TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2004 I saw the Elite Guard in a match last night on Xplosion, and they looked very good. They played the APA role quite well (almost too well) and unloaded on a few jobbers. Onyx looked especially impressive. Did anyone else see this, and if so what did you think? Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2004 You thought Onyx looked impressive? It was his fault that the cradle double team move was sloppy and he failed on the first attempt to spinebuster one of the jobber so he had to bring his (the jobber's) feet back down to the mat and then bring back up for it. I was also a little peeved at Hernandez for whipping the jobber right into his corner.
Guest bort Report post Posted July 8, 2004 I havent seen any of his work in TNA but i think Hotstuff is gold, he disses out some insanly sick moves and is willing to take them as well. If he could tone it down a bit and was a few years younger (I think hes over 35) he could do well in the WWE
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted July 8, 2004 I don't get xplosion, but i am totally digging the Elite Guard gimmick. I wish they would just make them a four-horsemen type stable with Jarrett as the "Ric Flair" of the group. Put two others in a tag-team, and make the last guy an enforcer. I think it could really be cool.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 8, 2004 The "gimmick" is non existant save for the matching berets and pants. And that's a good thing, IMO, becasue the marching in formation was AWFUL. Frankly I haven't been impressed with Hotstuff or Onyx, and Chad is solid but boring. And for the life of me I can't think of how to spell his last name right now... Anyways, I say drop the gimmick and either stop using them or make Hotstuff and Chad a tag team, doing the power/techincal and speed thing.
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Sorry, I love the gimmick. Marching in formation would be great. Throw in some type of militery music for an entrance theme, even better. Play them up as some special trained pro-wrestling force with different strengths. I'd eat it up man.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 8, 2004 One problem, it's really obvious none of them (save CC with submission, I think he was trained by Dean Malenko) have any type of special training. Onyx just looks like a generic guy, and for all the good stuff I hear about Hotstuff, I haven't seen it.
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Well, you've got a point there. They would have to hide a lot of weakness in the other two guys. Truthfully, I don't know much about Hernandez, and I've always thought Onyx sucks, but this gimmick has me interested in them.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Plus the Red Berets they wear make them look like Guile from the Street Fighter Movie. Plus they do this stupid hand thing in the middle of the ring that's usualy a martial arts thing, and not a damn one of them looks like they know any sort of MA. For instance, my cousin saw it and thought that he was making it "extra painful" for the guy who was receiving it. Also, if you notice, I say they played the APA role. Which includes major botches. I've only seen them on Impact, but it looks a bit like the Truth Commission gimmick (which did do fairly well in Jerry Jarrett's USWA, before the failed WWF version). Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 8, 2004 I don't really remember the Truth Comission. That period (for the WWF version) was kinda my Dark Ages for wrestling. I didn't watch much.
