Dammit I hate the A's ownership. I mean I understand that they will never be able to spend like the Yanks & RedSox, but Schott refusing to grab a good player for the bullpen is ridiculous. The Bullpen is gonna crush the A's this year if they don't do do something about it. Beane had another good trade setup.........stupid Schott.

Oh and the A's FINALLY beat the Angels......WHOO~!

What games are you folks planning to attend this summer? I just got tickets for the first part of a double header at "America's Most Beloved Ballpark" Fenway Park (According to the Fenway Park brochure).

Well, I have been to about six A's game already. I was planning on going this saturday for the A's/Giants game, but I have something I have been planning on Saturday night, and I am not sure if I would be able to make it back to Sacramento in time, so I may have to skip it. My guess is by the end of the year I will have gone too approx 18-25 A's games. And perhaps a couple Giants games. I love PacBell Park, I wish the A's could play there~!

So anybody planning to see any major league ball this summer?

Hell yes. I've already been to Minute Maid twice this year, including the epic Prior v. Clemens game a couple of weeks ago. That was a sweet game to be at; Minute Maid has never been so quiet with a SRO crowd there...ha ha. I'll probably hit a couple more games there before season's end.

And I will be in Arlington for Rangers/A's the last weekend of July, probably that Saturday night. I haven't been to the Ballpark in Arlington, er, Ameriquest Field (?) in several years and it's time I go back.

Anyone else not quite see the connection between watching the Expos and seeing a major league baseball game?

Well I'm seeing at least one major league team (The Houston Astros) and who are you to say that "Jurassic" Carl Everett isn't a a major league player  ?

I just went straight to bed after that Cubs/Cards game last night, and I got very little sleep thinking about what just happened to our team.

WOW

Although, on the plus side, Steve Kline gave LaRussa the middle finger, making for massive entertainment value. We'll get 'em tonight.

I'd like to try to go see the Marlins at some point this year. I think September is their fan month, so they run all kinds of ticket specials (Buy one get one free, Buy one, get one for a buck, etc.) They ran some great specials down the stretch last year, and had some wild games too. Plus, Pro-Player is a really nice stadium, and the ticket prices aren't bad to begin with, considering they have a fun team this year.

I'd also like to get to Tampa to see the D-Rays, especially when the Red Sox are in town. The Eye-Sore isn't that good of a park, but the D-Rays have a half-way decent team, the Red Sox come there, and I can boo Fred McGriff.

I'm going to a couple Twins games on July 21st and 22nd when the D-Rays come to Minneapolis. The Twins will make the playoffs again this year, simply because they own the White Sox.

I'd like to make my way to Wrigley once this season, but I doubt that'll happen. I'm more likely to go to Cincy and check out the ballpark since I haven't been there yet.

I've been to about six Indy Indians (AAA) games here locally and I'll hit up a few more before their season is up.

I've been to three Giants games this year already, (2 losses to the Pirates and Bums, and the recent one-hit shutout by Schmidt on Sunday).

I'll be attending the As/Giants game on Sunday. Unfortunatley the game is in Oakland. I hate the Coliseum/'Net or whatever the hell it's called. I swear I'm gonna kill the guys who bring those drums to every fucking game and pound on them at every possible moment.

Ya wouldn't want your fans to show some passion, rather just talk on your cell phone all game right? Anyways the drummers haven't been there since 2002. Hopefully all rubber chickens from Giants fans will be confiscated.

Oh and btw I think Sunday will be the '89 World Champion A's reunion. Highlights and memories of the A's whipping the shit out of the Giants. Have fun.

Man, I thought Bay Area fans were easy going. Looks like some of the antics of the NY/Boston/Philly fans have rubbed off on you.

Here's a fact or fiction for you, The Expos will average more then 10,000 people in attendance (This is Puerto Rico and Montreal attendance btw)

I must've been thinking about that OTHER year you guys didn't make it out of the first round. At least we've got people showing up to our games. Ah, but those two or three who DO show up at the "Net", they're passionate, right?

I never understood why an A's fan could hate the Giants. I can see being indifferent, but Oakland has been a vastly superior franchise since moving west. Just wave your four rings in our faces. End of discussion. There's no real reason for it.

