Guest Nanks Report post Posted August 13, 2004 A fair while back now I had a 'recommend me music' thread which turned me onto a couple of Type O Negative songs that I really, really like now after listening to them intermittently for quite some time. So keeping in mind the two songs I really like are Life Is Killing Me and Black No. 1 I'm curious to know if these are typical of their style and which of their albums I should get based on this. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 13, 2004 Type O is Type O. Half lifted Beatles, half lifted Sabbath, with more distortion, to a headbanger makeout theme. I love 'em. Slow Deep and Hard is their fastest, angriest album. Lot of punk influence there. It's worth a listen, but the best moments are on other cds. Everyone seems to like Bloody Kisses, which features Black No. 1 and Christian Women, which got more airplay than anything else they've done. I think it's pretty good, but inferior to World Coming Down. If you want a little of everything they've done, The Least Worst Of... is actually a really good mix of their material, and features cuts that didn't quite make it on WCD, even though I think all of them could've fit on there minus a couple tracks. October Rust is only useful if you're screwing a goth chick while it's playing. They also had a great idea in doing a fake live album, called Origin of the Feces. It features Slow Deep and Hard material and covers, and has a great tongue in cheek sense of humor about it. A sentimental favorite of mine.
Guest Nanks Report post Posted August 13, 2004 I had a feeling you'd be the one to help me out on this one, cheers mate. I think I'll get The Least Worst Of... and take it from there.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2004 Least Worst Of is pretty good, but the remixes don't do the originals justice. Honestly., you'd be best served to pick up World Coming Down. The whole album is killer especially "All Hallow's Eve."
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 14, 2004 I'll agree with that statement, only except "All Hallows Eve." That's actually the track I'd like to replace with 12 Black Rainbows or It's Never Enough.
converge241 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2004 Get Origin of the Feces I have all the Type O Stuff and have followed them for years and seen them live 14 Times Origin is the best sampling for anyone who might want to get into them I do not think Least Worst is the best representation my opinions on all the albums Slow Deep and Hard: tough to listen to , down a level (understandabel where its their first) but pretty much what Agent sez Origin of the Feces: a fake live album, it has "the sound" for the 1st time..killer covers of Hey Joe (altered into Hey Peter) and a sick cover of Paranoid along with more intense versions of stuff from SD&H Bloody Kisses: a truly great album..the original that is ...NOT the relrelease that does not have "Kill all the White People" or "We Hate Everyone" or whatever but does have a song that the record company made them add to cash in on Black and Xian Woman..this might be my fav and would be the second one I would recomend to a newbie October Rust: a mistep to be sure..it has some moments but it just kind of wanders around and goes nowhere..the goth album , again along with Agent's words World Coming Down: major improvement over October with some great ideas and a nice Beatles medley to close off..WHite Slavery is one of their most underated songs..and the snipets of the band meeting their demises are the best album filler "skits" since Life of Agony's River Runs Red "days of the week"..still with all the good it fell a little short when this dropped in 99 but that was made up for by.. Life Is Killing Me: just awesome stuff all around here basically I should have just said "I agree with Agent" who has always been pretty wise about these things here..I only disagreed with the assesment of Least Worst but collections are always a varied opinion .. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2004 I like October Rust...okay, maybe just because of "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," but hey!
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted August 21, 2004 Didn't Agent do a full review of a Type O album? I think I faintly recall reading one and being fairly entertained if I remember correctly.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 21, 2004 Yeah I did. Life is killing me. Their cover of Paranoid is terrible, I think. The cover of "Black Sabbath" from Satan's perspective is pretty neat though, and that's on Least Worst Of. All of their albums are represented pretty equally here, too. Origin of the Feces, while cool as hell, is only covers and tracks off the first album, so I wouldn't recommend it as a starter.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 I like October Rust...okay, maybe just because of "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," but hey! I like October Rust as well. There are some good tracks on that album. "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" is great, but "Be My Druidess" is ownage. At least I think so.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 22, 2004 I still contend it's only good while screwing certain girls. I did lose my virginity to that album, though, so it's got a special spot in my heart, but it's not one I can sit down and listen to very often.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 I remember loving October Rust. 'Wolf Moon' was about the menstrual cycle, wasn't it? I like that.
