IWA-MS 7/31 results

Recommended Posts

From the IWA-MS boards, apparently a crowd of around 200...

Another awesome show from IWA. Ian Announced that the 8th Anniversary show will be held in Highland on 10/23. He also said that Chris Sabin had a family emergency & that since Zach Gowen ruined the main event last time, it would be Petey Williams defending against Alex Shelley two out of three falls.

1- Jimmy Jacobs who isn't doing the HUSS gimmick anymore but instead the John Cusack from 'Say Anything' bit, holding the boombox & the Peter Gabriel music. I don't know if he used to do this or what, I've only been following IWA for about eight months. Anyway, Jacobs won a three way over Mark Wolf & Nate Webb to earn a shot at the light heavyweight belt at a later date. A good solid opener.

2- Trik Davis beat Steve Stone by DQ win Stone wouldn't pin Trik. Finish was kinda lame. Ian cameout & brawled with Stone, the lockeroom had to seperate them. They will wrestle at the next Highland show on 8-21.

3- Traci Brooks pinned Daizee Haze in a four way that also included Mickie Knuckles & MsChif.

4- Delirious over AJ Styles when Kid Kash interfered & allowed Delirous to get the win. Match was really good. Delirious took a crazy bump where Styles pressed him & dropped him over the turnbuckle but caught mostly steel.

5- Boz & Bradley over Nigel & Collyer to retain the tag belts, even though their aren't any belts. Match was decent. Bradley sported his Inoki Dojo tights. He looks more intimidating with the singlet.

6- CM Punk over Matt Sydal.

Match was good. CM Punk is one of my favorites but after the match when he yelled to todd gerth "#### off you mark", he become even better in my book. gerth & his "know it all" cw.cum BUTT buddies were totally over the top in there cheering for Sydal, the must have a crush on him. It seemed so forced. It sounded like parents cheering on there son at a little league game. That's not why Punk said what he said but those guys are nerds & gerth needs to invest in a comb, Christ that is one nappy ass weave. But hey hopefully the website dorks had a good time. That's all that counts, right?

7-Sabu pinned Danny Daniels in a sloppy three way that also included Kid Kash. Sabu was unadvertised & seemed a bit messed up or something. I don't know what his problem was. Whe h went to the back of the Lincon Center to get a table, on the way back he pushed gerth twice. Now I don't really care for the guy but what Sabu did was wrong. I don't think Sabu even knows who this guy is, unlike Punk who pointed him out to call him a mark. Sabu was just out of control tonight & I feel sorry for the guys who had to work with him.

8- In the match of the night Arik Cannon defeated American Dragon in a great match. Great submission wrestling & very hard hitting, just a tremendous match. After the match Ian said it was worth the wait for AmDrag & invited him back on 8-21. Crowd loudly chanted HERO HERO, so Ian made the match. Chris hero vs. American Dragon for 8-21 in Highland. I can't wait.

9- Petey williamsretained the world title over Alex Shelley 2 falls to one. Match was solid, but was hard to live up to after the previous match.

10- Mr. Insanity over Madman Pondo in a barbwire tables match. Pondo & Mr. Insanity will have a strap match on 8-21, where the fans get to use the straps them.

An excellent show, do yourself a favor, GET THE TAPE.

Another show report from RDMrWhite4 on the CZWFans. Also booked for 8/21 in addition to Danielson/Hero is Arik Cannon/Homicide, Ian Rotten/Steve Stone and the rescheduled B-Boy/Samoa Joe. That makes for one LOADED looking show, Hero vs Dragon i've been dying to see for about as long as i've been following the indies, and Cannon/Homicide isn't far behind as far as matches i want to see either.

Man, motherfuck. What an explosive show. My hands are bruised from clapping so much. Announced for August 21, Samoa Joe vs. BBoy, Arik Cannon vs. Homicide, Hero vs. American Dragon, Ian vs. Steve Stone

Jacobs over Webb/Wolf:

This match wasn't well structured. They didn't mesh well at all. It wasn't bad, but I think you can fast forward through this one if you want. Jacobs has given up the HUSS gimmick. He came out to that John Cusack movie song where he holdsa up a boom box....and he held iup a boombox,

MsChif over Knuckles/Daizee/Traci Brooks:

This match was pretty good. Standard womens fair. Traci Brooks didn't do shit. MsChif, of course, made this match awesome.....and frankly I found her REALLY hot in person. Some new womens spots and I have zero complaints.

Trik over Steve Stone via DQ:

Sucked. Well, it was starting off pretty good, but then this weird ass DQ came out of nowhere. The match was just to set up for Stone vs. Ian. Ian came out and they brawled all over the building, with the locker room emptying out to break them up. Ian did a really good job looking PISSED off. He got on the mic and said he stopped booking Stone cuz he was the biggest dick in the business, behind CM punk.

