Fox resurrects 'Family Guy' opposite Olympics

Fox is returning “Family Guy” much sooner than expected. The network, which ordered new episodes of the cult show following its strong performance on Cartoon Network, will air a marathon of old “Guy” episodes as counter-programming to NBC’s Olympic Games Aug. 18 and 25 from 8p.m. to 10 p.m. “Guy” will premiere new episodes sometime next year. Also scheduled for Fox mini- marathons during the Olympics are “The Simple Life,” “The Casino,” “Bernie Mac” and “Cops.” In other programming news, Fox Sports Net will relaunch “Fuel’s 54321 Weekly Update” Sept. 18 (the show will also air on Fuel). The former daily show is now a weekly covering extreme sports. And Spike is launching a new reality series called “The Club” about a Las Vegas dance club. It will premiere Oct. 12 at 10 p.m.

Read it here.

This is surprising. I wonder if the ratings for Family Guy will be any good. TBS hasn't had as much success with the show as Cartoon Network, so I wonder how Fox will do with this.

It's going against the Olympics, so there's no way it's going to get good ratings, especially if there aren't new episodes.

Wow Fox just loves putting Family guy in the WRONG timeslot to air episodes. I almost don't wanna say this but, I sorta hope Fox really screws up here and thinks the new episodes shouldn't air cause it didn't do good and then the new episodes get picked up by Cartoon Network for adult swim, I'd be a happy Scroby if that happen. As far as TBS goes, I didn't even know they were airing Family Guy episodes until I flipped by it a few weeks ago and got shocked they were on TBS.

Its not like Fox has any new stuff to throw up against the Olympics. All of their "OMG! IT'S NEW SHOWS IN THE SUMMER!" shows have flopped. Reruns of Family guy is better than 4th or 5th reruns of Method and Red and Meet Your New Mommy...

And I don't really think that the Olympics are going to be a big deal. They will be on time delay and spread across 9 channels. The US teams for the most part suck (Basketball, Baseball..) and there will probably be more focus on whether or not something blows up due to terrorism as opposed to half the actual events.

Well if TBS had kept them in the same damn timeslot for more than three days at a time then maybe it WOULD have been successful.

I swear TBS has no damn CLUE what they are doing.

He's right. Any humor it has on first viewing just does not last. That's the problem with guerilla humor.

The show has been destroyed beyond almost all hope by it being played SO FUCKING MUCH.

I still laugh constantly. Even during the women's retreat episode, which I've seen at least thirty times.

Same here

I'd rather watch my Family Guy DVDs ten times over than any of the Olympics

Same here. Maybe I'm just easily amused, but I can laugh if even I've seen the episodes.

I still laugh just as much when I watch the shows now, as I did when I first viewed them. There is no telling how many times I've watched the DVD sets now. I can put them in anytime, and enjoy them as much as ever.

I agree with all the above stuff. It's akin to watching the Simpsons reruns, and not being able to pull away from them as easily because you just enjoy them so much. The Simpsons became obsolete to me though, after Family Guy.

This will be a lot more entertaining to watch than baton twirling.

Well since fans ofFamily Guy bought the DVD sets, it is probably going to be average against the Olympics. I might toon in, because I still watch the reruns on TBS and Cartoon Network(adult swim) depends what is on

hey dont hate on fox, I actually like some of the new summer shows like Quintuplets (will poor andy richter ever get a succesful show) and meth and red, heck I even watched the simple life 2. funny how only the 3rd one I listed is the only one confirmed for another season.

The problem is TV shows typcially don't do well if they debut in the summer, as most people aren't used to that happening. and in the summertime, the youth are too busy having fun to watch tv (except for me apparently)

But I am just glad to see Family Guy will return, but I wonder who'll supply the voices for the other characters, I hope Seth Green returns as Chris. and Stewie better be the same guy heck even Lois and Meg need to be the same for the show to be perfectly good with all FG fans

I like Family Guy, but I also find it hideously overrated. I spend most of my time watching the show wanting to axe murder Lois, Meg, Chris, Stewie, and Brian. Most of the shows humor is just "out of nowhere" stuff, which when you have seen the episode before just isn't effective. I like Family Guy, I do, but it has tremendous faults.

A Quintuplet fan on the board. There is no God.

About Quintuplets, that show is BAD. Worst Fox show since the Pitts. Even Andy Richter can't come close to making it tolerable. Every time I see it I just want to strangle Ryan Pinkston and the dumbass brother....and the rebel daughter. Fuck I want to strangle all the kids on that show.

I actually find it to be the opposite. Since a lot of the jokes are completely random I can watch every episode over and over again since I can never remember which gags are in which episodes. And I think Stewie and Brian are the two best characters.
