exacto knife

After watching her PI get his funny bone sawed off and then shot to death, Kate's ear is sliced with an exacto knife.

 

Jack's torture and temporary death

Jack is stripped naked and pumped full of drugs that stop his heart.

 

Jack's limo ride with Kevin Carroll

Jack and the towel

Jack is in the mind of (Ted Koffel, I think) the man that Carroll was going to meet with in the limo. He threatened to shove a towel down his throat and pull it out as he digested it, taking his stomach with it.

Sayed Ali. That still stands out as one my hugest 24 "holy shit" moments, and probably the #1 insane moment of Season 2. Course, it was staged, but still...yikes. There's some good torture for ya.

Defnitely Jack being stripped naked and tortued and almost died. Kind of crazy with the shit that he went through.

 

Why not Chase gettin his arm chopped off? I would consider that tortue

Honourable mentions go to Chase in Mexico (who gained my respect after that also), Kate Warner's encounter with an exacto nnife and Jack's torture and temporary death.

Jack and the towel gets my vote. It's too bad he never got to use it.

The threat of Sayed Ali's sons getting mowed down was a real holy shit moment for season 2, which is why I voted for it, but the way Jack explained the towel torture in season one gave me goosebumps. He was stone-cold in his explaination. Honorable mention shout out to the Chase (officially a bad-ass after that) and the breaking of Stanton, because I wasn't sure if Palmer had the balls to order torture. Clearly it was necessary, but he'd ALWAYS been a by the books, on principle guy, in season 1.
