Your summer concert list

Speaking of Cannibal Corpse/Black Dahlia Murder/<insert local band here> I'm going to see them tomorrow in Montreal. I like CC, haven't heard much BDM, and I can't remember who the opening band is, so I'll probably enjoy it. Well, hopefully I do since that's the ONLY concert I'm going to this summer.

Just be glad Barnes won't be there. Has anyone heard the new Six Feet Under stuff? Oh my god it's terrible. It's terrible by Six Feet Under standards. I mean bad.

Turns out the band playing in Montreal is Hands of Death.

::raises arms in a "who the...." manner::

But yeah...I've heard the new SFU stuff. I almost vomited (not in the good way). I don't mind Barnes when he's going low on the vocals but when he does that squeal, I just want to puncture my ear drums. Corpsegrinder on the other hand is a much, MUCH better vocalist.

I was hoping more people agreed with me about that. They're still cheesy horror movie gore, but at least ol George is good at it. Plus he's crosseyed.

Barnes looks like he has mange lately. He might, actually.

I listened to America The Brutal on a sampler after the album came out. I will never listen to SFU again.

There's worse tracks on the album, if you can fathom it.. Every metalhead has at least one friend who likes Six Feet Under. That's how I heard it, and after the first track, I persisted only to see just how bad it could possibly get. It's really beyond description. It's just so awful, and fails miserably at every feeling they try to create. If their goal was to be the cheesiest death band with the worst production, and then get stoned and drunk and not even try, then yes, it would be successful. Sadly, they're going for a "serious" addition to their catalogue, and it's fucking comedy.

I really enjoyed the concert I went to last night.

Opening band was Hands of Death (I think, we got there somewhat late, but that's who was on the ticket). Pretty good. They had a fairly hot female singer doing death growls. Hot in the "I'm pretty sure she'd bite my penis off" kind of way.

The next band was Severed Savior. I really liked them even if they took forever to set their shit up and do sound check. EXCELLENT musicians. They made me question my guitar playing ability for sure. I'll definitely pick up one of their CDs in due time.

After that was Black Dalhia Murder. My friend made me almost urinate on myself when he said, "What is this, an Emo band?" He was right, they looked horribly emo. I dug their set though, even if it was only 5 or 6 songs long. There are a lot of little emo kids in Montreal. Such a shame.

Finally the band I went to see came on, Cannibal Corpse. Awesome performance. I almost got headbutted a couple times by the headbangers around me. I haven't heard their new album so I wasn't familiar with some of their songs, but over all it was awesome. I was in awe of everyone in the band, especially Alex Webster. That dude can play bass like a motherfucker.

I enjoyed the whole show. Unfortunately, since my back is messed up, I have trouble standing for an extended period of time. I stood for about 5 hours, and by the time Cannibal Corpse came on I was half dead. It reminded me of why I stopped going to concerts. I always look like I'm drunk or really high after concerts, but I'm just in tons of pain. This one was worth it though.

3 Colours Red were awesome, as I was expecting, and the new stuff sounded incredible live. Also, the crowd was small, but very loud all night, which made the gig a lot of fun. The support act, Bitch Alert, were pretty good too, in spite of their awful name, and the lead singer was damn hot, which was a bonus.

Saw The Dillinger Escape Plan last night in some tiny little banquet/bingo hall type thing in Louisville. The place got totally destroyed, which is the theme on this tour. Trashing small venues.

Also, those interested in grind, remember the name Daughters!

I'm seeing Sonic Youth on the 1st of September, but my dire financial situation at the moment has resulted in me missing/having no chance of seeing Mission of Burma, Iron and Wine, Deerhoof, TV on the Radio, Sufjan Stevens, Shellac, Flaherty/Corsano Duo and more. After 1.5 years of being able to attend any show that tickled my fancy this comes as a bit of a bugger.

I went to Warped Tour last Friday. Next year I have to go to two shows because there were so many bands I wanted to see that I had to miss.

On Sunday, it was Chimera and Machine Head. Very, very cool, as this was the 10th Anniversary of the Burn My Eyes album. They played the entire CD, in order.

