You don't have to reserve judgement on Kenzo Suzuki. Let it be known from this day forth that he is garbage.

Let's place bets on how long Kenzo Suzuki is employed by the company.

I'll say a month max.

With Kenzo, it looks like they are still doing the Hirohito gimick without calling him Hirohito.

Oh, and he really, truley, sucks. All he had were crappy looking chops.

I actually watched pretty much the whole show. It wasn't extremely terrible, but I think a lot of it had to do with a good cruiser match, and the Gauntriple Challenge, or whatever. I agree that the psychology of the latter was all screwed up though--Booker wasting time, Cena NOT trying to waste time. It's bad when pro wrestlers make mistakes that a little bit of common sense should have taken care of.

Kenzo sucks, but he isn't the Japanese Nathan Jones. His offense looked hella weak and his moveset was yeech. Working too "airy" spelled bad news for Ultimo, so we shall see.

Note to WWE bookers: modern-day Japan is nothing like a Kurosawa sushi western film, and Kenzo is no Toshirô Mifune.

Oh, JHawk--if all your Smackdown reports were formatted this way, I don't think people would miss the old ones much. :D Until SD gets good again, it isn't too pressing to recap it in much detail.

Yeah, you're probably right, but I'm a sucker for detail.

Did they give a name for Kenzo's finisher, or did Cole just call it something along the lines of "Japanese takedown"?

Wow Smackdown didn't sound that bad this week, but I still didn't watch.

Nope, no name for it yet, I guess.

Sounds like a Downward Spiral from what I'm gathering, but it probably isn't.

Cole: SUZUKI WITH A SIDEWALK SLAM! (actually a punch)

I can't remember exactly what Cole said for the move, but I know the word "legsweep" was in there. All it really was was a legsweep with him pushing down on the other guy's head a little bit as he did it.

It's more like an STO. He puts on the iron claw, and then sweeps them forward, driving the back of their head to the mat.

WWE Smackdown did a 3.0 rating this week with a 5 share. That is down from a 3.2 last week and is another horrible rating for the show.

I love the absolute and total difference in ratings reporting from PWI and Meltzer. Meltzer reported the same rating, but went on to say "This rating is quite good for being up against the NBA Finals and the MTV Movie Awards (which cut into SD's rating every year)."

So in a few months when Raw's Main Event scene is stale again, and Shelton/Edge/Batista and Orton (Raw's Next level of stars) won't be able have any fresh matches since many of the matches between them have taken place already....will SD! Suddenly seem fresh since they'll have a wealth of fresh , albeit crappy new guys?

Kenzo's move looks more like a takedown than any kind of slam.

While bring far from a great show, I actually didn't mind it. I loved how much the wrestling portion was focused on. Some great wrestling on the show.

In case anyone's interested, Kenzo's finisher is a slightly modified jiu jitsu technique called Osotogari ('Major Outer Reap'), which Tazz called correctly. It's actually one of the first things most jitsu schools teach (because it's fairly simple and low-impact) and I've seen white belts do it better than Suzuki did.

No there wasn't. Please show me this 'great wrestling' that took place on SmackDown!
