Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Oh I see that I've pretty much been written out of everyone's schedule. That's ok. I didn't know much about college football when we did the Bowl Pick Em'. This season I'm ready though. I have a couple of College Football previews, and I've been reading everything I can on college football and listening to the radio this past offseason. You're all in for a rude awakening. I gurantee it.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 I just made the mistake of going over to ESPN.com and reading the rankings for 2004 made way back in January after all the bowl games were over. Now I'm more hyped than before. ARGH!
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Most preseason previews I read are actually kind of lazy IMO. They put the Top 3 as the ending top 3 from last season. Which I guess is ok b/c any combination of OU/LSU/USC in the Top 3 is reasonable. You can make a case for all 3 being preseason #1(though LSU may have the weakest case). Which leads me to a preason preview I read that had: 1) USC(nothing wrong with that) 2) OU(once again nothing wrong with that) 3) Georgia(i've heard good things) 4) Where's LSU? 5) Hello? 6) Ummmm........ 7) The Fuck? 8) LSU(what the hell? this low? I don't think so)
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 My own preseason top 10 runs as such: 1. LSU (SEC represent, toughest fuckin' conference in the nation, and the best team in that conference) 2. USC (being an East Coast dude, never saw too much of them in action, but they're a fearsome team and have oodles of returning people) 3. Georgia 4. Oklahoma (why Georgia over Oklahoma? Personal preference, and a belief that the two are evenly matched, with Georgia holding just the slightest edge and having the key Tennessee and LSU games at home) 5. Florida State (best offense since the '99 season) 6. Miami (only road games that might cause trouble are Virginia and NC State) 7. Michigan (Ohio State has lost the core players that gave them a two season 25-2 record, leaving things wide open for Michigan to take it all in the Big Ten, so long as Purdue doesn't get a great defense to go with their offense) 8. Texas (as usual, everything'll be straight until the Oklahoma game, then probably another flub that'll land them in the Holiday Bowl again, they'll be tremendous in a year or two thanks to their strong recruiting) 9. Auburn (that running game is going to be SCARY this year) 10. Missouri (Nebraska has a new coach, Colorado hasn't looked impressive since 2001, and Kansas State will be a bust this year I believe. Missouri takes the Big XII North)
Bored 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 First of all, I dont know whether or not its a play on words but it probably should be the Oxycontin Bowl instead of the Oxycotton Bowl.. Play on words and it's a street name for it.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Since everyone else is putting together their schedule, figured I'd see my competition. 1. Florida State (2GOLD) 2. Kent State (JHawk) 3. Tennessee (Kotzenjunge) 4. Stanford (Bored) 5. Florida (Agent Bond34) 6. Virginia (Edwin MacPhisto) 7. Boise State (Rob E Dangerously) 8. Minnesota (Vern Gagne) 9. LSU (teke184) 10. UCLA (phoenixrising) W1: Miami [spaceman Spiff] (is it sad that even in a pick em contest, I ask WHERE WE AT?!?!) W2. Bowling Green ["Hail" bps21] (this one scares me, damn MAC and Bills fan) W3: #7 Boise State [Rob E Dangerously] W4: Texas [Flyboy] W5: Boston College [HarleyQuinn] W6: Syracuse [CanadianChris] (wow, not many ranked on my schedule) W7: #6 Virginia [Edwin MacPhisto] (oh, there we go) W8: Ohio State [Gert T] W9: Maryland [MarvinisaLunatic] (Drew Weatherly finally plays) W10: Hawaii [Will Scarlet] W11: Rutgers [pinjockey] W12: #5 Florida [Agent Bond34] (God, I fear Chris Rix....did I mention that?) W13: West Virginia [Loaded Glove] I'm kinda shocked, only three preseason ranked teams on the schedule. Not the others aren't good, just kinda odd being the #1 and not being loaded up with preseason ranked opponents. I hate those games against Miami and Florida cause I am forced to wonder which Chris Rix will show up and usually I pick incredibly wrong.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 If you want a slew of hyperactive preview stuff, head over to CollegeFootballNews.com. They're putting up incredibly in-depth previews for it being so early. Some of what they've done: -Ranked ALL 117 TEAMS (including throwing my Cavs in at #10, hoody hoo) -Started to plot out big conference breakdowns (through Big 10, ACC, Big 12, WAC, and MWC so far, I think) -Written up a super-detailed look into every team, including CFN.com's complete projection of which games every team will win and lose, and what bowls they'll wind up at Sure, half of this will be wrong by the time the first two weeks of the season have come and gone, but it’s incredibly fun to spend an afternoon bopping around the site. