Help A Brotha Out

Recommended Posts

I'm debating trading in my PS2 and getting a Gamecube....should I do it? I'm leaning towards it because I've grown up on Nintendo's franchise games (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc.) and I kinda miss em and there's just nothing interesting out on PS2 at the moment...should I do it or is Gamecube going to be obsolete soon and I should just stick it out with my PS2...help me out folks...

That is a tuff one. I mean honestly PS2 does have a hell of a lot more games than the Nintendo does but it all depends on if you think if you could play most of Gamecube games. They do have good titles and what not but just not a whole lot of games you might be intrested in. But with a Cube would save some money, Nintendo does have bigger memory cards (1013 Memory Card), better wireless controllers (wavebird), and 4 controller ports while PS2 has smaller memory cards, and you need a multi-tap to play 4 players. So this is a hard one to call, but Gamecube has come out with a lot of good titles recently well honestly, Sony hasn't. But Sony is coming out with the new Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid 3 (which is most likely gonna cause me to buy a PS2.), and Madden. Even through Madden is coming out for all 3 systems, it will sell best on Sony. I would suggest just getting yourself 120 bucks or more, head down to Gamecrazy buy a new cube, and a memory card. Get 12 Free rentals and go from there but if you do decide to trade in your PS2. I know if you go down to a Gamecrazy to trade it in, you'll get 75 in store credit and if you trade in like 3 or 4 games from you PS2, which you should anyways since your getting rid of your PS2 and whatever else you'll cover the cost of the Gamecube and the memory card. I suggest going for the newest Card which is only 30 bucks cause it holds 4 times as much as the 251 does and the 251 is only 10 bucks less. Gamecube is a fun system and does come out with very good Multi-player games but really think it through because you might really end up hating yourself for the choice.

yeah that doesn't help you at all then now does it. What kind of games do you prefer to play anyways? This could help you make a better choice.

i'm mostly a sports, RPG and fighter guy...i dabble in the GTAs and the occassional platformer or first-person shooter...i guess PS2 is where it's at RPG-wise and every console gets sports title so I may as well stick with what I have...besides MSG3 and GTA: San Andreas DO look promising...

Yeah I would stick with PS2 (I can't beleave I typed that.), basically all the games you like, do very well on the PS2, except for fighting. Tekken to me isn't really that great of a fighting game. Nintendo's got Super Smash Bros which is its huge fighter game and Xbox has DOA but Xbox doesn't really fit in this convo.

my problem with Xbox is that I've heard more negatives than positives...maybe I'm hearing incorrectly? i'm not currently set-up for online play and it seems most XBox games are geared towards that, whereas you can go either or with PS2 games...

Nope actually most Xbox games are able to go online in some way or another. Not all the games are geared towards internet play but it is a nice feature to have. Here are the positives with the Xbox

-Xbox is only 150.00 plus if you buy one from Gamecrazy free copy of Brute Force (Which isn't a bad multiplayer game.)

-Harddrive so you save some money instead of buying a memory card.

-Can handle High Graphic games while PS2 and Gamecube can not.

-Some games able you to use your own music after you ripped them to your xbox to use instead of the game soundtrack

-4 player controller ports

-Can play Lan games that can go up to 16 players.

There are some negitives like these

- Have to buy a dvd kit to play dvd (30 bucks)

- You could get the Thompson harddrive which is the worse Harddrive there is at the moment

-Not a whole lot of games but a lot of there games are very good.

All of my friends who are gamers do own a Xbox and we mainly play that when it comes to all of us playing against one another. We might use the Cube but it's mainly the Xbox we use. Xbox doesn't have a lot of Roleplaying games through but it already does have Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic which is a very good RPG, it will have Fable in Sept., Jade Empire in Dec., and Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic hopefully by Feb., and since you like FPS, Halo should hold you over on that till Halo 2 comes out on Nov. 9th in which case every Xbox owner and their mom will own. Fighting game wise it does have DOA, which does very well. Plus with Madden 05 now going Live Madden just got better. So yeah, most of the Xbox games which are coming now can use their internet service in some form, playing against one another, scoreboards, friends list, downloading new content, stuff like that. I think Xbox is a very good system its just Sony users just really hate it. I think mainly because its offers very heavy comp. for Sony.

I got mine for 79.99 used at a CD Warehouse. :)

Gamecube is a great second system. It's not a great primary system though.

If you don't have a GBA, the Gamecube can be used to play all Game Boy games with the Game Boy Player, BTW. However, that could run you 50 bucks.

Stick with the PS2 unless you can game on Pokemon and Mario alone.

Why not just own both?...

i'm a broke-ass n*gga...

Then get another job.

If you get rid of your PS2, think of all the money you used to spend on that system and games.

Save your pennies, get a Cube and enjoy the best of both worlds. That way you can play the PS2 games you want to play and still go back to "old school" game characters with the GC...

Keep the PS2 for a little while. Why not get both? GC is only $99. Ps2 still has some hits on the way such as GTA SA and Gran Turismo 3. I don't own a GC but im probably going to pick one up before the end of the summer. The new Zelda looks fuckin sick.
