BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2004 *The taping opened with Jimmy Hart coming out and welcoming everyone and cutting a promo. *Jonny Fairplay returned to NWA:TNA for the first time in several months, coming out with a bodyguard and cutting a promo. *The actual Impact! Taping began at this point. *The show opened with Sonny Siaki & Irish Pat Kenney & Desire defeating Johnny Swinger & Glen Gilberti & Trinity in a mixed six person tag as Kenney pinned Gilberti. *Heavy Metal pinned NWA:TNA X-Division champion Frankie Kazarian in a non-title match. They must be doing an awesome job at keeping the crowd hot as it's really loud to the point I can hardly hear my source over the phone.
Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted June 3, 2004 eh, doesn't sound that good so far. Is there suppose to be a 6-way X-Title number one contendership match later on?
Guest Donners Report post Posted June 4, 2004 So Fairplay's promo was not actually taped for the show? Seems a bit odd considering he told millions of Survivor viewers he would be on it.
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Results from the first NWA:TNA Impact! TV Taping at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida saw the following results: Dark Matches: *The taping opened with Jimmy Hart coming out. Hart was accompanied by a music video that featured mostly WWF footage. Hart welcoming everyone and cut a promo. Hart then introduced Jonny Fairplay, who returned to NWA:TNA for the first time in several months and come out with a hooded bodyguard named Tyson and cut a promo. *The show opened with Sonny Siaki & Irish Pat Kenney & Desire defeating Johnny Swinger & Glen Gilberti & Trinity in a mixed six person tag as Kenney pinned Gilberti. *Heavy Metal pinned NWA:TNA X-Division champion Frankie Kazarian in a non-title match. Impact! Taping *Sonjay Dutt & Hector Garza & The Amazing Red defeated Petey Williams & Bobby Rude & Eric Young. *Abyss pinned Shark Boy. *America's Most Wanted defeated Kid Kash and Dallas to win the NWA Tag Team championships. *NWA champion Jeff Jarrett came out during a Dusty Rhodes interview. This led to Jarrett laying out Ron Killings with a guitar shot, setting up an angle for next Wednesday's PPV. *AJ Styles won a four-way bout to win an X-Division championship match at next Wednesday's PPV, defeating Michael Shane, Elix Skipper, and Chris Sabin after pinning Shane. *In a post taping dark match, Ron Killings won a Gauntlet bout. The Gauntlet came down to Killings and Monty Brown as the final two competitors. Notes: As we noted earlier on the site, the promotion requested that the fans cheer the babyfaces and boo the heels, using that terminology....Mike Tenay and Don West did commentary live for the Impact! bouts but not the other matches. The Spanish announcing team was also doing commentary. pwinsider.com BULLSHIT, NO FUCKING SURPRISES?

BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Well TNA had their chance. This show ain't going to draw shit. They needed to come out with a bang and they didn't even attempt anything out of the ordinary.
Guest Donners Report post Posted June 4, 2004 How much could they do in under an hour? If they come out with a couple of big-names, they'll be accused of having washed-up wrestlers who cost too much and achieve nothing and be told that nobody would watch. If they just go with their regulars, they didn't try anything special and are told that nobody would watch.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted June 4, 2004 AJ Styles is out of the NWA title picture and into the X Division Title picture....SURPRISE! They'll be competition --- for my attention when I'm tanking a massive dump. BTW, Corey, I think we can imagine somebody who is blowing loads over Fairplay being back. -=Mike
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 They could have debuted someone new like Kanyon atleast. They didn't even give an explanation as to who the woman at the ppv was last night.
Guest Donners Report post Posted June 4, 2004 And because of Kanyon not being there the show won't draw? It's on at 3pm FFS - they could debut a dozen people and it wouldn't draw. As for the woman, most of the viewers wouldn't have seen the PPV and many wouldn't have followed it, so I doubt they'd care if they revealed anything about her.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted June 4, 2004 And because of Kanyon not being there the show won't draw? No, the show being the same crap that doesn't draw on PPV is why it won't draw. -=Mike
Guest Donners Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Judging from Raw's ratings, I don't even think quality (as determined by the IWC, at least) is that much of a draw at all.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Judging from Raw's ratings, I don't even think quality (as determined by the IWC, at least) is that much of a draw at all. Yes, because when the IWC felt that WCW sucked in 2000 --- they did MONSTER BUSINESS! When we felt that Russo was a disaster in WCW, God knows the numbers DISPROVED THAT!! -=Mike
Celtic Jobber 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 What? No Raven? He's the main reason I was looking forward to the show. I haven't been keeping up with TNA stuff lately, is he injured or something?
Guest Donners Report post Posted June 4, 2004 What? No Raven? He's the main reason I was looking forward to the show. I haven't been keeping up with TNA stuff lately, is he injured or something? The Impact focus is on the X-Division and he costs quite a lot, so I guess they decided to save him for PPVs.

Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted June 4, 2004 so were all the matches in a 6-sided ring then? and any word on how the main event was? sounds decent, might tape that match...
Astro101 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 AMW wins the tag titles...that's a good thing really as the tag division has been pretty much in the dumps. TNA needs to get the tag division rolling again.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 I've been wanting Styles to move back to the X division for a long time now. He's faced all the heavyweights so the matches would just keep repeating. Fresh matches against the people he hasn't faced in the X division and people he hasn't faced in a long time is a good thing...

