The One and Only SmackDown Sucks / SolutionsThread

Recommended Posts

Besides what's been mentioned already:

1) Vince MUST get rid of the B show mentality, or hand it over to someone else to take care of. I'm sure if Shane was given total control, at least stuff would happen. Sure, we'd get him in big feuds...but I'd put up with that if he actually gave a damn about the show. Give it to Heyman. Give it to Cornette. Give it to someone other than Pritchard or Steph. They've had their chance. They failed. Time to change.

2) Get some morale back in the lockerroom...and get some damn control If Holly continues to be the self-centered jerk he is reported to be, he must go. If RVD continues to turn up late, he must go. I don't care how popular he is. Lack of commitment should be punished. Get rid of the back-stabbing, back-fighting, bitchy comments that the dirtsheets are dieing for. Try and make people happy on the show.

3) DO SOMETHING! The show is the same over and over again each week. If something surprising or interesting where to happen, the crap can be somewhat overshadowed.

4) Bring in Sting...see above. The guy is worth a go surely. Sting's debut would get people talking, for better or worse. If it doesn't work, then at least they've made the effort and attempt. The show NEEDS a gamble to be made.

I don't watch the show, but by reading the spoilers, it looks like they could go one of two ways with the Kurt Angle character. He can focus his wrath on Cena, which, would of course lead to another horrid feud. Since I'm not watching, a lousy sequel to the first nightmare wouldn't really piss me off, just keep the status quo.

Or, he could focus all his energies on Eddie, building up to the Mania rematch at Survivor Series where Kurt wins the belt again and holds until mania where Eddie regains.

That would get me watching again, which is a step in the right direction.

so you have NO problem with Angle losing the title match three years in a row?

Wow.

Why would I? It's the Main Event (or one of them) of Wrestlemania, and in two of them, he would go in as champion.

I'd like to see him win the belt (not retain) at a Mania, but that's not all that likely and wouldn't be that smart. This is just as good.

Better than anything else (Save HBK or Flair) they could give him.

I have to agree that an Eddie/Angle feud is about the only thing that can get me interested in Smackdown right now. If they could keep up the animosity between Angle and Cena somehow so that Cena would get the next feud with Angle after he wins the title, that would be great, but otherwise the Cena/Angle storyline is completely expendable. They HAVE to go with Angle/Eddie at Summerslam or else the whole show is pretty much screwed.

Small twist I had in mind for the above Angle/Eddie feud.

Remember how Angle said on TV he could never wrestle again due to the fall he took from Big Show?

Well, what if to keep that illusion going on for the people, he introduces a new masked wrestler with the same ideals and beliefs of him. Call him something patriotic sounding besides Mr. America or The Patriot.

On the first night, have this new guy and Angle in the ring together, and have Angle promote the heck out of the guy...even eventually getting him a title match.

Build up this guy vs. Guerrero, and at their match, he does moves like Kurt Angle. Make the announcers question it, have them say maybe Kurt trained this guy. Have the upset victory...

...and then have him unmask, to reveal he was Kurt Angle all along!

It would also work because the all knowing, mysterious board of directors would probably be upset about a GM going for a title of one of his workers.

Running Angle/Cena would cause me to stop watching again almost immediately.

But if they somehow see some kind of good in renewing that disaster feud, don't let me stop them.

AS, I think you've made your thoughts on Angle / Cena perfectly clear. Please don't keep bringing it up.

I think it's a valid point to bring up when they are hinting at running it again.

I'm not just randomly ranting on a bad feud from six months ago (this time.)

It's not like I'm screaming about the Edge feud.

WWE appears to be possibly angling toward an Angle/Cena feud, and I'm just noting that the first was hideous.

Smackdown is dying a quick and painful death.

Bruce Pritchard drove WWF nearly to the ground in 1995...He's finishing the job now.

And he's going to replace Laguna very very soon in my opinion..because of his political power...

I never thought I would ever see Bruce Prichard back on the creative team ever again.....before mid 1996 he almost drove the company out of business...before Russo took over the creative reigns....What could Stephanie McMahon possibly be thinking putting his ass back on the creative team..

And I totally agree Choken he has come to finish the job....

I guess I missed that feud completely when it happened before. I don't get UPN during the school year, and while I followed the main event feuds on the net, I didn't really pay attention to every little thing that happens on the undercard.

I do know now though that I find Smackdown largely unwatchable, and Angle is the most accessible main event presence that is strong enough to make the show interesting again.

Not to mention that I've been an official Angle mark since No Way Out in 2002.

Problem even with Angle is that he is made to be a mad GM.

We had our Shares of Evil GM's Ruthless GM's Power Mad GM's Drunk GM's Old and Crazy GM's and Big Boobed GM's and now... we got the Insane I hate everyone GM.

I, of course, didn't watch Smackdown this week, and do to my computer busting and me ordering a new one, this is the first I've seen the results.

IMO, they're really sliding too far past Angle/Eddie and need to move towards that again. Bradshaw/Eddie and Angle/Cena aren't real solutions, and a good build to an eventual Mania rematch could make it even better.

No... no ... NOOO WAY can they possibly set up Angle for another Wrestlemania. No no no. He's done. Cooked. Out for life. Finished. Plus, we have a billion pay per views between now and another Wrestlemania and I refuse to sit tight with this awful Smackdown situation the way it is and wait for Angle to come back in order to cripple himself (again) while giving some really terrible promos that make me want to change the channel because the guy can't do serious acting to save his life. He's got a comedic talent but that, my friends, is all he has. Deal.

What about Survivor Series?

Honestly, what else does Smackdown have for the Mania ME?

Big Show? Taker? Cena (Who had let himself go to the point of being unwatchable by the time baseball season started)?

Edit:

Not to mention that I've been an official Angle mark since No Way Out in 2002.

Just wanted to say that that's a really strange show to hop on Kurt's bandwagon.

Angle is simply never going to be full time again (or if he is, he'll be hurt again in short order) so its almost a waste to shuck him into main events entirely unless you have major, major problems. The thing is Smackdown has major, major problems so I really don't see a problem taking Angle and placing him in a main event role for a Pay Per View like Summerslam or what have you. But Mania needs to establish a couple of things including the movement of the product towards its next period as well as the ending of major storylines. WWE simply can't rely on Kurt to be a major player since he's basically got the same physical attributes of Flair or The Undertaker at the present time.

As far as WWE is concerned, Smackdown simply cannot plan out to Mania right now. The show is stagnant and slow moving as hell now much like booking for the 'big five' event they just had. They need to do something now or in the next few months in order to get the 'flow' of the program back into grove. Short term book Eddie into position to face the Paul Heyman faction with a 'abused heel' Undertaker to get some excitement going again, get Cena to reaffirm the roots of the gimmick that got him over in the first place, and elevate RVD and Booker to World Title Threats pronto and worry about Mania around the King of the Ring.
