Guest Astro Report post Posted June 17, 2004 The Iraqi Conflict: Bombing our Budgets When the conflict in Iraq started President George W. Bush went to Congress and asked them to provide 75 billion dollars for financing the war effort, and eventual rebuilding efforts. Well the war itself was controversial enough, this price tag has caused a stir among American citizens on both sides of the War issue. One group of people say that the 75 billion cost was obscene and excessive by itself, but its timing was auspicious as well. Bush’s financing request came just one week after the US House's approval of a budget that included 500 billion dollars in tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans, per the President’s request. People apposed to the war financing say that the tax breaks will just help the rich avoid paying a fair share of the 75 billion. They feel middle Americans, who are already hurting in these trying financial times, will be asked to take on the bulk of the war financing since the upper class have the new tax breaks protecting them. On the other side of the argument are Bush’s supporters who say that once the numbers are crunched the 75 billion dollar war fund breaks down to a mere $260 per American. The 75 billion only accounts for less than 1% of the economy’s total output for the year, which is quite good, as past wars have been much higher. Vietnam’s was 12%, World War I was 24%, and World War II was 130%. The Bush supporters also note that the poorest Americans will only pay $33 a person, compared to their rich counterparts, who will be asked to pay nearly $5,000 a piece toward financing the war effort. This argument seems to split down the middle based on what your personal finances are, as well as your political affiliations. When I first sat down to research this topic, I wasn’t pleased when I read of the huge amount we spent on an unnecessary war, however once the numbers were broken down, the cost didn’t seem all that bad. America will more than likely recoup the 75 billion thanks to the oil factor alone. Therefore much to my chagrin, I have to side with the Republican argument on this issue. I do look forward to hearing your thoughts though. Thank you.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 "Unnecessary war"? Er..Sadam had WMD that he could have let loose on the east coast within an hour AND he had a hand in 9/11...... Tell me about it. Where has this guy been? Thank goodness that Rumsfeld said some time ago that he knew where they were that moment. I assume the next time he makes a secret visit to Iraq, he'll suprise the entire military and the UN by leading us to them when no other soul could.
Firestarter 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 I'd say something relevant and informative here, but I just read a smug, snarky interview (read "masturbation session") given by DW Bradley, pimping his upcoming game, and it reminded me forcibly that a few years ago, I actually paid good money for that unbelievably, unforgivably wretched pile of festering shit called Wizards & Warriors. What a godawful exercise in puerility, incompetence, preadolescent subhumour and completely unjustifiable overweening conceit. If there were any justice, the man would've had his fingers broken joint by slowly splintering joint so he'd never again inflict another line of reeking, gangrene-riddled code on an innocent and trusting world. ... I just remembered the voice acting. Holy Mary Mother of God, the voice acting. Oh, I'm going to cry. May he burn in hellfire for his sins, and may he get to it right speedily. Words can't express the seething hatred and loathing I feel for that revolting creature and his shrinkwrapped excrescences.

The first Resident Evil game featured such bad voice acting that I was pretty much laughing through all of the "dramatic" parts. It was horrible, LOL. The game was cool though, besides that one element.
Guest INXS Report post Posted June 17, 2004 Ah, it's "ruin a thread" time. You know, moderators should really take a dim view of posters who deliberately go out of their way to post random things. If you don't have anything constructive, or at least ON TOPIC to add you shouldn't really bother to post.

Back when I was a kid there was this Choose-Your-Own-Adventure brand of books called "Wizards, Warriors & You." Basically you got to be either character and fight bad guys. My favorite part of the book was flipping through to see all the brutal ways you would die, should you choose the wrong paths. I only had 3-4 books, and I wish I had more of them when I was a kid. Oh, and we're going to be anal about this thread, shouldn't it be placed in "Get Your Learn On"?...
