Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Alfonzo has had a much better year? 2003: .334 OBP, .391 SLG 2004: .339 OBP, .390 SLG I haven't looked at his stats yet but it seems as though he's outdone his production from last season, or at least is on pace to destroy it. Anyways... The Boston Globe's Gordon Edes reported Monday that the Phillies were now the front-runners to land Finley, though the New York Post considers the Yankees a dark horse to obtain the center fielder. After the Glanville mis-hap this should make the resident TSM Phillies fans happy. I included the bit on the NY Post because its just hilarious that they think the Yankees are getting every player. I suppose if you throw out 50 names though you're bound to get one of them right. The latest buzz on Walker has him going to Florida, according to the Boston Globe's Gordon Edes, but only if he waives his no-trade clause and Colorado agrees to eat a big portion of the contract in a Mike Hampton-like deal. ... Walker appears to be the Marlins' top priority, should they decide to be buyers instead of sellers before July 31. "Walker has a much higher ceiling (than Steve Finley) and he's still a Gold Glove right fielder,'' one National League scout told the Palm Beach Post. "He'd really help (the Marlins).'' The Marlins have a scout at Dodger Stadium to watch Walker, who has the right to veto any trade. Walker, though, who has a home in South Florida, is just asking that he be kept aware of the talks. ... ESPN's Peter Gammons said on Tuesday morning's SportsCenter that the Rockies told the Red Sox Walker wouldn't mind being dealt to Boston. However, Gammons went on to say the Sox weren't as interested in bringing Walker to Boston to play first base as they were a week ago. According to Gammons, the Rockies would have to take Byung-Hyun Kim, who makes $6 million in 2005, in any deal because Boston cannot take on Walker's entire $12.5 million next season. With Trot Nixon going back on the DL with Quad problems I bet the stance on that has changed a bit. I wouldn't at all mind seeing Larry Walker come to Boston if Colorado took Kim. Play him in RF while Trot is getting healthy and then have him play 1B against righties.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 good news for Al and Vern. The Twins are going to trade Mikenziwhatever and play Morneau full time. Good riddance to a poor man's Mark Grace. Know Mauer needs to come back, and the Twins can have the early makings of an actual 3 and 4 hitters.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Big game tonight against the Marlins. Hopefully with the Fish floundering, we can finally figure out how to beat them and sent them crashing down the standings.
