Degrassi: TNG

Recommended Posts

okay so the new season began on the Noggin channel a couple weeks ago, Degrassi fans let's discuss...

first episode revolved around Sean and Emma's soap opera relationship that has begun to bore me to tears. more stuff comes up missing throughout the school and emma slips the word to raddich (however you spell it) that sean and his gangsta-wannabe friends are behind it...of course they come up clean...at the same time, emma is trying to hook up with chris (the brotha who can't seem to speak clearly and is a DJ on the side), but the kabosh gets put down hard on that once he finds out that emma is a goody goody snitch girl...episode ends with sean and chris telling her off and her standing there with egg on her face, which i love to see because i can't stand her character at all...

second episode was pretty much a breakfast club rip-off with sean, ellie, toby, hazel and jimmy landing in saturday detention...sean=judd nelson, ellie=ally sheedy, jimmy=emilio estevez, hazel=molly ringwald, toby=anthony michael hall...of course the hook ups are different, but they totally ripped that movie for this episode...this ended with kind of a kooky storyline with a decent ending...hazel and jimmy hook up, ellie and sean hook up, toby is still a virgin nerd boy but his friendship with jimmy is restored (toby and jimmy were in on a grade changing scheme that got them both busted)...now the whole day, ellie of course has a hidden tape recorder (she didn't really need to be there, she was there trying to get a story for the school paper) and one of the things she tapes is sean confessing to all the school theft...this of course pisses the others off and they leave her hanging, sean destroys the tape...typical storyline formula, ellie falls for sean and realizes she should not have done that and that her feelings for sean are very intense...they make nicey by the end of the episode and hook up again...

this series obviously doesn't reach the greatness of the original, but i still enjoy it and actually like some of the characters...anyways, discuss!

My God Emma is such an annoying bitch. Most of the females on the show are and none of them are any more then somewhat hot. DAMMIT! There's gotta be more hot Canuck chicks up there! I saw the Breakfast Club episode and man was it bad.

I actually liked 'The Breakfast Club episode'. I mean..yea, I know it was supposed to be a rip off of that, but IMO I still think they did it well. Although it would have been more interesting if they had had Ellie make another tape of it or something.

But still...I like the show, and have been watching since the first season, to bad this season their cutting out the damn pregnancy angle in the US I believe. Damn them!

now that sucks, i was interested in seeing that angle when i first heard about it...by the way, that clip that they show of Spinner and Paige looking at someone in a hospital bed...who is that? Teri? i heard she gets back with that geek-ass domestic abuser...

I read somewhere that the mini-episodes during the Countdown To Degrassi were minor plot points taken from Accidents Will Happen (i.e. Toby changing Jimmy's grades and getting caught).

I don't understand why they won't show it. They showed Marco's coming out and subsequent date, which is just as controversial of a topic as abortion.

well considering there have been at least two episodes where they show Craig and Manny doing everything BUT sex, what are they exactly trying to hide from the kids? kids aren't stupid, they know that if they show Craig starting to unbutton Manny's shirt and she lays back and lets him then the camera fades out that some fucking will be going on...

When Emma had the cops search Sean's car, I figured that it was going to go down an alternate route and have the cops find a few seeds of pot or something.

I did like The Breakfast Club one. But was Emma ever friends with Ellie? I'm assuming she had the tape recorder to help her, and not for a school newspaper story as the wooden acting suggested.

Entertainment Weekly actually had a blurb about the abortion episode, and The N said that it may air toward the end of the season.

Without showing it, it's like The N is saying, "Hey! Have sex all you want because nothing bad ever happens other than your girlfriend breaking up with you because she found out you were getting play on the side."

It could be aired the same way the episode where Ashley does E. Just have one of the actors explain what is going on during the commercial breaks.

the only friend i recall her having is Ashley...you may be right with your Ellie theory, but i seriosuly think she was trying to make a name for her self in the newspaper since journalism seems to be the line of work she plans to pursue in the future and this would be her BIG STORY...

Ahhh... I can see your point.

Her acting was just God damn terrible in that scene, which lead me to believe that her explanation was fake.

you want to see her bad acting skills? review the episode where she cuts herself...she could be the worst actor on the whole show, next to the kid that plays Craig...but she's an awfully pretty girl so i can forgive her...

yeah, the boyfriend (Rick) never came across to me as someone to be scared of, Teri shoulda been able to take him, you know sit on him or some shit...i thought it woulda been better if he actually just straight up beat the shit outta her rather than drop her on a rock, but it IS a kids show so that might have been too much...poor poor Teri, first she has low self-esteem for the entire run of this series for being chunky and all, now she's gonna be a vegetable...

Last episode I saw, the fat girl got pushed down or something and ended up in the hospital by her boyfriend. Never liked her or him anyway.

Yeah, that was on Friday night.

Him accidentally hurting her through the light shove creates a better conflict. Now Spinner and Paige will likely testify against him in court, with them bringing up the past shit that happened, and he'll be there trying to deny it all when all this evidence piles up against him.

I was kind of hoping Terri would die, but I don't think that actually happens.

is there supposed to be a continuation of this storyline, court-wise? i figured that would be the last we see of Rick, since Teri isn't usually a main focal point of the series, if anything she'll be slow and that's just how she is from now on...perhaps canadian members of this board can shed some light...

Didn't Terri used to be smart?

I mean, I know she had low self esteem but didn't they move PAST that in the model episode and didn't they move past Rick when she crushed that flower. What is this crap? Do they even review previous storylines or do they just say "REDO" at the start of each one?

For example, Marco thinks Sean (you know, the guy who stole the laptop from a man dying of cancer) will be good for Ellie (you know, the cutter who really isn't that good at it).

It's like the show is just starting from the beginning each week. I'm waiting for Marco to suddenly get a crush on Liberty or something.

I guess you can justify it by saying that those with low self esteem as one time rarely shed those feelings all the way. And those with low self esteem are most likely to fall into abusive relationships that they keep coming back to.

Is Marco aware of the fact that Sean stole the laptop? I don't seem to remembering him ever being in on things.

The show definitely isn't following a logical plotline at all times, but hey, it's a teen show. I'll let them have a few plotholes if they keep rockin' out these great episodes.

and it IS better than Nickelodeon's Fifteen (if you're old enough to remember that drek)...what i like is that the creative team behind the original series is also behind this one so it's not like someone new is trying to mold Degrassi into THEIR vision (which could be why Star Trek started to fall off after Rodenberry passed)...

the only thing that the N hasn't done right, so far, is with those little mini-episodes they showed during May...i saw one, the one with Jimmy and Toby fudging the grades...those in the know know why they were in saturday detention and why jimmy had animosity towards toby, but those who haven't seen it were probably wondering why the hate was there and why those two were even in there, at least until light was finally shed on it...

This show needs a really evil character that you can really hate. They had it with Paige for a while, and then Manny, and then Sean, but they turned them all good. Rick isn't there enough to count.

i really hate Craig....OH you mean someone EVERYONE would hate! sorry...

Craig is just a fucking putz...dude gets caught for EVERYTHING he does, stealing a car, cheating on Ashley, knocking up Manny, going with Emma to see her dad in some province miles away, "kidnapping" his sister...this is one stupid character...

i actually can't think of one character on that show that currently fits the mold of actually hating them because they're evil, most people just hate them because they're annoying...

They had a good thing going with Sean for a while.

NO redeeming qualities.

And then they had to show his human side or some such bullshit.