I hate the As, but only because of the rings. After that, there isn't much to care about.

By that logic, Yankee fans shouldn't hate the Red Sox.

Correct. I'd treat them like worms if I were you. But that's just me. I just never got the Sox/Yanks "rivalry".

Rain-out

They only had one rain out? In Miami?

So far, I suppose.

It rains a lot down here, but usually not for a long period of time. The Marlins get consistant rain-delays, but it rains hard for a half-hour, maybe 45 minutes, and then it stops and gets sunny again.

Wild Weather.

And yes, to understand the Yanks/Sawx rivalry, you'd have to live in the corresponding areas.

Oooo yes NO ONE shows up to A's games. None. Zero....give or take 2.2 million. It's amazing the A's even draw as well as they do with an ownership that shits all over it's fanbase and the stadium it plays in every chance it gets.

My hatred for the Giants was very slow and steady, in fact they were my N.L. team for a number of years up until 1997 when McGwire was traded to the Cardinals. There are a couple of reasons why I hate them but the main reason came in 2000 when Peter McGowan was the "annonymous owner" quoted in Sports Illustrated in the article that first brought up contraction and he suggested the A's be one of the teams that should be eliminated even though the A's at that time were just turning it around. So fuck him and fuck the Giants.

The three-way deal to send Beltran to the Astros and Dotel to the A's has been killed because A's owner Steve Schott refuses to add the payroll for Dotel even though just this past weekend his said he'd add payroll to improve the bullpen. Fucking asshole.

And in doing so the A's may have just pushed Beltran into Boston according to a few papers

"The Royals were said to be furious that the deal collapsed and now are believed to be shopping Beltran to Boston instead."

"The Royals then began shopping Beltran all over again, and industry sources said the Boston Red Sox might have positioned themselves to acquire him."

If this were to happen Johnny Damon would be moved to LF, Manny to DH, and Ortiz to 1B. Beltran would take over CF for the Red Sox. It would most likely cost the Red Sox both Kevin Youkilis and Kelly Shoppach. However, if the Red Sox are able to work out a long term deal with Beltran and then resign Tek at the end of the season I wouldn't be opposed to this move at all. Of course alot of it has to do on how long Pokey Reese is going to miss with his jammed wrist.

meanwhile.. the new Baseball America has a good article on George Lindsey.

And here's his numbers on "expected runs"

0 on, 0 outs: .46

0 on, 1 out: .24

0 on, 2 outs: .10

runner on first, 0 outs: .81

runner on first, 1 out: .50

runner on first, 2 outs: .22

runner on second, 0 outs: 1.19

runner on second, 1 out: .67

runner on second, 2 outs: .30

runner on third, 0 outs: 1.39

runner on third, 1 out: .98

runner on third, 2 outs: .36

runners on first and second, 0 outs: 1.47

runners on first and second, 1 out: .94

runners on first and second, 2 outs: .40

runners on first and third, 0 outs: 1.94

runners on first and third, 1 out: 1.12

runners on first and third, 2 outs: .53

runners on second and third, 0 outs: 1.96

runners on second and third, 1 out: 1.56

runners on second and third, 2 outs: .69

bases loaded, 0 outs: 2.22

bases loaded, 1 out: 1.64

bases loaded, 2 outs: 82

the article mentioned the following from his studies:

- Sac Bunts reduce the chance of scoring

- Teams should go for the double play with the bases loaded and no outs. Unless the game is tied or they have a one run lead, then they should put the infield in to get the lead runner

- Intentional Walks lead to more runs

then again, most of us, other than most managers, already know this. :D

Good trade for all teams involved. Although I doubt Dotel is in Oakland after this season. He's going to be another player that in the end they just won't be able to afford.

I guess this puts Biggio back at second and Kent over to third.

Highly unlikely, I'd say. Kent said yesterday that he'd rather pitch than play third base.

The more likely scenario would be Biggio going to left, Berkman to right, and Jason Lane back to the bench.

Time for the Red Sox to focus on getting some pitching. I don't really trust Freddy Garcia. Hopefully they can get a good starter though.
