Guest Trivia247 Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Anyone else see him as Kenzo's bodyguard? considering that Kenzo is larger than Ultimo. No. In wrestling.. bodyguards are never smaller than their clients Well actually Virgil was smaller height and size wise to Ted Dibiasi.
Mecha Mummy Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Just a minor pet peeve: Why is it that Japanese wrestlers almost NEVER have first names when wrestling in America? Except for Kenzo. I mean, Akio, Sakoda, Miyamoto, Minnamino, and now Asai. Jesus. Umm Taka Michinoku Sho Funaki Dick Togo MENS Teioh they seem to have full names. Funaki is very rarely referred to as Sho Funaki in WWE. MAYBE when he debuted. But I'm talking about recently as is. Michinoku I'll grant you.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Matthews called Funaki Sho Funaki on Velocity this week, but otherise, no one ever does.
The Czech Republic Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Well Matthews can get away with that because it's Velocity and he's a smark. Nobody else gives Funaki a first name other than "Numbah One Smackdown Announcer" which is a shame. The wasted potential of a tag team with Paul Wight...The Big Show and the Small Sho could've been money in the bank.
Scroby Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I bet Matthews gets away with it because no one watches Velocity and Heat who are writers. A good example is Stevie Night Heat. That went on for months and Stephanie had no idea till it finally caught her attention, then it was gone, and basically still is gone to this day (I liked that gimmick too, Victoria was so great.). But yeah, so until a higher power figures out what Matthews is saying, he'll keep saying it till he's told to stop.

The wasted potential of a tag team with Paul Wight...The Big Show and the Small Sho could've been money in the bank. Or he could team with Undertaker. Big Evil and Little Evil. Seriously, this idea for Ultimo sucks. I'm going to blame the WWE, first of all because it's easy, and secondly, even if it is Ultimo's idea, the company should be smacking down anyone with delusions of granduer like getting over without the mask and character that helped establish you. And honestly, I was one of the few who didn't mind WWE "insulting our intellegence" by acting like Rey Rey never wrestled without a mask. Because he never should have lost it.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 WOW, what a fucking stupid idea this would be. If this is Vince's idea.......well then this deserves to fail. If this is Ultimo's idea......then he deserves the crap that the WWE WILL book him into.
Tawren Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 If it is his idea: he's a retard. Didn't everyone say that about Dinsmore? Look where he is now. It's working for now, but really, that is the kind of gimmick that if it works, it will only last for a certain time.
Guest NiTR0 Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I'm an Ultimo Dragon fan, but without the mask, he has no appeal. He isn't great anymore, and the mask and his good abilities are the only reason I like him nowadays. Without the mask, I couldn't care less about him really.
Crimson G Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I think they'd call him "Asai" because his first name is Yoshihiro. That's not an easy name for dumbass announcers to pronounce. (Except Joey Styles and probably Josh Matthews)

Guest PlatinumBoy Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Any big time puro fans out there know how good Ultimo's recent work in Japan was workrate wise? Can he still bring it--despite his WWE run?
Guest The Ultimate Fantasy Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 I don't know if that's horrible. What idiot marks think about Ultimo Dragon they think with the costume and everything that he is like Mysterio but like someone says he is like the more technical Jamie Knoble. Perhaps without the mask he could be marketted as a more grounded technical wrestler not only that but the marks also might remember Ultimo as a jobber who slipped twice during WMXX but as Asai he could be viewed as a more tehnical and submission based Tajiri.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 Any big time puro fans out there know how good Ultimo's recent work in Japan was workrate wise? Can he still bring it--despite his WWE run? I've seen his recent stuff. He isn't quite what he used to be, like when he used to wrestle in Japan. He can STILL easily bring it though.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I didn't think U.D. was that bad on Velocity, considering he only got 5-6 minute matches. Definitely not as good as he was years ago, but he's getting older and just came out of retirement not too long ago. Stupid WWE...
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted July 15, 2004 Report Posted July 15, 2004 I think the Jamie Noble comment means that he is more ground based, and most people don't expect that out of a cruiser - they expect Rey's wacky high flying. Rey isn't even busting out any wacky high flying anymore. Go watch his ECW matches against Psicosis and Juventud Guerrera. THAT is some crazy high flying. Not this bullshit where he springboards and just sits down on the guy.
Guest combat_rock Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 I hear you. Dumping the West Coast Pop in favor of this "Dropping the dime" bullshit was one of the stupidest things EVAR!

He had a very fun match against Chavo Guerrero Jr. for the Cruiser title at one point, too. Of course, if this all happens, all I can say is that this is the result of Ultimo's bad karma in that he never properly put over any of his students other than CIMA, and then Ultimo promptly stole CIMA's thunder after jobbing anyway.
Spaceman Spiff Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 I hear you. Dumping the West Coast Pop in favor of this "Dropping the dime" bullshit was one of the stupidest things EVAR! 1) Rey has bad knees, and the WCP takes a toll on the knees. 2) The WCP doesn't work on taller guys (see Mattitude landing on his dome taking it). Rey has been working (more or less) with some fairly tall guys lately.