Astro101 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 "The doors are open for the first NWA:TNA Impact! Taping in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios. There are said to be an estimated 550 fans at the taping, which is free to the public. The set is said to look really cool, with separate entrances for the babyfaces and the heels. They have the six-sided ring set up, but there is no traditional ring at the taping. An emcee being used to warm up the fans in attendance is currently explaining that the fans should “cheer the babyfaces and boo the heels.” Yes, they used that terminology. When WCW used to tape Worldwide at the MGM Studios at Disney, they had the same policy of leading who the fans would cheer and boo. Personally, I am not a fan of forcing things like that on the fans, but they obviously want to have a hot crowd for the taping and I guess they feel leading them is the best way to insure that." Separate entrances for heels and faces, I knew it! Well, I guess there aren't any tweeners anymore.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Whatever, I am going to watch A.J. Styles vs. Chris Sabin vs. Elix Skipper vs. Michael Shane and enjoy it. You people were crying for an alternative a few years ago, now you've got a free television show with decent matches and you shit on it?
BoboBrazil 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Better results: The place was packed with 900 fans, mostly teenage guys who were into everything. They really helped make the show rock. Jimmy Hart welcomed everyone to the show. Jonny Fairplay then came out with a masked wrestler and cut a promo. NON-FOX MATCHES (1) Sonny Siaki & "Irish" Pat Kenney & Desire beat Trinity & Glenn Gilberti & Johnny Swinger (2) Heavy Metal pinned Frankie Kazarian in a non-title match. IMPACT TAPING (1) Amazing Red & Sonjay Dutt & Hector Garza beat Team Canada (Bobby Roode & "Showtime" Eric Young & Petey Williams. I think it was Roode who his that intverted powerbomb off the ropes. Impressive! Team Canada had cool matching outfits. Everyone's outfits tonight were major league, a major step up from what I have seen on the PPVs. (2) Abyss pinned Shark Boy. A Popeye mascot ran out and made the save afterward, which the crowd popped big for. (3) America's Most Wanted beat Kid Kash & Dallas to capture the NWA World Tag Team Titles. AMW seemed to have some trouble adjusting to the six-sided ring, but otherwise the wrestlers seemed to be okay in the new style ring. Jeff Jarrett interrupted a Dusty Rhodes promo when Dusty was talking about the prestige of the NWA World Title. When Ron Killings came out, Jarrett hit him with a guitar. (4) A.J. Styles beat Michael Shane and Elix Skipper and Chris Sabin in a four-way match to determine the no. 1 contender for the X Title. Styles wasn't announced ahead of time, as the fourth slot was called a mystery. Fans, though, were chanting "We Want A.J." before he came out. He got one of the biggest pops of the night. Really good match to show off the X Division style. The six-sided ring added to the cool moves. NON-IMPACT MATCH (1) Ron "The Truth" Killings beat Monty Brown in a Gauntlet match with all of the other big name heavyweights including Raven, Sabu, Road Dogg, etc. Raven got a huge pop as fans definitely recognized him. Notes: I heard there were fans lined up in the 100 degree humid weather since 2 p.m., five hours before the taping started, just so they could get the best seats... The entrance set, which includes a separate tunnel for the babyfaces and heels, was awesome. I feared the place was going to feel too "Hollywood" and movie-set-like, but it was just a cool set up and really seemed classy and major league... Jimmy Hart was plugging the tapings all day around the theme park to tourists and he was throwing around names like Sting and Hacksaw Duggan to try to draw fans to the arena. He must have been worried about filling the place and was willing to lie to get people to go... Jeremy Borash told the crowd they were much more normal and better looking than the Nashville fans. Pretty funny!... pwtorch.com

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 I feel that David Young should win matches on Impact...and continue to lose on ppv and Xplosion...then dub himself "The King of the 6-sided ring"
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Well TNA had their chance. This show ain't going to draw shit. They needed to come out with a bang and they didn't even attempt anything out of the ordinary. I think this is about as good as a debute show as you can get. 2 X-Division matches, a title change and some of the bigger names in a promo. And the crowd was really hot. Sounds like that's a decent enough show to me. Already looks better than any of the ECW TNN shows that didn't have Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka facing off. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 Sounds to me like they want to start off at square-one with the workers where they'd be the strongest (AMW together as tag champs, Styles in X-Division). With the WWE burying their cruiserweight division, focusing on the X-Division might be what TNA needs to stand-out as a product. (Although once Styles gets over with the new audience, they'll probably move him back to the World Title level, I bet.) Having Dusty talk about the NWA World Title was a good idea, although I wish they'd done something more original than have Truth get hit by a chair. I'm curious to see how all this plays on TV. Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2004 (2) Abyss pinned Shark Boy. A Popeye mascot ran out and made the save afterward, which the crowd popped big for. What the Fucking fuck? Looks like a badass show. Can't wait to see in on Saturday night. And I'm sure someone will pose this question after a while. I can imagine the big reason for guys like Brown, Raven, Sabu, James, etc. being flown in for the show is that promo pictures needed to be taken on the new sets, and they wanted all their wrestlers to become familiar with the area at the very same time to make it easier on them in weeks to come. If Raven's nonsensically being flown in to do a Dark Match three weeks from now, that's when you can scratch your head.
