JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 H2WRESTLING DEBUT EVENT THIS SATURDAY CANCELED AFTER VENUE PULLS OUT OF SHOW DUE TO HARASSING PHONE CALL by Mike Johnson @ 4:12:00 PM on 6/23/2004 H2Wrestling's debut event this weekend in Somerville, MA has been canceled, postponing the debut of the new promotion headed by Court Bauer and Teddy Hart until Saturday 7/31 at a new venue to be named. The promotion has also secured a venue, which it did not name, for Saturday 8/28 in Boston, MA. H2Wrestling learned late Monday afternoon that the Somerville Theatre had suddenly refused to allow them to hold a live wrestling event at the venue, forcing them to look for a new venue with less than a week's notice. H2Wrestling sources indicated that they believed another promoter "harassed" the building, which led to the cancellation. The venue did not return repeated phone calls and emails from PWInsider.com for comment. H2Wrestling sources also stated they are looking into legal remedies for the situation. The decision by the building caught H2 Management completely by surprise as building management had been in regular contact with H2 up until Monday afternoon. The promotion had just paid for local advertising in the market, which will still run as scheduled despite the cancellation. H2Wrestling had attempted to find an alternative venue in the Massachusetts area, but was unable to find one in the short timespan that would have been suitable for their purposes filming the event for International distribution. The promotion also looked at sites in Rhode Island. At one point, there was even talk of trying to relocate the event to the ECW Arena in Philadelphia at the last minute, but the costs involved with changing all the booked airline flights were too much for the promotion to absorb. They finally threw the towel in on Wednesday afternoon. The promotion had announced on 6/17 that they had moved the debut from Boston, MA at the Roxy to Somerville, MA after issues came up with the Roxy's management. H2Wrestling will be releasing an official statement later in regard to the situation. Any fans who need refund information should check out www.H2Wrestling.com. The promotion intends on making good with all fans who purchased tickets in advance and will be making an announcement about that shortly. H2Wrestling's Court Bauer noted that if there was more time, they could have worked out a solution, but they just didn't have enough leadtime to work things out. He also noted that there would be additional talent, including Homicide and Sabu, added to 7/31 as a "make good" to the fans.
LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 From H2Wrestling.com: We at H2 are absolutely disgusted to announce that due to the cowardly act of another promoter, we are forced to postpone our first show until July 31, 2004 in the Boston area. A paranoid promoter took the dishonorable route of harassing the Somerville Theater until they dropped our show, and as a result we will be postponing our first show until July 31st. H2 and its promoting team worked around the clock to find a replacement but it wasn't possible at this late hour. We apologize sincerely to the fans and we will gladly refund you your money for 6/26 (email: [email protected]) or you may use these tickets as a general admission ticket for the 7/31 event where fans holding 6/26 tickets for admission will receive one free three hour DVD for their understanding of the situation. It is our number one priority to take care of all of you, and we will do so. We encourage ANYONE who has bought tickets or was even thinking of attending this weekend’s show to email us their thoughts, comments, complaints, etc. at [email protected]. WE WILL ANSWER YOU. Also you can expect a FULL STATEMENT FROM BOTH EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS COURT BAUER & TEDDY HART AS EARLY AS THIS WEEKEND WITH THEIR COMPLETE UNCENSORED THOUGHTS ON THE PEOPLE WHO CAUSED THIS SITUATION. We are absolutely committed to giving you the best show we possibly can, and we will do so. Finally, it's with great disappointment that this individual cost our crew including those in the ring and those outside of it a pay day and opportunity to give fans their monies worth, but this person will be unable to deny us this opportunity. We would also like to apologize to the 70 children and their families coming from a national charity who were invited as our special guests, as well as some special friends from some private charities for having to postpone our activities with them. We would also like to apologize to our fans on the NY bus trip as well as the fans from 8 different states and the United Kingdom who were planning on joining us June 26th. To these fans we extend our offer of a refund of your money for 6/26 (email: [email protected]) or you may use these tickets as a general admission ticket for the 7/31 event where fans holding 6/26 tickets for admission will receive one free three hour DVD for their understanding of the situation. Already, H2 has signed for 7/31 as a special bonus to our fans... "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE and the Boston area return of SABU. We will be announcing very shortly the long-term Boston area home and location for the July 31st show at www.H2Wrestling.com. In the meantime, we encourage our fans to contact the Somerville Theater and ask them why they won’t let you see H2. Also feel free to ask who called the Theater demanding them to not allow wrestling there. We at H2 feel that you have a right to know, and a right to see the wrestling shows that YOU WANT TO SEE. We know wrestling fans are passionate, and you deserve an answer. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us as we will not lie to you or insult your intelligence. - - Speak Up - - Melvin Freeman Somerville Theater
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 23, 2004 damn. Court just can't get a break when it comes to wrestling. Boston seems to be bad news though. Didn't something like this happen to ROH as well?
