the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Plus, now that they're out of it, you get the joy of E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES chants.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Heh, I love football, but it is ridiculous how much they cater to it. Anchor: Welcome to CSN Sportsnite. Let's go to the ballpark for 45 seconds worth of clips. ::run Phillies clips: Anchor: Tough one for the Phils. Now here is 28 minutes of fans cheering for Terrell Owens. strummer 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I've always heard the Phillies are a distant 4th in the pecking order in Philadelphia sports. I think it goes 1. Flyers 2. Eagles 3. 76ers 4 Phillies. Is this the deal?
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Eagles are far and away number one. There was actually talk (incredibly stupid talk mind you, but talk anyway) that people did not want the Flyers to win the cup this past year, because they wanted the Eagles to be the ones to break the drought. Flyers and Sixers swap 2 and 3 depending on who is hot. Phillies are 4th, but being the losingest major sports franchise of the last century will do that to you. This year was the Phillies big chance to overtake both the Flyers (perennial playoff chokers) and Sixers (rebuilding era), but all they have done is reinforce the bad atmosphere toward them. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I was in Philly last weekend and I couldn't believe how much coverage the Eagles got in the sports section. And it was only training camp. There was Eagles stuff all over the cty- but nothing Phillie related. Aren't the fans getting tired of the Eagles and their constant chokings in the NFC Championship Game? the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 The signings of Kearse and Owens gave the fans another glimmer. But if they do it again, they will have to shut down the Ben Franklin bridge due to all of the jumping.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Fifth loss of the last six games. Thome's day-to-day with a shoulder injury. This season is just about done. Well, at the very least, you won't have to wait until late September to have your playoff chances dashed. I'm hearing that the Pirates just released Randall Simon. Not surprising, since he's had a terrible season. Someone will probably pick him up and as bad as his season's been, perhaps the Cubs should pick him up just to have another bat on the bench. He was pretty big (no pun intended) for them last season and while it would be a big risk, since he's been so bad this year, they need another bat off the bench while Hollandsworth is on the DL. geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Wily Mo Pena at 22 is the best young player you never hear about. He nailed 2 more home runs tonight, giving him 21 in about 260 at bats, along with 56 RBI's. If he played the full season he would be a fourty home run 100 RBI guy, at the age of 22. The second home run went 476 feet, the second longest in GABP history. Dunns shot from earlier this week is number 1, and as a matter of fact, the reds brought in the foremost expert on long home runs and he said it was the longest home run hit in a game since 1976. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I always thought Phillies were #3 and bigger than the Sixers. I mean, they just got a new park, so they must be somewhat favored. I've known it to be Eagles then Flyers though. In a city like Chicago, where hockey has died like you cannot comprehend, it's refreshing to see an American city where the NHL isn't the distant fourth. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Oh and back on topic: COREY EFFING PATTERSON, he's really redeeming himself now! I'm happy. That indicates in visual form that I am happy.
treble 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I don't know why the Jays keep insisting on using Vinny Chulk as the set-up man. He's blown a 4 run lead in the 8th and didn't even get an out. This confirms my belief that David Bush is the unluckiest pitcher in baseball.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I do not care for this Cubs bullpen. At all. Jesus.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 I bet Todd Wellemeyer and many other Cub pitchers are better than that crotch-grabbing batter-hitting piece of crap that we keep sending out there.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Fuck Farnsworth. Bastard looked like he was about to cry and that's too bad. This game was HUGE for the Cubs, as the Dodgers are probably going to be an opponent for them in the postseason. Aside from yesterday and the first half of today, they've looked like shit against them. This bullpen is trash, too. They've continued to let games get out of reach or blow games for the Cubs all season. It's time to accept the fact that Farns ain't ever gonna be the closer they want. Cut your losses and get rid of the schmuck. Otherwise this team isn't going far in the postseason. The Cubs have absolutely been OWNED by the West this season. Aside from the Rockies, they've only EIGHT games against the West and today was the last day against the division. For a while it was looking like Nomar's damn double-clutch was going to be a huge factor in the game, but not so. Still a pretty costly move from him. And what's with Alou? This guy is seriously starting to cause more problems than anyone on the team. He's supposed to be one of the leaders and instead, he gets tossed from one of the biggest games the Cubs play this season. Over stupid shit, too. Ugh. I love this team, but the current incarnation is making me age early.

Guest GreatOne Report post Posted August 15, 2004 All the talk in baseball the next few days should be centered around the bigtime series coming up between............... The M's and the Royals!!!!!!!! Damn you Mariners for making me analyze my team's chances in their PRESEASON opener without Robinson and Hutch (not that I am but..............) Ah well if nothing else if the Indians end up winning the Central I can proudly say 'Yeah we took 4 of 7 from them BITCH!'
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 The A's are in serious jeopardy of losing a series at home to the Royals. What the hell is going on here? They have cupcake schedule for the remainder of August and they aren't taking advantage of it.
Guest GreatOne Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Jose Lopez picks up his second MLB RBI, a double off of Kevin Brown. Not bad. Randy Winn drives him in with a single of Quantrill. Edgar RBI single scores Ichiro, 4-3. Just please get one from the Yankees and at least go to KC with a 3-3 homestand (last place team hovering around -30 games of 500 against two first-place teams, not bad at all)
Guest GreatOne Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Please, bullpen, hold on to this 4-run lead so I can actually FEEL GOOD about the M's for a couple days, please?
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2004 Oh by the way, Moises Alou should realize that one of the things that makes it hard to play left field at Wrigley, or any ballpark, really, is telling the umpire to go fuck himself. It tends to get you further away from the area you need to cover, precisely because THE OFFICIALS GET MAD AND THROW YOU OUT AND THEN YOU CAN'T STAND THERE ANYMORE AND TOM GOODWIN HAS TO TRY AND FILL IN. Spiking the bat in a separate earlier incident isn't good either.
Guest GreatOne Report post Posted August 16, 2004 M's 7-3, WOOHOO!!!!!!! I can actually hold my head up after a 3-3 NYY/Min homestand Of course they'll go like 1-5 or 2-4 through KC/Det but...............
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 A three game sweep at the hands of the SF Giants. They have GOT to fire Bowa at this point.