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Week 5: Auburn, unranked (but this is the game against AoO~! Care to make a bet?) Famous last words. I'd say the wild card in the contest is Gert T (Ohio State). He absolutely dominated kkk's contest last year. Hey, how 'bout hell no. I beat Gert in the regular season (after the person who had the Dolphins before me had lost to him), and our playoff game came down to a tiebreaker, if I remember right, which I might not. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 8. Texas (as usual, everything'll be straight until the Oklahoma game, then probably another flub that'll land them in the Holiday Bowl again, they'll be tremendous in a year or two thanks to their strong recruiting) They'll never be able to beat Oklahoma as long as Bob Stoops is the coach. Mark my words. He out coaches them even when they have better talent. If Mack Brown loses to OU this year...I think he's gone. 5 years in a row? Texans won't like that. Anyways my preseason top 10 is: 1) Oklahoma(not just b/c I'm a fan of there's. They were scary during the regular season last year and they return all those starters on offense with another year of experience, a sting from 2 disheartening losses, and an actual run game this year. not to mention that scary defense that wouldn't even give LSU a 1st down in the 2nd half of the Sugar Bowl is better. They're the same team as last year that filled in the holes that were apparent in the last 2 games. They'll be scary) 2) USC(with that offense virtually still intact. Ouch. It'll take a brick wall defense like OU and LSU to shut this team down. So that's why I don't think in addition to OU they'll go undefeated as well b/c they won't run into a defense that can stop them until they face off against one in a bowl) 3) Georgia(the same team pretty much as last year that almost had what it took but didn't quite have it. Now they're back with more experience.) 4) LSU(just a vicious defense. Though I believe they lost some offensive players so they may have trouble achieving what they did the previous year) 5) Miami(Miami is always there and always has a team to be reckoned with) 6) Florida State(they have been underachieving and usually turn out a good squad no matter what. This year will be no different. The true test though is the season opener) 7) Michigan(they may be able to run through there conference with relative ease. Not to mention there another team that just finds a way to be there in the end) 8) Cal(what!? hey there only big problem is USC on the road. IMO they're the second best team in the PAC-10 and I don't forsee them having to much trouble since they were up last year.) 9) Texas(i'm just not as high on them b/c i know they cannot beat Oklahoma. Plus I know there coach is a braindead moron after watching the Holiday Bowl.) 10) Missouri(i'm still not sold on Brad Smith. But they have the best chance out of the Big 12 North which is admittedly the weaker division of the Big XII)
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 So are we picking by the spread or just straight up?
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2004 Oh, I hope straight-up. Spread is weak.

phoenixrising 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 I'm honored to be part of the preseason top 10. Now I hope I'm better than my favorite school currently is right now. Currently: 0-0. #10 preseason ranking Schedule: Week 1: Penn State vs. UCLA Week 2: UCLA vs. #9 LSU Week 3: Syracuse vs. UCLA Week 4: UCLA vs. Georgia Week 5: UCLA vs. #7 Boise State Week 6: Ohio State vs. UCLA Week 7: UCLA vs. Hawaii Week 8: UCLA vs. Arizona State* Week 9: #4 Stanford vs. UCLA* Week 10: Washington State vs. UCLA* Week 11: UCLA vs. Oregon* Week 12: USC vs. UCLA* Week 13: Oklahoma vs. UCLA Only three ranked teams... And my Preseason Top 10: 1. Oklahoma (I see OU and USC as even, right now I have OU on top) 2. USC (will be #1 if Williams is eligible) 3. LSU (offense will take time to come around but defense is still killer) 4. Georgia (bothered by injuries last year, need to stay healthy and beat Florida to make a good run) 5. Florida State (Rix has to come around sometime...right?) 6. Miami (Berlin/Crudup/Wright must step up) 7. Michigan (I think they are better than Ohio State right now, their QB situation is better and they have better lines) 8. Texas (I can't see them beating OU this year though) 9. California (only team in the Pac-10 that can hang with USC) 10. Florida (Chris Leak is the real deal, this is a good young team that could surprise a lot of people if Zook can coach)

I face 3 Top 5 teams in the 1st 5 weeks, ouch. I'm also worried about weeks 10 and 12. I'm expecting to go 6-7 maybe just looking at this schedule. Of course I hope I can do better, heh. Bored 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 We really won't know how hard anyone's schedule is until the season starts as the Top 10 is only based on a small sample from the Bowl Pick 'Em contest. We have several people in the contest who didn't particpate in that one along with the newbies to the board. I think among the newbies therealworldschampion (Penn State) could be the biggest threat.