Tawren 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Didn't something like this happen to ROH as well? Kind of, but different. 5/22 was moved out of the Armory and into a tent due to the army mobilizing and needing to use the Armory, and 6/24 has been moved due to a promoter not wanting to be associated with RF. This is a pretty big blow to H2, and surprisingly despite my hatred of Teddy I was looking forward to results for this show. It really bugs me that this shit (promoter harassing building to cancel it) is happening.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 23, 2004 I meant before the tent and RF thing. Didn't they want to hold War of the Wire (I think it was that show) in Boston, but they had to move it?
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 I meant before the tent and RF thing. Didn't they want to hold War of the Wire (I think it was that show) in Boston, but they had to move it? War of the Wire was originally scheduled to be in a middle school. I think they had to move it after parent complaints.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2004 Ah. Well nevermind then. ... Yes, it seems you're right. Over on the ROH forums, some guy said this happened to " Just about every Boston show in the last year."
Guest TDinDC1112 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Yup, just about every Boston ROH show has been majorly messed with.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 War of the Wire was supposed to be held at some middle school in, I think, either Lowell or Boston, but was then moved to Framingham State College...which worked out wonderfully, because I routinely go to Framingham, a good 45-minute drive, to see my girlfriend and her family. We made it a date, since we usually go see New England Championship Wrestling together when they're in Framingham. Too bad War of the Wire sucked until the final three matches... thuganomics 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 This F'N sucks. I was seriously looking forward to this show. I just pray this isn't Court having money problems and screwing around.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Good news for me. Now that it's moved, I should be able to go to the show. I was busy this weekend.

Guest bort Report post Posted June 24, 2004 I would not be surprised if it was the NECW promoter who has been calling the bulidings, really he is one of the few that run that area often and in a recent interview he didnt express alot of love for ROH, he bitched before about the way they used Alex Arion
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2004 Why would they stop H2 from having the show because of phone calls from someone not connected with them? If you're being harrased you contact the police, you dont just cancel an agreement. Doesnt make much sense to me, but someone do please explain. If I was cynical I'd say this is an excuse because they couldnt afford the venue.
Guest bort Report post Posted June 24, 2004 It happens all the time in wrestling, the venue that they were to run would have been much cheaper than the roxy, Its hard to say what the real story is when dealing with court
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted June 24, 2004 They should head back to Flordia to capitalize on teh MLW fanbase that is most likely STARVED for good wrestling. (Haven't seen NWAFL but MXPW sucks...)

On 5/22, I believe that was the date, they did. NECW was in Framingham, RoH in Boston. About half of the usual sized NECW crowd showed. But I don't think Sheldon would stoop that low. He did get pissed about RoH breaking the deal, and I doubt he'd want more competition that features better wrestling than his shows, but he also seems to be extremely respectful towards the business, its workers, and its fans. I wouldn't put it past Danger Boy Alfredo or one of the other schmucks that run the NEWA/RIWA, though. They're known to play dirty pool.
