Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 ....I don't say this often, but that was a VERY good SD. IMO...really no downside other then the Suzuki stuff...I just don't like the guy at all. Even the Bradshaw stuff wasn't bad tonight, so thumbs up from me.
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 That felt like a damn long SmackDown. From what I saw (3 vs. 3, Paul Heyman segment, Tag Title switch), it was passable, but still not something I'd watch.
Aero 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Wow, I actually enjoyed Smackdown this week. This was probably the best one since before Wrestlemania. Every match, except for the JBL match was good.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted July 9, 2004 This is the first Smackdown I had watched since April. Still about 2 or 3 bad things for every good thing that happens. The Heyman, JBL stuff and the ME finisher were extremely lame. At least the Tag Title match and the six-man were enjoyable.
Silence 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Other than the Heyman promo, the JBL match, and the ending of Smackdown (so the only way to make John Cena lose the title is to STRIP him of it??? He's almost as protected in WWE as Torrie Wilson and HHH at this rate), the 6-Man Cruiserweight and the Tag Team title matches made for a good Smackdown this week. Guest combat_rock Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Michael Cole is officially the most retarded man on earth. First Mr. America and now El Gran Luchadore. Who's next? Herr Germaniaz? Y'know the worst thing about Cole? All the LAME nicknames he makes up. Anyone remember MANSTER? Now he's calling Suzuki the Bronze Warrior, and before he got demoted, he pulled "Pale Rider" out of his ass for Mordecai. And sadly, Tazz ussually goes along with this stuff. Anyway, it does look like a much improved Smackdown. Too bad about the champ still.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Most enjoyable show in a long time. -Jindrak/RVD was OK. Jindrak has really improved. He's no Benoit, but he's developed a personality, and hasn't blown anything in the ring. Didn't like RVD totally ignoring all the back work when it was time for him to go on offense. I could live with a Jindrak lower/mid card push. -tag title match was good. Hopefully the Dudz don't go back face, as they've seemed to rediscover an "edge" to their work as heels that they lacked as faces. And hopefully they let London/Kidman have a run with the belts, rather than job them out to Gunn/Holly next week. -JBL/El Grand LuchaMoore was decent enough. Liked Lucha's "celebration" taunt -cruiser 6-man was OK, but too short. I would have liked to have seen at least 5 more minutes for that match, as it broke down to a bunch of spots way too early. Knoble = god, but I don't buy Spike & Scotty hanging with the other 4 guys in that match. -ending aside, I was digging Book/Cena. Probably Book's best match in a while. He really looked motivated, and hit his stuff pretty crisply. -I flipped away from the Heyman/UT stuff, as well as Suzuki's backstage segment. Overall, best show since the redraft. Guest Wondermouse Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Oh man, you should not have flipped away from Kenzo backstage. At the conclusion of the interview, he looks into the camera: "God Bless America" And gives this HORRIBLY cheesy yet creepy grin that was awesome. I loved the Heyman stuff, if only because it's so over the top. And that Heyman looked like he was going to pull a Jimmy Fallon and laugh halfway through. Anyway, it does look like a much improved Smackdown. Too bad about the champ still. I thought Manster was coined by Tazz? Although it could have been a JR-fed brainfart. Don't forget about John "C-Note." Bronze Warrior is stupid because he looks like he has the same complexion as millions of other Japanese folks, and he doesn't wear any actual bronze as part of his entrance attire or anything. It almost sounds like a nickname for his genitalia, and (speaking of "Pale Rider"). then he could call Hiroko his... Has Mordecai come out on a horse or anything? Does he look like he'd even know which way to put a saddle? Of course, I'd prefer they not throw in elements of the Seven gimmick because it's stupid enough already. Maybe he's a Pale Bus Rider or Pale Taxi Rider? I'd swear they were JR-isms, but they're even more arbitrary and nonsensical. Maybe it's ones JR would be too embarassed to use himself. iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Well, I actually watched most of Smackdown tonight, and while it wasn't particularly engrossing, it was enough to hold my interest most of the night, and there wasn't anything too bad. If they just had a little bit of star power on this show, and they kept writing decent shows, and they got the belt off JBL, and they made everyone forget JBL ever held the belt, they might be all right. Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Not a very good tag match. I've regularly seen better on Velocity, and RAW has a better one every week. SHHHHHHHHH!! Maaan, don't SAY things like that! Damn! SD was watchable this week, but I watch every week no matter what, so whatever.
Guest whitemilesdavis Report post Posted July 9, 2004 Really liked Smadown this week. A few thoughts: Do you think London/Kidman could be a new era R&R X-press? The cruiser match was great. It really reminded how good parts of WCW were. I'd like to see Yang get pushed as a cruiser contender. I hate to give props to JBL, but that interview was hilarious. He's pulling off the pioused - holier than thou - character very well. The hand sanitizer was a good addition, though I wish Cole and Taz wouldn't have mentioned it. It was funnier the first time, just as a subtle "I'm better than you" gesture. And, his PC pronunciation of Meh-he-co and Meh-he-co City was beautiful. I really wish this guy could wrestle. Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted July 9, 2004 I really wish this guy could wrestle. Same here but I still don't think his promos are anything to write home about either. After he threw about his 24th punch in a row I had to flip the channel till Eddie arrived. His offense has to be one of the most dullest things I ever saw. That 6 man cruiser needed alot more time and the positioning of Knoble's confederate flag on his trunks makes it looks like he shit his pants and is carrying a load 24-7. Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 This past Smackdown was the first one I actually watched totally through. And I must say that the show seems to be leaps and bounds improved than where it was earlier. What did you all think, thse who watched.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 10, 2004 It was Only one show and that means we can't say the Show has improved, One week of goodness can't justify the last 7 months of shit. Keep a good flow of this and maybe we can say the show has improved.
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Rome wasn't built in a day, but last night's Smackdown was a great start. Actually featured almost every Cruiserweight in seperate matches, let them go over clean, and kept Bradshaw in the first hour slot vs. Shannon Moore (I heard) dressed as El Gran Luchadore. I believe that I am more interested in the Eddie/Bradshaw feud, than I am the HHH/Benoit feud at this point.
