LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 BACKYARD KINGS WRESTLING CONTEST BEGINS! WINNERS WILL SEE THEIR MATCHES ON WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTED HOME VIDEO! GRAND PRIZE WINS TRIP TO LOS ANGELES TO LOS ANGELES AND MATCH WITH XPW'S SUPREME! The search for the next big stars of backyard wrestling has begun. California based Rockssteady, Inc. has put together a contest allowing backyard wrestlers to gain some respect for what they do. "Backyard wrestling has proven itself to be a training ground for future wrestling stars," Rockssteady President, Rick Mandell, said, "From Mic Foley to Jeff Hardy, wrestling fans around the world have seen the footage. Another company, Backyard Wrestling, Inc. gave the backyard movement its first major exposure with its BWF wrestling series, but we are going to pick up where they left off." The Backyard Kings contest is open to backyarders worldwide through the website BackyardKings.com. Wrestlers are encouraged to send in their videotapes (VHS will not be returned, digital tapes like mind's will be returned if the entrant provides a padded self-addressed stamped envelope) of backyard matches from August 2003 through July 2004. The producers will select the best matches and the winners will appear on an internationally distributed home video. Wrestlers whose footage makes it to the home video will win 10 copies of both the VHS and DVD on which they appear. But, then the contest really begins. When the video is released, voting will begin on the Backyard Kings website. Fans from around the world will be able to vote for their favorite wrestler on the tape. In order to insure the votes are tabulated fairly, only one vote per IP address will be registered. The two wrestlers who receive the most votes will win great prizes, but more importantly, move on to the King of the Backyard Tournament. Once winners have been chosen from five editions of Backyard Kings, the single-elimination King of the Backyard Tournament will begin. Consisting of both singles and three-way matches, the tournament will take place across the United States. The two tournament finalists will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles where they will meet face-to-face on the ultimate backyard wrestling battleground created specially for the tournament final. The winner of the tournament will receive the first Backyard Kings World Championship Belt (made by the same maker of the WWF, WCW, ECW, and XPW championship belts) and get their first pro match, against XPW's Supreme, in front of a live audience in Los Angeles! The contest begins TODAY and wrestlers who want to be considered for the very first Backyard Kings release must have their footage submitted by August 31, 2004. Entries for the remaining four volumes will be accepted until December 31, 2004. All entries MUST be accompanied by forms, which are available at BackyardKings.com. Any submissions not accompanied by the entry form and required paperwork will be automatically disqualified. Do you have what it takes to prove you are a BACKYARD KING? Log on to www.BackyardKings.com today and find out!
Slickster 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 A nationwide tournament? 10 copies for everyone on the DVDs? I am skeptical that those things will come together.
Guest SoCalTF Report post Posted August 22, 2004 This sounds like the stupidest contest ever. Not only do you get to be involved in killing yourself, but the one who doesn't end up dying gets to get his first "professional" match against "professional" wrestler Supreme. This is setting wrestling back to where any Joe Schmoe can be a wrestler but now they can be one without getting trained. Fuck these douchebags. I'm going to have to go to wrestling school and train my ass off for one fucking year, learn the ins and outs, make about 5 bucks wrestling in front of 50 people, bust my balls, and pay my dues to even get reconized yet some idiot can pretty much fuck up their lives, get major companys to back them and they get to be on national DVDs without having to pay their dues to be a wrestler. I seriously hope these douchebags break their necks for disgracing PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING.

LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 It's funny how they didn't even spell Mick Foley's name right. With all due respect, Supreme has been a pro wrestler for 9 years going on 10, so he certainly knows quite a bit, having worked with Sabu, Tanaka, Sandman, etc., but the idea of a BACKYARD WRESTLING *CONTEST* is just...weird. Madman Pondo would've been a better choice, but he doesn't live in Cali so I guess that's why they picked Supreme. But hey, who knows - maybe we'll see the next deathmatch sensation. (I'm not holding my breath, LOL.)
Slickster 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 This is a bad idea for several reasons. 1. I assume that this company is looking for KOTDM-style bouts, not actual backyard wrestling (where people actually try to WRESTLE). There is a significant difference, though the two styles are both lumped together as 'backyard wrestling.' This contest (and this company) are perpetuating the stereotype of backyard wrestling as bloodsport, not as spectacle. 2. Also, a lot of backyard wrestlers don't wrestle in the hopes of going pro; they do it for fun. Most backyard wrestlers who don't have a pro-quality ring know they have little chance of making it to the big time. And I don't think anyone thinks that wrestling Supreme in ONE MATCH an LA indy is 'the big time.' 3. Also, this 'tournament' will supposedly happen after SIX BYK tapes have been made, so that pushes it back to late '05/early '06 at the EARLIEST.
Guest SoCalTF Report post Posted August 23, 2004 Supreme has been a pro wrestler for 9 years going on 10, so he certainly knows quite a bit Too bad he's the worst "wrestler" ever to step foot in a ring.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 Now who's getting sued to high hell if one of these untrained shits breaks his neck trying to outdo the other guys? You don't see doctors hosting a backyard surgery event where people who don't know what they're doing cut up on patiants. But yet it's a good idea to put fake wrestlers in this situation. I hope this ends badly
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 And if Supreme was any kind of legit "WRESTLER" there would be no way he would go along with this. He has no respect for the actual act of wrestling.
LucharesuFan619 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 And if Supreme was any kind of legit "WRESTLER" there would be no way he would go along with this. He has no respect for the actual act of wrestling. Agreed. No argument there. That's what's so dumb - he's degrading himself more than he already has. But at the same time, let's not forget that talented guys like J-Pro and Sonjay are in a backyard game. So there is SOME talent in backyard wrestling, although quite little. Guest SoCalTF Report post Posted August 23, 2004 A video game is different from wrestling a backyarder. There's no talent in yard tard "wrestling".
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 A nationwide tournament? 10 copies for everyone on the DVDs? I am skeptical that those things will come together. The ten copies isn't hard to believe. Costs about or less than $1 to put together a DVD/VHS, and when you consider how much money they'll make off the videos, it's certainly dooable. They're just ASKING for a lawsuit, though.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 A...tournament? As in...these yardtards...actually trying to fucking kill each other? ...the shit?!
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted August 23, 2004 This has to be one of the worst idea's I've ever heard. Also, Luchareu, I've seen Supreme many times.......and calling him a "wrestler" is a far stretch.
Slickster 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 If you want to see QUALITY backyard wrestling (that is actual WRESTLING), then go here. This tournament casts the whole backyard wrestling community in a bad light.

From EwA's webmaster: "The server we were using to host the site shut down, and our domain name was locked, so after a lot of hard work we finally have everything set up to bring the website back up very shortly. EwA will be back with Resurgence very soon, stay tuned."
