I hope the Kane/Benoit feud...

I hope the Kane/Benoit feud is proof positive to those of you who persist in claiming that the "Number 1 Contender wants the belt" is enough motivation for a PPV ME. Because that's what they're doing with Kane and Benoit and it's boring as fuck.

Meh, never hurts to get to the point. Its better than trying to come up with a lame-ass side angle to add to it.

Exactly, at least Benoit-Kane doesn't have any Katie Vick, yet.

It doesn't matter what the reason for a match is if the angle's not built up.

We've had one promo and one fight between the 2. And the PPV is this week.

If they would've built it up better, it'd be perfectly fine.

You've got to be kidding me. The flaws in Benoit/Kane are numberous, the #2 flaw being that Kane didn't legitimately become #1 contender (the #1 flaw is the TV time they are giving to the feud). For the "Champion vs. #1 Contender" to work, you have to have two strong competitors, since -of course- this "story" is based on competition.

Why did Kane get the title shot when he is preoccupied with getting laid with Lita or smacking retards around?

Because he is a MONSTER~!

And the Undertaker wasn't legitimately eliminated from the 93 Rumble, same with Maven from the 2002 RR, but that didn't stop WWE before.

Or for that matter, Piper from the 1990 Royal Rumble

That was the build for Mania XX. And especially Backlash. Two number one contenders want the belt.

And it's so much better than bad comedy angles or far fetched bullshit.

Err... what does that have to do with anything regarding this storyline?

Dumbass: "Who ever says the #1 Contender storyline can work at a ME level is wrong because that's the pretense of the Kane/Benoit feud and it's boring"

Me: "But Kane isn't even a legitimate #1 Contender; the heart of this storyline is both Champion and Contender are strong."

Dumbass #2: "Well this guy and this guy weren't eliminated and that didn't stop the WWE"

I really don't see the point of that last part.

And obviously you're blind, YOU are saying Kane isn't even the legitimate #1 Contender. MY point was saying Yokozuna and HHH were not legitimate RR winners because The Undertaker and Maven were not legitimately eliminated from their respective RRs.

What I'm trying to say is you're pointing out flaws you shouldn't be surprised to be doing since it HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, dumbass!

Conveniently, you left out a major difference. When Yokozuna and HHH won Royal Rumbles, they weren't flat on their back while someone ran in and caused the final elimination. Yoko and HHH won the Royal Rumble on their own. They eliminated the last person. Kane didn't. Shawn Michaels caused the final elimination while Kane was staring at the ceiling.

Dude, you really shouldn't be calling anyone a dumbass. For someone who claims to be "forever old school," you ask more questions in the "Old School questions" thread than anyone else.

from my understanding. and in my opinion...

Kane isn't a legitimate #1 contender because he's been made to look like an absolute fucking joke over the last 6 months.

- he got destroyed by the Undertaker at WMXX in a match that could've given him tremedous momentum had he won.

- he lost to Edge. in a match that victory that did nothing for Edge and a loss that further derailed Kane. (which would now put him roughly 448 miles from the tracks).

... the fact of the matter is that Kane isn't a "legitimate" contender in the sense that he is not a believible #1 contender. much in the same fashion (although not as extreme) that if Steven Richards or Hurricane would've won that battle royal (even sans HBK interference) they also wouldn't be legitimate contenders for a PPV title match. i'd've had no problems with Kane winning the spot if the match would've been for the following week's RAW, but for a PPV main. not in a million years.

You always seem to call me out in every thread, don't you? I'm forever old school because old school will always be > new school. And besides I got a shitty memory, sue me.

*DING*

Had Kane been the unstoppable monster from the summer who beat everyone to become #1 contender, you'd have people think "This guy could/*should* be champion". Fact is, Kane didn't beat Shawn -OR- HHH (aka the two previous #1 contenders), so why does he get it? Oh, because of a technicality. That completely kills the mystique; it kills the competitive aspect. The #1 Contender shouldn't just be a title to assign someone, it should be ACTIONS which define a wrestler. The point of the feud is that you have the 2 BEST WRESTLERS going at it to see who is THE best. That's the appeal. Kane is not represented as the best. Neither is Benoit, unfortunately.

If it seems that way, it's merely a coincidence. I just felt it was relatively childish to call Rudo a "dumbass" when it wasn't necessary. I don't have anything against you personally...not yet anyway.

Back to the topic, I agree with Kahran and Triple R. Besides "winning" the battle royal, Kane hasn't done anything else to be viewed as a legitimate title contender.

Well, it doesn't take a genius to figure out he decided to take a cheap flame at me so I merely returned the favor.

Anways, just face it, HHH still overshadowed without having the title or even fueding with him. Benoit / Kane if anything was just used as a stepping stone to elevate the HIAC match which should only be the main event of a PPV if the title is on the line.

It doesn't matter though, I'm still looking forward to the title match.

I side with Deon on this, seen as though RRR called him a dumbass first.

Guy from crowd: WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!?

Erm..... but yeah, Kane hasn't done anything to be considered a 'top contender'. It was so built for Jericho considering he had just won the big blow off in his feud with Christian.

They made a more interesting storyline with Kane and Lita. during the first month and half the second before the PPV.

What are you talking about?! Benoit and Kane have had plenty of interactions. Why, Benoit looked at Kane and one of them -I forget which one, but I know for a fact this happened- made the belt motion around his waist. And Kane cut a promo talking about how jealous he was of Benoits life. And Benoit came down and saved Eugene. This goes far, my friend. PLUS, you can use your imagination and think of some backstory the two have that has yet to be revealed - did you know that when Benoit started wrestling that his very first match was against Kane? And did you know that Kane is really Benoits son? Oh yeah, believe it, cause what happened was that Kane came back from the future and that's why he was hideously scarred - cause there was lots of heat from the time machine - and the DNA test from a few years ago didn't say "Bearer" it said "Benoit", but there was smudge and they just saw the first two letters. Why is has Kane come back from the future? Well you have to tune in and watch! And why does Funaki watch Kanes matches so intently? Well, thats a whole other story.

Benoit is working for The General, not Kane. I don't think it's a coincidence that when The General came to Smackdown. Benoit left for RAW. See, when Benoit wrestled in Mexico, he was taken under the wing of The General and in return for The Generals support, Benoit promised him the World Title. Now, old debts are coming back to haunt the Canadian Crippler and he's torn in whether or not to obey old allegiances, or keep the title he worked so hard to get. The General will remind Benoit that the sacrifices don't stop when you're champ, and that it's time to give up what is most precious to him.
