Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted July 24, 2004 Now that I'm in my own place and back on broadband, I want to get downloading MP3s again (fuck what anyone says - I've discovered so many great bands that i only heard by downloading their tracks for free, and then I've gone out and invested in all their stuff). My dad used to have Kazaa on his computer, although that was more for dodgy porn than music. Anyway, that used to be pretty good for getting MP3s, although there are a couple of issues I have before installing it on my shiny new, virus-free computer... 1) I know my dad got hit iwth a shitload of spyware and shit from the porn sites he visited, but know that a lot of the stuff floating around on Kazaa was riddled with computer VD. Has it got any better? 2) I've also heard that they've changed Kazaa so that it's not nearly what it used to be. What's the full story? I've heard it implied that you now get charged for downloads, is that right? 3) I'm I right in thinking there's a few different Kazaas going around - Kazaa Lite, Kazaa Gold, Kazaa whatthefuckever... {''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2004 Kazaa Resurection is one of the newer versions and has no spyware, no charges, and has a lot of stuff already entered into the search filter to keep shit from coming up. The other versions are usually standard Kazaa sold to people who don't know better. Still not a good place for mp3's though as RIAA still has a lot of dummy files around. AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 Bittorrent is much better for getting pretty much any kind of file than kazaa. The only thing kazaa has over bittorrent is the ability to find a sigle song since bittorrent usually has the entire album for download in one easy file. Yeah, that's been recommended to me before when I was trying to track down some unreleased material. Problem was, when I tried to use it, it was a little problematic - I'm sure there were a couple of patches floating around, but I never got around to installing them. Is everything fixed now, or do I need to hunt down the patches? Cheers for the info everyone. Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 Tip on that. Do your search, and then queue from a user with his/her name bolded black. That means they have an upload slot available and you'll generally start your download immediately. Another thing that doesn't hurt is queueing from a user that has a high upload bandwidth so their list moves faster. As far as kazaa goes, I don't recommend any of them.
