Guest Goodear Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Some of us might remember Shelton's entrance into RAW with the stunning Triple H upset a few months ago mostly for the fact that... hey it was a really big upset. Well, that is true but I also remember it for the little bits of cockiness that Shelton busted out all through the match (much like he did in that Shelton-Haas match but I digress). It really helped him as a character to not only not be afraid of Triple H but also to be all up in his face and almost laughing at the WWE's top guy for years. The in-your-face nature of Benjamin was in effect the next week as well as he made the first move in the Flair mini-program by attacking the guy right in front of general manager Eric Bischoff. This gave Benjamin a hook and something for the crowd to latch onto. The question I put before you is... what happened? Its like Shelton dropped all of that stuff to be... I don't know... compete with Tom Zenk as one of the most bland face on the face of the Earth. He's a gutsy face guy who loves babies and loves fighting the evil but the enitre part of his character that made him unique is gone. Now he's Black Edge and its dissapointing to me on a rather impersonal level. I miss cocky Shelton. Where did he go?
Exslade ZX Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I guess he lost all motivation when he realized they didn't care much about him...when they decided to no longer let him appear on RAW after he has PPV matches.
Hektik Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I have always thought that Benjamin should be a heel. Better yet, he should be a heel on Smackdown. If they had put the effort into making him a heel on Smackdown instead of a face on Raw, he could have been challenging Eddy for the title by Summerslam or Survivior Series.
SamoaRowe Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Well, this is a shame... I really liked his match with Randy Orton at Bad Blood. If they could recapture the flare of his early Raw push, they could have a potential upper-midcarder on their hands. But then I remember they seemingly don't want anyone to get over and make them money.
Lil' Bitch Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I don't know, its weird. I always enjoyed Shelton, his cockiness is pretty much what made me like him to begin with. I don't mind him being a face, but he shouldn't be booked like he's Superman, just keep the cockiness in a manner where people will cheer for him because of it (like Chris Jericho). No Shelton on RAW makes the baby Jesus cry.
Guest Real F'n Show Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I forgot all about Shelton not being on Raw, what with Jericho main eventing and all. Did Shelton even wrestle a match for Heat?
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I'm holding Shelton Benjamins personality for a ransom of $50,000. And to add to the topic, I think the problem last night was they had a 40:00 main event booked, some storyline advancements (HBK gone, Eugene vs. HHH) and the Joe Schmo crap so they had no place for him. They COULD'VE droppe dJericho in the Main Event for benjamin, but people would bitch anyway.
Guest Seven Sins Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 Shelton had a personality? since when?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 His personality went out the door along with the 50 pts. of IQ that you have to lose to be a face.
Zack Malibu Posted June 15, 2004 Report Posted June 15, 2004 I was hoping to have Shelton in the main event last night, because the Bad Blood match with Orton just screamed rematch. What good is booking Shelton to be *thisclose* to the IC Title, only to have him drop his quest for it? He's not the end all and be all of charisma, but his smug demeanor and his "I know I can kick your ass and I'm gonna" facials work for me. He just needs to be fleshed out as more of an actual character as opposed to underdog/occasional heel foil.

It'll just be delayed a week or two no reason, just like after Backlash when he didn't appear. But he was still involved in that feud. I guess we'll just have to wait until next week to see what they do.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Shelton's "mic skills" are pathetic. He's a really good mid-card wrestler, however. He'll never beat Orton for the title, though. See Raw's faith in him by keeping him OFF OF RAW not only the day after Bad Blood but the week after his "feud" with Orton started.

But why did STACY get a match? Just so she'd have an excuse to ask Lita to borrow some elbow pads?
Dangerous K89 Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 Did anybody ever notice Shelton's walk to the ring while he was with Haas? It was bad ass. *imitates Benjamin walk in bedroom*