Delirious over AJ via Kid Kash run in:

This was a good match. It wasn't as good as I could have hoped for, but it made sense and flowed very well. Delirious was the heel who thinks he's more powerful than he is, and doesn't realize just how outclassed he is. He just keeps going back for more. AJ brutalizes Delirious for most of the match. They do some really good mat Wrestling to start the match off, but then its just uber-kill mode. It wasn't totally one sided, but the sickest stuff did come out of AJ. The worst of it all was when AJ pressed Delirious over his head, onto the metal part of the turnbuckle(the part that controls the tightenss of the rope). It made the most disgusting sound. In the end, the ref was KO'd and Kid KAsh came in and clipped AJ's knee as he had Delirious set up for the Styles Clash. Delirious then got the pinfall by falling on AJ's chest. REALLY hot finish, but almost a letdown in the first couple of minutes.

Intermission

Boz and Bradley over Mcguiness and Collyer:

This match was really fun and got the crowd fired back up. It isn't as good as the match from earlier this year, but goddamn was it stiff. McGuiness and Boz have to have heat or something, cuz Nigel was WASTING Boz with kicks and forearms. They were "goddamn unneccessary." Collyer was cut off in the ring most of th match. At comes point Boz and Nigel were on the outside and Nigel just tossed him like four rows deep. they were more interesting then whatever was going on in the ring. Finally, the only thing Boz did to retaliate, he headbutted Nigel so hard I swear it gave him a concussion. NASTY> I hope its on tape. Nigel was loopy after that one.

Punk over Sydal:

This match was really damn good. Great story. At first Punk was acting impressed by Sydal's mat ablilities, even shaking his hand after the frist exchange. After Sydal started to outclass Punk though, that was it. HE brutally works over Sydal's leg. It was amazingly good shit. Sydal supplied a ton of cool spots though. He doublestomped Punk who was hanging inbetween the Second and third rope. Damn cool. This match REALLY turned the show around. I'm too tired to remember all the shit, but this is really good. Punk and Sydal were on their game. Punk was such an asshole. He really put Sydal in his place.

Sabu over Daniels/Kid Kash:

This match was pure fucking chaos. At first it was going decent, even to the point where everyone was saying it was the best SABU match in a long time. SABU was talking in the ring, and being reallyt funny. I've never seen anything like it. After all the dives to the outside though, it started to fall apart big time. SABU went ballistic. This was almost as cool as the Tracy incident. He started throwing chairs everywhere, and went and got one of the dastardly Highland tables. Somewhere along the way, a fan heckled Sabu about throwing chairs, and SABU almost hit him with a chair then and there. He was fucking crazy. He pushes the fan REALLY hard, then the idiot fan PUSHES SABU back. SABU just blasts the fan with a push and gets ready to knock his teeth out. It was really intense. From their, he gets back in the ring and starts to fade out. SABU went to hit alegdrop to the outside throuh a table, and he just thuds on it so damn sick. Barley bends under his weight. SABU swung a chair at the ref too. Really good at first, the just so chaotic and crazy that it's required viewing. I've never seen SABU like that.

Arik Cannon over American Dragon (MOTY contender):

Everyone going to be REAL happy with this one. It blew all hopes and expectations out of the water. At first Dragon pretty much owned Cannon on the mat with some submissions. They rolled around for awhiile, and then went back to their feet. After Cannon got Dragon on the ropes, he gingerly slapped him across the face. This opened up the basis of the match: the hitting eachother ar hard as possible with European upper cuts. This reminded me a lot of IAn/Cannon from 3/06, but in a much more awesome way. This match is magnificent. The stuff on the floor was right in front of me, and don't be surprised to see me marking out the whole time. Sickest chops and uppercuts I've ever seen in a match. Holy Shit chants for every exchange. The match is twenty plus minutes of pure destruction. I'm speechless guys. They did a top rope Suplex that made the ring bounce literally all the way to the second rope. They actually hit it so hard the ring broke, jabbing a large metal bolt up through the apron. Cannon slowly just knocks Dragon out, and after two Glimmering Wartlocks to the back of the head, he pins Dragon clean. Beautiful. Motherfucking beautiful. I was there for Hero/Cide 2003, and this had me marking out way more. When Cannon was in Cattle Mutilation, the whole crowd was absolutley apeshit. They were more inot this than Joe/Hero. Not just chanting for fun, I mean out of pure engrossment. Me and the guys next to me started the MOTY chant, and I started the Thank You chant. Unreal guys. Just fucking wait.

