I'm not bitching, I'm just asking a simple question. I'm only a fan of the old style "slasher" films, so I'm just wondering who the character is and how they'd introduce him into the story.

, so I'm just wondering who the character is and how they'd introduce him into the story.

Then go watch the movies instead of saying crap like "Chalk me up as someone who couldn't care less about who the fuck ASH (Ketchum) or what movie Evil Dead is.".

Considering how many in the horror realm hate Freddy and Jason in the later years and were not too high on Freddy vs Jason, they need someone who the horror fans basically idolize and that would be Bruce Campbell aka Ash.

You want the story to make less sense, then you'd include Michael Myers. With Ash, they could find a way.

Oh and yes, it would draw. Big time.

Freddy and Jason get the mainstream appeal but Ash is the horror fan icon and Campbell is considered by many critics to be a damn fine actor. And acting was the one thing Freddy vs Jason definately did not have.

Ash would slice and dice that Pokemon kid and say something totally awesome when he was done.

And it would draw.

I'm saying it wouldn't draw.

Can somebody find the gross for FvJ? And then factor in that more horror fans are into Ash than either Jason or Freddy, especially with the newfound popularity of Raimi and the ED trilogy?

I do know FvJ topped the box office its first week, and didn't drop out of the top 10 for a while. So saying F/J/A wouldn't draw when FvJ did is kinda absurd...

Corey, FvJ did fucking great for a horror film of it's kind. It pulled in $82,622,655 domestic, and only cost $55Mil for production/marketing. Hell, it brought in $36,428,066 it's first weekend. Worldwide, it brought in $114,326,122.

If they bring on the sequel, and include ASH of all people in it, of course it'll draw. Anyone who says otherwise just doesn't know what they are talkign about, period.

Just to add to that note, IIRC, FvJ opened somewhere around August 10th and August 20th last year.

I wanna say the 19th, but I honestly don't remember good enough.

Ok.

1.I though FvJ was gonna be whack-juice but it turned out excellent.I'm not saying it will be trash or that i wouldn't see it.

2.The idea just seems lame to me,there will be more people saying to themselves"Who the fuck is that?" then people nutting themselves.

Fact:There are more people who don't know who Ash is then do.I'd say like 1/10 people might barley recognize the face from "Xena"

The only way people will buy it if Ash's character is introduced in a possible spin-off sorta way instead of a "You're supposed to know who this jabroni is" kind of way, feel me?

They would have to market Ash as a "next-new horror-guy" instead of a classic.Obviousluy we know better but i beleive most kids will actually dig him and demand another ED movie.

Starevenger:ED is about Ash and his gf getting stuck in a log-cabin with the Necronomin(The Book of the Dead) they find it start reading from it and all hell breaks loose...Literally.

Part one is goodbut not for your typicl hack and slash fans it makes sense and has a plot and very gruesome deaths and costumes for the early 80's.,2 is fucikng classic and the real Ash lets loose there.classic,AOD isn't even a horror flick to me.

I say rent ED2.

EDII is somewhere between a remake and a sequel to the first ED. Most of the same plot points occur in EDII that occur in ED, but many are altered, some stuff is axed, and plenty of new stuff is spliced in.

While ED was more of a serious, generic hack-and-slash horror film, ED has plenty of black comedy mixed in.

It's hard for me to really get much of a kick out of the first ED without commentary, but it's interesting on it's own level as a very well-made flick for such little money, and there are a lot of tributes/twists of horror movie conventions.

I figured Ash could be having the Freddy dreams. He ventures along to Elm Street to get to the source. runs into and "Kills" Jason along the way, who's not dead but follows at a distance. And when he gets there they could have their showdown

Freddy: "I've been waiting for you."

Then Jason shows up

Freddy: "Aw shit."

Or something like that

I wouldn't really consider Evil Dead II to be a remake. As far as I know, the film makers couldn't get the rights to show footage from the original, so they had to recreate the scenes they needed. Basically, the "remake" portion of ED II is supposed to be a recap of the events from the first film.

I've always viewed it as a remake myself. If you view it as a direct sequel, some problems arise. After all, the Necronomicon was destroyed in the first film but was essential to the second.

I'm pretty sure that they say on the commentary that it's not a remake, and that they did indeed just have to re-shoot parts of ED since they couldn't use the footage for the sequel.

I'm not disputing that. All I'm saying is that there are a few problems if you consider it a direct sequel, the Necronomicon being one of them.

In any case, ED II is probably my favorite movie in the trilogy. It's the perfect blend of horror, action, and humor.

There's a certain spot where the sequel actually starts and if you cut off the recap scenes ED and EDII will play as one movie. I forget the spot, but I'd like to take my DVDs and record it like that.

I was really against Freddy vs Jason vs Ash when I first heard about it, but then I warmed up to the idea because it would work. It would be successful, you got Freddy the most mainstream horror character bringing in several people, you have Jason who is almost where Freddy is, and he will bring in shit loads of people, and you got Ash and he has more fanboys than any Horror Icon I know of. Then I read the review of the treatment script and it just sounded like it all really meshed well. I just hope they don't name it Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. They should either name it what the poster says in Downhomes sig or Freddy vs Jason 2: The Evil Dead.

Not to sound even MORE stupid, but what IS a fanboy?

Someone who knows enough about one single subject that they probably should get outside more.

Re: my comments that FJA "wouldn't draw", I was talking about the inclusion of Campbell, not necessarily the movie. It is, to take a wrestling phrase, overbooking the feud. Everyone here is talking about what an icon this guy is to horror fans, but nobody seems to realize that FvJ aspires to be more than just another horror film. This is why it gets a bigger budget for production and advertising than, say, Jason X. It automatically smells like money when you consider that everybody from Roger Ebert to my Dad knows who both guys are.

Add that in the all-important youth market, which is pretty goddamn important to a slasher flick, almost nobody knows about cult horror hits from the era when they were children.

Let's use sci-fi for an example: This is like having a "Star Wars vs Star Trek" movie and then following it up with "Star Wars vs Star Trek vs Farscape." Yeah, the sci-fi fans will get it, there's a lot that like that universe, but will anyone else? Bablyon 5, at least, would have name recognition with anyone who's flipped through the program listings in the last ten years. And that's stretching it.

Insert your favorite other horror villain here (someone mentioned Myers from Halloween) in place of B5 and you get the right idea.

I'm not exactly stone deaf when it comes to pop culture, and if I don't know who the hell this character is, I don't have much hope for others in their early 20s and earlier either.

I just wonder about the tone here. The Evil Dead movies don't seem anything like either the campy slash em ups of the Friday series, or the more serious minded (at least in better installments) Nightmare series.

What can they do here? Have Freddy invade Ash's dreams and make him think his other hand is trying to kill him? Actually that might be cool.

Well the ED series has been both serious and campy, so Ash can do whatever they want him to do.

I don't see this happening.

People like me, who aren't into cult movies, don't know what in the hell Evil Dead is. I only know about it because so many other fanboy types online that I hang out with like to reference it like mad.

Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, however, are known by every American over 12+.

I think that's the ONE thing that could hold this back from being a megahit like FvsJ was; most people haven't seen Evil Dead or know what Bruce Campbell looks like.
