They certainly do a better job measuring it (range factor, defensive win shares) than traditional fielding statistics. And the fact that Pokey Reese is gainfully employed is an indicator itself.

I will say though, I loved doing those diving/jumping catches in World Series Baseball on the old Sega Genesis system back in the day.