Petey Williams over Alex Shelley 2/3 falls (subbing for Sabin):

Sabin had family emrgencies. At the beginnig of the show, Ian cut a promo on Zack Gowen for "ruining the main event a month ago." So he said when Sabin couldn't make it, he booked Shelley. I was quite happy with this announcement. Shelley worked over William's shoulder the whole match. it is single-handedly the most creative and crisp targeting of a body part I have ever seen. Shelley was dead on. STIFF kicks to the shoulder, Missle Dropkicks, Tope rope knee Drops, tons of stretches, a Cattle Mutilation Keylock, Beautiful shit. Petey was just torn apart. He sold it so well. If this wasn't on the same show as Drag/Cannon, I think it would be very seriously talked about. Great Great match. Shelley is the man. All sorts of....goddamn its just sweet guys. I don't know what to say. They went twenty plus and it was a gorgeous display of wrestling.

Insanity over Pondo:

This was as mediocre as I thought it was going to be. Pondo sucks in non-tube matches. Insanity totally carried this one. They had three tables. The first spot was Pondo was on a table on the outside, and Insanity did a Over the top Dive splash thingy. Second was the sickest, and actually one of the cooler DM bumps I've ever seen. It was a Top Rope DDT from Pondo to Insanity, and he took it RIGHT on top of his head. The third was Insanity doing a Godsmack through the other table.

The crowd had NO CLUE who Insantiy was. I was the only one cheering for him. He kept looking at me and barking, so at least someone would pop for him. It was too bad. The crowd actually was hating on him for beating Pondo, though he made and saved the match.

Motherfuckers, Get this tape. I'll be up in the afternnon if you have more quesations. I apologize for this being so short, but I'm too sleepy to think straight.

A note on the "Fans Bring The Straps" match:

At the door, fans will be handed a raffle ticket. The sixteen (I do believe that was the number) fans who win the raffle will be instructed to sign a liability waiver before participating in the match on 8-21. Should be...fucking CRAZY.

Best match of 7/31: Danielson/Cannon, by far. Shelley/Williams was flawless, but it didn't hit me like Dragon/Cannon. Cannon continues to rise on my list of favorite wrestlers.

Worst match: The opening three way. Nothing was really clicking, Mark Wolf seemed out of place, and it was just a slow start to what would turn out to be a very good show.

Was the Sabu 3-way really sloppy and bad?

How would you rate Delirious vs. Styles and Sydal vs. Punk?

Can't wait to see this show...and the next Highland show looks great too. And THEN we have the TPI! :)

The Sabu 3-way was very sloppy, yes. The crowd was behind Sabu, but there was nothing about it that impressed me, except for Kid Kash's double underhook piledriver. I would've much rather seen Kash and Danny Daniels go at it than adding Sabu, but the addition of Sabu did add the crowd heat, I will admit that.

Delirious/Styles allowed for two things to happen:

1) Delirious to get over more as a cheating heel, albeit a pretty damn funny one.

2) Styles was able to get in his trademark moves.

The crowd was pretty hot for this match, but it was pretty basic, all things considered.

Sydal/Punk was, for the most part, Punk messing around with the smaller Sydal and basically just stretching him while Sydal tried to fight back with his high flying moves. It actually worked very well, I thought, and it was probably my third most favorite match of the night.

Cool, thanks. One more question - is Cannon's "Glimmering Warlock" a Shining Wizard?

Yes, the Glimmering Warlock is Cannon's name for the Shining Wizard.

Some random thoughts of mine from the July 31st IWA show (I'm lazy, so this is all you have to read from me):

- Jimmy Jacobs selling the spikes that he carries around for the "Berserker" gimmick at the gimmick table is awesome.

- Speaking of Jacobs, I didn't recognize him in the least bit for the first thirty seconds or so of his entrance. He got his hair cut short, was looking downward, and was wearing pajamas. With that being said, John Cusack f'n rules, and more gimmicks should be based around his characters in movies.

- Nate Webb was using BADD BLASTERS (confetti guns that Johnny B. Badd used to use) for his entrance, and I for one loved it. Then again, it's probably because he ended up dropping one of them right in front of me, which I then picked up and took home, being the klepto that I am.

- NO ONE saw the Steve Stone heel turn, or even his return, coming. There were people marking out for his return at first, until everyone saw that Stone was a nasty little man that hates Trik Davis a whole bunch. He beat the hell out of Trik Davis for a while before he got the LAMEST DISQUALIFICATION EVER for not pinning Trik after the modified Whiteout (Eight Second Ride). Ian then came out, as those two had one hell of a pull-apart brawl; quite the spectacle to see.

- Women's four-way was fun, with Tracy Brooks in Allison Danger's role as "kind of evil brunette who MsChif totally hates", as they kept fighting each other after tags. Mickie Knuckles busted out an insane tope suicida, and Daizee almost killed herself doing an equally insane moonsault plancha.

- Note to Highland fans: Delirious is a heel now, if you didn't hear. You can stop "Baaa"'ing at him now.