And on Thursday, it was Soil and Static-X. Similar to Drowning Pool, Soil's great at being mediocre and heavy, but just don't grip you live. Static were fun.

On the 19th, I'll possibly be seeing Nightwish and Lullacry. That is, if I don't go meet Lloyd Kaufman instead.

21st is Silvertide doing a headlining show. Going to it just for the hell of it.

And the 25th is Nonpoint, and the 26th is Ozzfest.

Goatwhore is playing in Chicago on 9-27 at the House of Blues. I'll probably go to that. Deicide and Cattle Decapitation are opening.

When that show comes to Philly in September, it lists Deicide as headlining and Goatwhore supporting. Are they switching off?

I'm not too sure if I'll make my way out for those shows. I'm getting into more heavy-heavy metal, but these guys may be a tad bit too heavy for me at the moment.

Goatwhore's sick. The best american Black Metal band there is. That DEP tour I just saw is going through Philly, I think. It's a really eclectic mix of bands, and it's guaranteed to be in a small venue, which is incredibly fun.

Goatwhore, while being amazingly harsh and brutal at times, can be suprisingly accessible in some of their songs. This is particularly true on their first album "Eclipse Of Ages Into Black" since this album shows a much more black metal face than Grind. If you're looking to get into heavier metals, and are interested in NA harshness, might as well start at the top...

Deicide, I know nothing about other than their lead man is a douche and the one song I heard is complete ass.

Cattle Decapitation is a scattergrind band as far as what I've heard.

You should go for Goatwhore.

Deicide is just an old deathy band that's still tunkering around, as far as I'm concerned. Goatwhore is the future. If Deicide headlines, I'll probably go home early to beat traffic.

Got back from Prince at the Fleet Center. Maceo Parker opened, was a damn good opening act but played for 10-15 minutes too long. Then Prince got on and blew the roof off the place for 2+ hours. Played everyone of his hits (Besides the ones he doesn't play because he's a Jehovah's witness), the only noticable omission was Diamonds and Pearls. But still it was the best concert I've ever been to.

Wednesday night, I saw Judas Priest/Slayer live in Toronto. I wasn't disappointed in Slayer for the third time around, as they played amazing. Araya vocals were shaddy during Mandatory Suicide and Dead Skin Mask, but other than that, excellent. I got to hear all the songs I wanted (Disciple, Bloodline, Angel of Death, Raining Blood, War Ensamble, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide) ****

Judas Priest was amazing, and I was surprised that Halford can still scream into the mic so loudly. Opening song was The Hellion/Electric Eye as Halford appeared out of the eye, which was cool. During the encore, Halford came out onto the stage on a motorcycle, and sang Living After Midnight. Judas Priest did an acoustic version of Diamonds and Rust. Highlights songs were The Hellion/Electic Eye, Diamonds and Rust, Beyond The Realms of Death, Victim of Changes, and all of their popular songs. I left when they sang Turbo Lover since I can not stand that song. ****1/2

Tonight was Rush.

Minus seeing Neil Peart doing a drum solo ruining 99% of people chances of being a drummer, his solo was amazing. The full 3 hours of Rush including the full 22 minute version of 2112 and Xanadu on the same bill made me extremley happy. No Closer to the Heart or Fly By Night, but Subdivisions, Limelight, Roll The Bones, YYZ, Red Barchetta One Little Victory, The Trees, The Spirit of the Radio, and three cover songs, The Seeker, Crossroads and Summertime Blues were played as others as well. During 2112, Alex started to sniff into the mic, saying that Toronto smelled great. Another highlight a few rows a head of me and my friends, seeing some one on an acid trip is hilarious. Stringed out hippy dancing like some one on acid, while mainting his beer in one hand, not spilling, was quite funny, until security takes him away.

Saw the Who August 9th at the Hollywood Bowl. Best show i've been to. Daltrey can still go vocally, which was great. Good crowd. The collective mark out ar the beginning of "Baba O'Riley" was AWESOME.
