Michrome 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2004 The main way to make the spotfests seem important is to have them striving for some goal. ROH got around the seemingly meaningless nature of a lot of their matches by making a rankings system, which TNA started doing too recently. I don't know if TNA is still doing it. I think ROH is about to put in a points system, with points for wins and negative points for losses, all building up to title shots, etc. I think if TNA used something like that for their juniors the matches wouldn't seem so pointless. There has to be a reason to care about who wins.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted June 19, 2004 TNA has rankings on their website actually.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2004 Yeah, but they seem arbitrary as hell, and don't seem to actually mean anything concrete.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted June 19, 2004 Eh, it's pretty much how it is in NJPW as well. At least they make the attempt to do it. Better than nothing.
Astro101 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 TNA had nice descriptions of the ranked guys. Got lazy and just puts up the names now, I guess.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted June 20, 2004 I don't see it. I really don't. I look at them similarly to how I looked at the lucha six-tags that WCW used in 1998 a lot. Fun to look at, but pointless. That's true, but there is nothing wrong with "fun to look at", if they are providing something deeper later on in the show. The point of the criticism of me was calling these matches shitty spotfests, which they, as you admit, tend to be. -=Mike Ahh...the shitty spotfest complaint. As I've said before, they're probably to lure in fans of Mexican wrestling, and since you're not one Mike, they don't care what you think. Neither do I. hmm.... And you make the point to show that, eh? Ignoring it would prove your point better. These matches don't lead to anything. Is Garza getting an X Title match? Nope --- that is still Styles v Kash. These matches should MEAN something. TNA can make "rankings" on their site all day long --- the rankings seem to have as much bearing on the booking as the old PWI rankings did. Quite frankly, I've seen these matches A LOT. I've seen more of them than I care to count. The 6-sided ring doesn't suddenly make it a new and fresh match. It was OK. It was nothing great. I gave it, I think, **1/2 --- the rating ALL of these matches tend to get. Why not give Sabin a one-on-one match --- he is more than capable of working with Garza to produce a match better than the spotfest. -=Mike
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Fucking shit. I go to watch Impact on Comcast Sports Net, and big surprise, IT'S NOT ON. What's on? A baseball replay? Sports news show? An infomercial for the Extreme Ab Makeover, becauuse God knows it can't just be an Ab Makeover, it has to be EXTREME.

You act as if you expect the network to have any more faith to them than they have towards other infomercials. -=Mike
Astro101 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 I expect them to just 'cause they have the FSN name labeled on the show.

This treatment was something I warned about when the deal was officialized. FSN doesn't care about the show --- only that the checks for the time slot clear. -=Mike

I think the 12 midnight thing doesn't go in effect until July. Sorry you were confused.

Lay it on the table, because I think many believe you want TNA to fall on their faces and fail and if this is the case, just come clean so your stance is clear. If you really do want them to suceed then please state that too so you can clarify your percieved negativity as realistic frustration with a product that you want to see suceed but feel are going about it the wrong way. Which is it?

Which is it? Slap, if their product doesn't improve, then I wouldn't care if they succeeded or failed. An "alternative" that is not better than the WWE does nobody any good. I'm not one of those who thinks an alternative is intrisically beneficial. A shit-flavored cola isn't good because it's an alternative to Coke. It's still a shit-flavored soda. TNA, as I've always said, has a lot of potential --- and they're doing a bang-up job of pissing all over it to maintain a JJ ego stroke and, quite frankly, a horrible "WCW V 2.0" vibe. -=Mike

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted June 20, 2004 That's not much of an answer, when you got down to it. Still kind of ambiguous. Not mildly ambiguous. If they improve, I'd love to see them succeed. If they stay where they are, their failure will hardly hurt me. -=Mike
