JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 So Trik Davis, Ian Rotten, and Nate Webb were all added to the show? No Wifebeater, Chuck Hogan, or 2 Tuff Tony? And Necro going out in the first round has to be considered a surprise. Delirious turning on Sydal? Cool. A Whitmer/Homicide match coming up? Eh.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Official results: IWA Mid-South Wrestling presented night one of the King of the Death Matches 2004 on Friday, June 25th at the Community Center Gym in Oolitic, Indiana. Here's what went down... 1. DANNY DANIELS & BJ WHITMER def. MATT SYDAL & DELIRIOUS (w/ Daizee Haze) in the opening contest. During the closing moments of the match, Sydal accidentally hit Delirious with a leg lariat, which caused Delirious to refuse Sydal's subsequent attempt to tag out. Delirous lost control and wound up grabbing Daizee by the hair and ramming her head-first into the ring post. With Sydal's attention focused on Daizee, Whitmer and Daniels were able to take advantage and score the victory. 2. CM PUNK def. RAY GORDY in non-tournament action. 3. CHRIS HERO def. "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON with a standing version of the Hangman's Clutch. 4. "Low Life" LOUIE RAMOS def. "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE in a Barbed Wire Boards Match when BJ WHITMER hit the ring and gave Homicide an exploder suplex through one of the barbed wire boards propped up in the corner. Hero attempted to hit the ring to make the save on Homicide, but was stopped on his way by RAY GORDY. Whitmer stated on the mic that he still has an issue with Homicide over breaking his nose at the 2003 KOTDM, and asked for a match on Saturday night against him. DAVE PRAZAK responded by pointing out that Hero and Gordy were involved in this situation as well. All four men agreed to battle on night two of KOTDM in a tag team bout-- Hero & Homicide vs. Whitmer & Gordy. 5. RYAN BOZ def. SMOKEY C in a Barbed Wire Boards Match with a northern lights suplex off the top rope through a barbed wire board set up between chairs. 6. MANSLAUGHTER def. TRIK DAVIS in a Thumbtack Death Match. 7. TANK def. DERANGED in a Four Corners of Pain Match (barbed wire, thumbtacks, mouse traps, and light tubes). Tank scored the fall after seating Deranged in the corner, placing a light tube covered board over his face, and giving him a running avalanche. 8. IAN ROTTEN def. "Spyder" NATE WEBB in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match with a cross armed brainbuster. 9. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. DYSFUNCTION in a Two out of Three Log Cabins of Glass Match, with the deciding fall scored after a Boot Camp off the 2nd rope. 10. MAD MAN PONDO def. JC BAILEY in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match. LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 So whose everyone picking to win? I'll go with Corp. If he doesn't win, then Pondo's my pick.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 I wouldn't be surprised if Toby Klein won, the crowd loved him after his match against Necro Butcher last year.
Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Some notes on the no-shows, as well as Necro going out with a bang as he loses four teeth in his match with Klein. - - - - - * 2 Tuff Tony's absence was due to work in California concerning the Backyard Wrestling video game. * Ian gave the fans the truth about Wifebeater, as he was unable to attend due to a wedding that he THOUGHT was next weekend, but actually was this weekend. * Hollywood Chuck Hogan was simply a no-show. Trik Davis was in the building and stepped up to the plate to fill the last slot. * Necro Butcher hit a rana off the apron to the floor on Mr. Insanity during their match, only to top that move moments later with a front flip senton off the top rope, over the ring post, to the floor, which caused Necro to KNOCK OUT FOUR OF HIS OWN TEETH upon impact. It was all captured by our pals at SMV!
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Too bad Necro is out first round. He's one of the best deathmatch workers there is. Wouldn't have minded to see Klein/Necro later on. I have to go with Corp to win it all. He's been working for Ian forever, and hasn't won one of these yet. If not him, Klein.
Guest Aecas Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Damn I didn;t expect Necro to go out in round one. Hmmm.....taking things into account I'm going to back Corp to win this year as well. However I'd still be more than happy to see Toby Klein win this thing. I love that man
Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Results are starting to come in for Night Two, with Delirious defeating Matt Sydal for the Light Heavyweight Title, and Corporal Robinson winning his first KOTDM Tournament, going over Toby Klein in the finals in a House of Pain Glass Match or something like that. Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Yes! Delirious wins the lightheavyweight title! I only wish I had gone to the show.
