sfaJack 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 Someone explain to me again why the pitchers bat in the friggin' All-Star game. I hate the DH as much as anyone, but the ASG demands it be used. The only redeeming quality it has in the ASG is that it's a nice little way to use most of the bench guys.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 13, 2004 it's a NATIONAL league park. Last year, the DH rule in US CELL stadium enforced it.

sfaJack 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2004 it's a NATIONAL league park. Last year, the DH rule in US CELL stadium enforced it. Yeah, I know why they aren't using it: NL park = NL rules and all that jazz, just like interleague. But this is the All-Star game. Just seems to me that since it's an exhibition that is pretty meaningless in the long run, you'd open up one more spot for a "real" hitter to take some swings. Who the hell wants to see the pitchers hit in the All-Star game? Anyone?
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 That guy in the taco bell pitching contest threw the ball like a girl.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Ha Moises Alou always get's booed in Houston.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Actually, they're probably saying Alooooooooou.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Ugh and Fantasia shows why this year's American Idol was a joke. EDIT: Oh trust me he gets booed in Houston. I went to a Cubs/Astros game earlier this season and he was booed every time he came to bat.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 I found it funny they booed Jimy Williams, too. EDIT: Yeah, I've been to lots of Cubs/Astros games at Minute Maid, including Clemens/Prior this year. It's more "Alou" than booing, though there are many that boo.

LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Uh oh Jeter almost got knocked out by Ali!
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Nolan Ryan should be tossing out the first pitch and that is the beginning and the end of the discussion. WTF does Muhammad Ali have to do with anything baseball or Houston? It's insane.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Oh I don't like seeing Ali anymore. And it's not "booooo," it's Alooooooou"
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Damn Ali has gotten worse in the last few years, it's kinda sad seeing him in this condition. Jesus I can't believe I'm such a warm hearted person now...stupid Full House re-runs. I haven't paid attention lately, but does the All-Star game winners league get home field advantage in the World Series again?
Guest Nelly's Bandaid Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Yeah, what a mockery having one of the greatest athletic competitors in the history of all sports throw out the first pitch. Someone get that guy out of there..... Watching Ali is like a lesson on life itself, a man so great and so awe-inspiring, now broken down and fragile, yet still human enough to make jokes and ham it up to the camera. Really gives you that funny feeling.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Yeah they do get home field advantage.
Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Yeah they do get home field advantage. Cool...let's go Yankees...I mean, let's go the American Yankee League. Although I'll kinda route for Clemens.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 I like it better when they wear their own uniforms. I mean, it's baseball, you know who's on what team, it's not like hockey or basketball where you just have everyone out there doin' their thing.
Guest Nelly's Bandaid Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Was talking to sfajack, I understand your sentiment, but questioning what his place is out there is just retarded.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 I don't care for Williams, but that can't be easy to be there tonight in your home ballpark, already knowing you're probably out of job within the next 24 hours, and get heavily booed. And I think the NL will take it this year.

sfaJack 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Yeah, what a mockery having one of the greatest athletic competitors in the history of all sports throw out the first pitch. And what would you call Nolan Ryan? Watching Ali is like a lesson on life itself, a man so great and so awe-inspiring, now broken down and fragile, yet still human enough to make jokes and ham it up to the camera. Really gives you that funny feeling. Ali had his moment at the Olympics in Atlanta in '96. Given his current condition and the fact that he has absolutely nothing to do with baseball, the decision is easy. You don't go with Ali, as great as he was.