- Delirious/Styles was good, but almost disappointing, at least in my opinion. Coming in, I totally thought this match was going to be better than the amazing Styles/Sydal match from Simply the Best 5, because I personally think Delirious is better than Matt, and the heel/face factor would exist in this match. It was a little slower than some people would imagine, though I usually like slower-paced matches. But still, there was still some cool stuff in this match. AJ just about killed Delirious by dropping him from a gorilla press position gut-first on the ringpost late in the match. Kid Kash running in for the finish was a big surprise, but not all surprises are necessarily great. I can love Kash sometimes, but I wasn't in line to see him debut in IWA Mid-South. At least we know that Ian can book TNA's storylines better than TNA can.

- With the temperature difference between outside the building and inside, I almost expected a cloud to form and for it to start raining at the door.

- Nigel & Collyer/Bradley & Boz was ten times better than their Simply the Best match, and I personally really enjoyed that match. Bradley and Boz were awesome here, as just about everyone in that place seemed to buy that we were going to have new tag champs. Nigel and Boz had one exchange on the outside that was quite brutal and heated, involving tossing each other into chairs. In the end, Bradley clobbers Collyer with a clothesline, and that's all she wrote. I'm begging for this at next month's Highland show: B'n'B vs. Tank and Iceberg...that'd complete the already amazing-looking card for that show.

- Punk/Sydal was really quite good, with Punk working the leg like a demon in heat on Sydal's leg to prevent any flippy-flippy action after being outwrestled early on in the match. Sydal was tremendous in selling the knee as well. Good match, but a certain "Dragon" blew it out of the water later.

- The Sabu/Daniels/Kash three-way was...well, it was chaotic, but not necessarily in a good way. I usually don't like three-way matches anyway, since they just about don't make sense in concept or in action. Sabu either f'd up his tailbone or his leg when he didn't go through the table with his legdrop attempt. Let's just move on...

- Cannon/Danielson is MUST-FUCKING-SEE, period. Even with all of his great matches with Chris Hero, I honestly think that this is Arik Cannon's best match ever. It was so unreal, just watch it for yourselves. Dragon versus Hero is THE match I've been waiting for more than just about anything on the indies ever, so I'm SO f'n there.

- After taking an intermission to fix the ring (the same part that broke on the ring last month broke again when Dragon nailed a huge superplex late in his match), Alex Shelley and Petey Williams came out and had a hell of a match. It wasn't as good as Danielson/Cannon, but just barely. Shelley was SO freakin' great working the arm. Then again, it's Alex Shelley: does anyone expect any less? Shelley got the first fall with the Border City Stretch early, but Petey came back to get Fall Two with a Sharpshooter. No Canadian Destroyer though, as Shelley reversed it with a backdrop that Petey reversed with a sunset flip to retain his belt. This more than made up for last month.

- Pondo/Klein was a Pondo match: people stood around, bled, and bumped through stuff. It was late by the time this one started, and I wasn't necessarily looking forward to it. Toby Klein rules, but Pondo....yeah. Klein got the win, which rules, but Pondo challenges him to a Fan Participation Strap Match for next month. Jeff Lewis and Jacey North had one of these in Wildside a couple of months back, and I still don't think Lewis's back has turned back to its normal color.

Overall, it was a really good show. It started a little iffy, though fun, with the three-way, but the last two regular matches were TREMENDOUS, and well worth getting the tape for. Buy this one, along with last Friday's show (which I think will go down along with the April Lafayette show, as one of the unheralded great shows of the post-Clarksville era), and maybe get one of those swank Arik Cannon t-shirts while you're at it.

That's the best wrestling news I've heard in some time as American Dragon Vs. Chris Hero has been on the top of my list of dream matches for a while now.

Can't wait for that one...

Delirious is fucking nuts for taking that ringpost bump. I've never seen anyone take it before.

Cannon/AmDrag being awesome automatically means I'm buying the tape.

Yeah, I'm iffy on the 7/23 show, but I might have to buy it for Cannon vs. Rave and Petey vs. Hero. This show is a definite buy.

I also have several shows coming, including Simply the Best 5 (thanks PFL!), A Shot of Southern Comfort, One More Time, A Butcher Loose in Highland, and the KODTM 2004. I'll post reviews on ALL of these shows here as I watch them.

Almost forgot about that. Yes, that was a very brutal bump, and thinking back now, one of the few things that really stood out--at least to me--in that match with A.J.

This is going to be a great fall for IWA-MS. We've got the great looking 8/21 show coming up, then the TPI, and then the Anniversary show. Awesome.

That reminds me, is anybody planning on taking up the offer that Rotten talked about for the Meet 'N' Greet, exclusive IWA Anniversary t-shirt and first/second row seats to the anniversary show?

It's a tempting deal to accept. I'm sure plenty of IWA fans are already clamoring for those seats, so it'll be a hot ticket.