Guest Aecas Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Well its good to hear that Corp won it, and its also good to hear that Toby went all the way to the finals. I shall definitely be picking this up.
Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Sucks that Necro, Homicide, and Bailey went out in the first round, but sounds decent anyway. Anybody have official results for night 2?
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 IWA Mid-South Wrestling presented night two of the King of the Death Matches 2004 tournament on Saturday night, June 26th, at the Community Center Gym in Oolitic, Indiana. Here's what went down... 1. MsCHIF def. MICKIE KNUCKLES & DAIZEE HAZE in a women's division three-way. During the closing moments of the match, DELIRIOUS made his way to ringside, which took the referee's attention. As MsChif was about to give Mickie the Desecrator, Daizee hit the ropes to break it up, and got green mist to the eyes as she charged toward her. MsChif landed the Desecrator as the referee turned around to count the fall. MATT SYDAL rushed to ringside to check on Daizee, who was scheduled to be in his corner in the second match of the night stemming from Delirious ramming her into the ring post the previous night. Sydal rushed Daizee back to the locker room as several IWA staff attempted to wash the mist out of her eyes. 2. DELIRIOUS def. MATT SYDAL with the Chemical Imbalance II after just over fifteen minutes of action to win the IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship. This match saw a much more intense Delirious, who went to work on Sydal's injured arm/wrist for the duration of the bout. 3. CHRIS HERO & "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE def. BJ WHITMER & RAY GORDY (w/ Jim Fannin) after a Cop Killa from Homicide on Gordy. 4. "Low Life" LOUIE RAMOS def. RYAN BOZ in an Unlucky Eleven Staple Gun Match where the winner was determined by which wrestler was able to staple six dollar bills to the body of his opponent. 5. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. IAN ROTTEN in a Ring Ropes Wrapped In Barbed Wire/Fluorescent Light Tube/Pool Of Rubbing Alcohol Match following a Boot Camp into the pool of alcohol, with light tubes and barbed wire covering it. Rotten was forced to swallow a mouthful of rubbing alcohol in the process of taking the maneuver. 6. TANK was scheduled to face MANSLAUGHTER in the next second round match, but MANSLAUGHTER did not make it to the ring for the match due to, very unprofessionally, walking out on the show earlier in the evening. IAN ROTTEN got on the microphone and explained to the fans what happened, and suggested that now no promoters will ever be able to count on Manslaughter, and he just cost himself any future in wrestling. Ian left it up to the fans as to whether Tank would get a bye into round three, or DERANGED would get a second chance in the tournament, in a rematch against Tank from the first round. The fans voted for the rematch, and got it. The match saw Tank defeat Deranged a second night in a row. 7. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN def. JC BAILEY with a Death Valley Driver onto Electrified Fluorescent Light Tubes. After Klein severely burned the face of Mad Man Pondo by stapling a highly flammable type of paper to his face and setting it on fire at KOTDM night one, Pondo was forced to pull out of the tournament, and was replaced by his first round opponent, JC Bailey, who would get a second chance in the tournament. Klein, who was by many counts the tournament's "MVP," proved to be too much for Bailey to overcome. 8. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. "Low Life" LOUIE RAMOS in a Fans Bring The Weapons Match to advance to the finals of the tournament. 9. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN def. TANK in a Fans Bring the Weapons Match to advance to the finals of the tournament. Klein made Tank tap after wrapping barbed wire across his mouth. After the match (and strong showing in the tournament), Tank was given a "Please come back" chant from the IWA fans. 10. CORPORAL ROBINSON def. