King of the Ring 1997 Tourney Question

Recommended Posts

I remember seeing Ahmed Johnson defeated Triple H in the first round of the tournament but suddenly Triple H re-entered the tournament against Crush and then went on to win the whole thing that year. What was the point of having him in two prelimary matches and did someone just have a brain fart in having him lose to Johnson?

Triple H replaced somebody who had been injured (Vader I think, although I'm not certain), and the kayfabe reason to put him back in the tourney was that he'd lost to Ahmed by DQ but had been told he could only lose by pinfall or submission

Vader was said to have a broken nose as a result of Ken Shamrock's beating at IYH so Trip filled in.

As stated, he wasn't told he could lose via DQ or count-out and thus threatened legal action against the WWF if they didn't let him back in.

Yes, that WAS the lamest loophole ever used.

I prefer "Triple H is the Raw World Champion...because you all know he deserves it!" in Sept. 02 as the lamest loophole/decision ever.:)

Well, he WAS the #1 Contender when Brock jumped ship, but logic would have the #1 and "#2" contenders fight for a vacant title, a la Great American Bash 1991...yeah, that's even worse.