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN in the finals of the tournament, a 200+ Light Tube House of Pain Glass Death Match. The bout saw both men battle toward the back of the Oolitic Gym, toward a gigantic Light Tube Mansion (it was far from being one of the smaller "log cabins"), set up below a ledge along the back wall. Both men battled with chairs on the ledge until Klein was able to send Robinson from the ledge, crashing down onto the mansion. A cover which followed saw Robinson amazingly kick out, to the delight of the crowd on hand. The two made their way back toward the ring to conclude the match with a Boot Camp on a pile of tubes set up on the canvas in the center of the ring, which earned Corp his first King of the Death Matches crown in five years of active tournament competition. Robinson held onto the Cobra Clutch after landing the legsweep, as the referee checked Klein's arm, which dropped three times to signal Robinson's victory. The event was filmed with three cameras (including locker room interviews) for home video release by Smart Mark Video. Commentary was handled by Dave Prazak, Nate Webb, Mark Wolf, Chris Hero, and Matt Sydal. IWA will take the remainder of the summer months off from live events at the non air conditioned Community Center Gym in Oolitic. The next IWA events will be 7/23 in Lafayette, IN at the National Guard Armory (5220 East 200 South), and 7/31 in Highland, IN at the Linoln Center (235 Hoosier Avenue). Keep your eyes peeled to www.smartmarkvideo.com during the coming days for information on the videotape release of the tournament, as well as the 3+ hour Q&A session from Saturday afternoon. Call the IWA hotlines at 502-569-1701 in Louisville and 630-585-3958 in Chicago. www.iwamidsouthwrestling.com www.midwestwrestling.com
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Weird about Manslaughter walking out. I don't even know who he is. They should have just had Bailey beat Pondo on night one. On the IWA boards someone said the Hero/Cide vs. Whitmer/Gordy tag match and the LHW matches were both very good. No more IWA shows for a month! Dammit! Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Maybe Pondo being burned that badly wasn't what was to happen? Maybe he was really supposed to go to the next round but really had to withdraw. So putting Bailey back in was a good back up plan. And I didn't know about the seeds planted for a Delirious/ MsChif reunion in IWA-MS. I'm a happy man today
Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I'll end up writing something more in-depth later on, but here's some brief stuff... - The stars of the weekend, in terms of coming out of nowhere and blowing up, were Tank and Toby Klein. Klein/Necro from Night One was one of the best deathmatches I've ever seen. They basically did what every deathmatch should be, and that's beating the crap out of the other guy with whatever you can, however you can, instead of "You stand here, I stab you...I stand here, you staple me" crap. Some of Necro's punches looked more harsh than any weapon shot. - As for Tank, let me just say that he went from a tiny respect applause on Night One to a standing ovation and "Please Come Back" chant at the end of his semi-final match. - I don't know what it was, but Ray Gordy disappointed me greatly. I expected him to break out as the new pure wrestling star in IWA this weekend, but I personally thought he almost looked like he didn't fit in, which is weird since he works mostly the same style that fits in with the IWA crew in Wildside and he's amazing there. - Sydal and Delirious had two really great matches this weekend. I really dug their tag match with Daniels and Whitmer, but their singles match on Night Two might be tied with their 2/3 Falls match in Highland in March for their best match against each other ever. The match, like the Aries match in Lafayette, was based around Matt's wrist injury, as Delirious worked over it the entire match. They also brought the shades of familiarity, as they knew what stuff of each other's to reverse, and Sydal even broke out Delirious's Shadows Over Hell backsplash move. The finish was really smartly done, as Sydal flipped out of the Chemical Imbalance #2 (reverse pumphandle Storm Cradle Driver), but hurt his wrist by keeping ahold of Delirious's hands when flipping, and fell prey to the CI#2 once again for the loss. - Ryan Boz + my Hulk Hogan lunchbox = hilarity ensues. Oh, he also beat the hell out of Smokey C. in the first round. It was some brutal stuff. Total squash match. - Corp. vs. Klein was a really good way to end off KOTDM. The lighttube stuff in the ring was sick enough, but Corporal going through the Light Tube Mansion was the single most amazing bump I've ever seen in person. I thought it should have been the finish myself, but I'm not going to complain when the guys murdered themselves this badly. For deathmatch fans, this is your stuff right here. I have yet to see the 2003 KOTDM, but I heard from people at the show that Necro/Klein and Corp./Klein was better than almost everything last year, but the rest of the weekend was slightly below 2003. Either way, I loved it.
